Her right hand started to move up towards one box, but then it dropped and she sighed again wishing Rory had just come along. Everything was easier with Rory, her head was a calculator and she could do the whole weight/price math in seconds and pick the best stuff to buy. "Can I help... Lorelai?" She turned, smiling up at Dean as he ran his hands through his hair nervously. "Ah, you." "Yes, me," he grinned sheepishly. "Can I help you?" "I don't know, can ya?" She wanted to laugh at the expression on his face, like he didn't know what to say. It was weird that after all this time, he could still hold that expression around her, though she figured that after all that had happened in the last year, it was expected. He shrugged his shoulders, "What are you looking for?" She raised an eyebrow and pointed at the shelf quickly. "Well, there you have it." "Yes, there I have it, only there are three brands. Three brands set at three different prices and each varies in weight, color and size." Dean nodded, "I see the dilemma." "It's insane!" Lorelai scoffed. "How do they expect the American public to make a definitive choice on anything!" "Very carefully," Dean said slowly. Lorelai shook her head, "Yes, but while on this glorious Sunday where I have nothing better to do, I have time to stand here and weigh my options, but on any other given day, or even moment, I don't have the luxury of time, thus quickening my decision leading to the possibility of a hastened purchase where I'm left not only unsatisfied, but unhappy as well." Dean grinned, "It's a good thing you're not pressed for time right now." "Isn't it?" "Yes." "So, you're good in school right?" He thought a moment, confused by the question and when she prompted for an answer, he said, "Uh, yeah." Lorelai lowered her head and asked seriously, "Is that your final answer?" He nodded, starting to chuckle, "Yeah, I'm good at school." "Ok, so, normally Rory would be standing by my side going, 'Mom, are you insane, don't buy the one with the monkey on it, it's more expensive than the plain brown boxed one!' and I nod my head vigorously and get the plain boxed one. The snag is Rory's at Chilton attending some completely unnecessary weekend study session which is just wrong. So I don't know what to do." "Get the plain boxed one?" She turned to look at him quickly. "Is that a question, or a statement?" He threw his hands up. "I don't see the problem." Lorelai pointed at the boxes. "Well the first problem would be there's the monkey brand, the plain box and this new one, we'll call it the Boy George brand because it's got this freakishly colorful cartoon man who looks a little on the feathery side. So, price per Oz, which is the best buy?" Dean leaned slightly to study the three boxes. "Oh, Rory is So much faster at this." He smiled, looking back at her, "You want my help or not?" She gave him a surprised face, and prompted him to continue. "Take your time." After another moment he stood straighter. "Plain's still best value." "Better than the monkey and Boy George?" He nodded again. Lorelai smiled, taking a box of the plain brand. "Thanks so much for your help." Dean shrugged, "Not a problem." "Points off for the delay though," she pointed a finger at him, narrowing her eyes, but her grin was apparent and he laughed. "I'll try to be quicker next time." "Good!" She gave a nod of her head and turned on her heel towards the cash register leaving Dean shaking his head in the aisle. ********** See, very short. :) Hope you had fun!
