"Coffee, Please" By: Erin (SilverCharm4@aol.com) Rated: PG Summary: Lorelai hurts her back, and Luke helps her out. Pairing: L/L Note: This is the first time I have ever written any type of fan fiction, so be nice. Sorry if its not that good. Feedback would be good. I want to improve my writing, and I want to know what you thought of the story. Happy reading. :) "Luke!" Lorelai whined. She was standing outside his diner, looking in the window with her best begging face. "Come on, I need coffee!" Luke looked at her through the window. How could he say no to her? Even though he always bugged her, and teased her, he loved her. Luke slowly walked over to the door and unlocked it. Lorelai jumped in the door. "Brrrr. It's cold out there. You were gonna leave me out there to freeze to death, weren't you?" Luke just grunted at her. "Coffee please" Lorelai grinned. "Why, may I ask, do you need to come down here at 10:00 at night, when you have a perfectly useful coffee machine at your OWN house?" He looked at her, waiting for an answer. "Well, for your information, my coffee maker has been abducted by aliens, and I can't live without my coffee, so I came here." She joked. "Oh I see." Luke muttered. "Come on Lukey, you know you want to give me coffee!" She sat down on her stool at the counter. "Lorelai, it's late. It's time for you to sleep. You don't need any more caffeine." "Oh, like one more cup is gonna make any difference?" Luke was behind the counter washing the floor, blocking the coffee. Otherwise, Lorelai would already be back there getting it herself. To her joy, Luke moved back into the kitchen to put away the mop. She got up quickly and ran behind the counter. "Lorelai! Get out of there. And be careful, the floor is wet." But it was too late. She already had her coffee poured in a cup on the counter, and when she went to sit back down, she slipped on the wet floor, landing hard on the ground. "Lorelai!" Luke yelled concerned. "You okay." He was on his way over to her. "Yea, I'm perfectly fine. Just a little wet." She put her hand up on the counter to pull herself up, sending a wave of pain through her back. "Okay, maybe not." She began to fall back down, but Luke was there to catch her. "Come on, lets sit you down." He said, while helping her over to one of the booths. "What hurts?" He asked, concerned. "My back, again." She whined. "Again?" "Yeah, there was a whole incident with a mannequin and..." She winced. "Ooow. Evil back! Do I really need it?" "Yes, I think so. See what this awful coffee addiction has done to you?" "Yeah, yeah. I'm sure it's all the coffee's fault!" "Okay, well, we need to get you home. Do you have your car?" "No, I walked." She frowned. "What about your truck?" "It's being fixed." "Again? You really need a new form of transportation. One that things aren't going to fall off of if you attempt to drive it." "Okay, fine. If it will make you happy, I'll buy a new truck." He said, knowing that if it would please her, he'd do it. But he knew he could never afford a new car. "All right, then I guess I'll take you upstairs." Lorelai just made a small noise, because the pain was back, and it hurt too much for her to reply. Luke helped her to her feet and slowly over to the stairs. They stepped up onto the first stair and Lorelai yelled out in pain. "Yeah, that hurts!" She said. "All right, there's no way you can walk up these stairs." He replied. "I'll have to carry you." He said uncomfortably. "No, Luke, you can't carry me all the way up the stairs." But she knew perfectly well that he was capable of getting up the stairs without a problem. "Yes I can. So, come on. Let's just get you up there." "Fine." She agreed, reluctantly. Luke picked her up, and she put her arms around his neck. Luke was tense and he was nervous being so close to her. Lorelai was still in pain, but she felt safe in his strong arms. They reached his door, and he opened it quickly. He made his way over to the couch, and placed her down on it carefully. She looked up at him and smiled, sending chills down his spine. Her smile always gave him goose bumps. "Can I get you something?" He asked. "Umm...." She thought, "coffee?" "You're crazy." He said while walking over to the kitchen. He made the coffee, and brought it back to her in a big mug. "Thank you Lukey." She smiled again. This time he smiled back. "You're welcome." He said, still smiling. "Hey, I have some medicine I got when I hurt my back playing baseball a couple years ago. You can have some if you want." "Okay, I guess. Think it will help?" She replied. "Well, it worked really good for me, but it makes you drowsy for a little while." "I'll try anything." She groaned as more pain shot up her back. Luke walked away and came back a minute later with the medicine. He handed it to Lorelai. She took one pill with her last sip of coffee. "Do you want to call Rory? She can come get you." Luke asked. "She's staying over Lane's house tonight." "That crazy lady actually let Rory stay overnight there?" "Yeah, well, Lane agreed to go out with another future Korean doctor so that Rory could stay over for one night, but I was pretty surprised too." "Oh" "I can call her there, and she can come get me. I'm sure she won't mind." "It's almost 11:00. Will they really still be awake?" "Oh, geez, it's that late?" "Yep" he pointed to the clock up on the wall. "Why don't you just sleep here tonight? Your back will probably be better in the morning, and you can walk home." "Oh, Luke, I couldn't stay here. I don't want to be any trouble. I'll just call Rory." "It's no trouble, really." He said. Lorelai looked uncomfortable thinking about the idea of staying the night at Luke's. "Lorelai. We're not 12. It's okay for you to stay here one night." He said, seeing the worry in her eyes. "I know, but..." "You're staying here, and that's final." He cut her off, "It will be much easier on you if you just stay put rather than try to get home. You can call Rory in the morning" " Okay." She finally agreed. "I guess I'll just try to get some sleep." She laid down on the coach, causing more pain in her back. She tried to push it away, but Luke could see from the look on her face that she was uncomfortable. "Why don't you sleep in the bed? It will be much more comfortable than this old couch." Luke suggested. "Um.." She started to protest, but decided against it. If that's what Luke wanted, that's what would happen. Anyway, she was too weak to argue. So she just said "Only if its okay with you." "Yea, it's fine. I'll sleep on the couch. No problem." He replied. "Here, let me help you." He held out his hand and she took it. He put his arm around her back, and began to walk toward the bedroom. Luke sat her down on the bed, and she carefully crawled under the covers. She felt so strange, and Luke looked a little uncomfortable too. She just gave him a little smile and put her head on the pillow. The medicine was beginning to kick in, and she was starting to get drowsy. "You need anything else?" He asked her. "Some water would be good." Luke turned around and walked to the kitchen. He couldn't remember her ever drinking water. Only coffee, and more coffee. He grabbed a glass out of the cupboard and filled it with water and ice. He stood at the counter for a minute, thinking about the situation. He never imagined anything like this happening. He grinned, thinking of her, and how much he wished she felt the same way about him as he felt for her. As much as he wished it, he couldn't make it come true. He grabbed to glass and walked back to the bedroom. But, when he got there, Lorelai was already fast asleep. He set the glass down on the table by the bed, and stood above her, watching her sleep. She looked so peaceful, even when she was in pain she looked beautiful. He reached out his hand and brushed some hair out of her eyes. He bent down and kissed her gently on the forehead. Luckily for him, she didn't wake up. *What an awkward situation that would be.* He thought. "Goodnight Lorelai." He said, quietly. He turned away, turning out the light before he left. He grabbed some blankets and laid down on the couch. It creaked under his weight. *Darn thing's a piece of junk.* He thought. He closed his eyes, and soon fell asleep, thinking of Lorelai. ------------------------------------ Luke woke up early the next morning to open up the diner. He changed his clothes, which he had not changed out of the night before, and walked into the bedroom before going downstairs. He looked at the sleeping figure in his bed and smiled to himself. He walked down the stairs and began to open up the diner. A little while later, the bell above the door jingled and Rory walked in. "Hey Luke." Rory greeted him. "Hey Rory." He replied. "What are you doing here?" "Oh, well, I just ate at Lane's, and umm, well that can't really be considered an actual meal, so..." Rory told him. "Oh. Coffee?" Luke asked her. "Yes, please." Rory said. "Hey Luke, have you seen my mom this morning? I stopped by the house before I came here, and she wasn't there. I figured she was here, but, I guess she's not." "Oh, yea, she's upstairs." Luke said. "What's she doing upstairs?" Rory questioned. "Sleeping." Luke said without thinking. After he spoke, he realized how bad that could sound to Rory. "What?" Rory looked at him, a little shocked, and confused. "Oh, no...umm..." Luke fumbled on the words. "She was here last night while I was closing, and she slipped on the wet floor and hurt her back. So I took her upstairs and she slept there." "Oh, geez. Is she okay?" Rory looked concerned. "Yea. I think she'll be fine. I gave her some medicine, and it should be okay when she wakes up." He reassured her. "Why don't I go see if she's up yet" "Okay." Luke yelled back to Jim, telling him he'd be right back. He ran up the stairs and opened the door to his apartment, just as Lorelai was walking out of Luke's bedroom. "Oh, hey." She said, smiling. "Good morning." Luke greeted her, "How's your back?" "Oh, it's much better. But it would be better if I had some coffee..." "You never give up, do you?" He smiled. "Rory's downstairs waiting for you." "Oh, came for some real breakfast?" "Yep." He told her as he walked toward the door. Before he could leave, Lorelai grabbed his arm and pulled him around so he was facing her. "Thanks for everything Luke. It means a lot to me." She smiled genuinely. Luke stared into her eyes with his intense gaze. She looked back at him, trying to figure out what he was thinking, with no luck. Instead of responding, Luke leaned in and kissed Lorelai lightly. She was surprised, but she didn't pull away, and she kissed him back. He finally pulled away from her, and they stared into each others eyes for a minute after before Luke spoke "Your welcome Lorelai." She smiled her beautiful smile again and they turned and walked down the stairs into the diner. Jim has already brought Rory some coffee and food, and she was almost done. "Hey mom!" Rory yelled to her mom before running up to her and giving her a hug. "How are you?" Some of the other customers stared at Lorelai strangely, wondering why she had just come down from Luke's apartment. No doubt there would be tons of rumors about them flying around Stars Hollow. "I'm great. Much better." She smiled at her daughter. Luke had already gone behind the counter to pour Lorelai some coffee. She turned to look at him for a minute before he handed her the cup. She drank it quickly while Rory finished eating. She felt awkward after what had just happened, but inside she was incredibly happy. Rory looked at her mother, who smiling without even knowing it, while staring off into space. "Mom, you okay?" Rory asked. "Yea. Fine. Why?" Lorelai questioned. "You're just staring at the wall. And you're smiling." Luke looked over his shoulder back at Lorelai. "I guess I'm just happy today." Lorelai responded, and she looked up at Luke, indicating that she was talking about him. "Okay. Well, I'm done. You ready to go?" Rory asked. "Yep. See you later Luke."Lorelai said before getting up to leave with her daughter. "Yep. Bye Lorelai." He smiled as he watched her walk out the door. Outside, Rory looked at Lorelai, who was still smiling. "Okay. What the heck happened up there?" She waited for an answer anxiously. "Nothing." Lorelai said rather unconvincingly. "Mom." Rory said, knowing her mother was lying to her. "You can't lie to me." "Okay, okay..." She couldn't quite find the words. "He kissed me." She smiled. "What. Oh my god!" Rory exclaimed. "Was it a good kiss?" "Rory!" Lorelai yelled. "Yes." "So, are you guys going to get together now?" "I don't know." "Do you want to?" "I don't know." She said. "Do you want us to?" "I think you and Luke would be really happy together." "Yea?" "Yea." "Well. Then I guess I do." Lorelai smiled widely as the two girls walked down the street. ~*~THE END~*~
