Perhaps you are wondering why my Yahoo name is "gillusion." This is short for "Grand Illusion," which is a song by the rock group Styx on the album of the same name. Illustrated above is the cover art for the album.
I chose to associate myself with this song for two reasons. First, Styx remains my favorite band and I am proud to associate myself with music of their calibre! Second, the song Grand Illusion, is about how we should stop letting the media and our friends dictate our standards and start thinking for ourselves. In fact, I intend to fill this site with content relating to thining for one's self, particularly in the "Essays" department.
For those interested, here are the lyrics to Grand Illusion:
Welcome to the Grand Illusion! Come in and see what's happenin'! Pay the price, get your tickets for the show! The stage is set, the band starts playing. Suddenly, your heart is pounding, Wishing secretly you were a star!
Don't be fooled by the radio, the TV or the magazines. They'll show you photographs of how your life should be, But they're just someone else's fantasies.
So if you think your life is complete confusion 'Cause you never win the game, Just remember that it's a Grand Illusion, And deep inside we're all the same! All the same!
So if you think your life is complete confusion 'Cause your neighbor's got it made,, Just remember that it's a Grand Illusion, And deep inside we're all the same! All the same!
The die is cast, there's competition! Join us in our blind ambition! Get yourself a brand new motor car! SOmeday soon, we'll stop to ponder What on earth, whose spell we're under. We make the grade and still we wonder Who the hell we are! -Lyrics by Dennis DeYoung |
