1843                  Katherine McLean married ROBERT GILLESPIE. (Note: Katherine McLean is listed with family of Hugh McLean of Kilmenan, Scotland, location West lot 5, con 3, North Sherbrooke Twp 1821, accompanied by wife Mary McDonald and five children. This family later went to Wingham, Ontario)

THE JOHNSTOWN DISTRICT was created in 1800, and marriage returns for the counties of Grenville and Leeds had to be returned to the Clerk of the Peace in the town of Brockville. Carleton County was also part of the Johnston District until 1831, when it became part of the Bathurst District. The Johnston District was abolished in 1849. The register begins in 1801 with a few affidavits dating back to 1799.
