| April 12, 1912 The ship, Titanic, left Southampton, England on its maiden voyage to New York, but was hit by an iceberg and went to the bottom of the ocean with most of its 1500 passengers. William Henry Gillespie, age 34, a clerk and second class passenger, from Laois, Ireland en route British Columbia drowned. Vera Gillespie (1894-1973), age 17 from Calgary, Alberta and her husband Albert Dirk were rescued. |
