Twisted Fate

Mrs. Carter was there, looking over her son, and wondered what had happened. An ugly angry bruise smarted his left temple, and the IV needle was bruising his arm.
Nick refused to acknowledge her, keeping his gaze trained on the brownish stain on the part of the ceiling above his head.
The door opened, and he ignored it. "We're allowed to see him now."
The voice of his friend and band-mate didn't lure him out of his trance, and it didn't take long for everyone to get in a fuss to go see Brian, but he held back. He wanted to go last, make sure everyone else got to see him. He just wasn't sure Brian would be willing to see him now. Or possibly ever again.
His tongue felt swollen again in a dry mouth. Groaning, he shifted his body stiff from staying in one position for so long. Muscles protested the movement, but he continued to roll over on his side, ignoring the steady throbbing on the left side of his head.
Closing his eyes he sighed softly, and tried to straighten his thoughts once more. His mind disobeyed and reviewed the accident once more.
Scenes flashed more rapidly then they had all those times before, and he felt himself growing dizzy again. His breath sped up, and he could feel his heart pounding loudly in his chest.
The door swung open hastily, and a nurse rushed in. It took a split second to get by his bed, and push him over on his back.
Nick felt the confusion enveloping his body and blanketing his mind. His eyes moved around the room wildly, the nurse was touching pressing a hand against his forehead, another was prodding his eyes with its fingers and shining a light in them.
Pain started seeping in, as if slowly infecting his body, eating just one part at a time. Then, all of a sudden, he felt at ease. His body relaxed, and his heart slowed down. He was exhausted now and was just closing his eyes when he saw the nurse pull a syringe away from his arm.
A bitter smile twisted his lips slightly before he gave in completely to the darkness and fell asleep.
