"Mom, I swear to you, I don't know who that lady was!" AJ argued heatedly over the phone. "No! I don't have any kids!"
He waited and listened to her, "Mom! I would know if I had kids. I would know their names and their birthdays!"
He sighed in resignation, then he blushed darkly. "Mom! Yes, I use condoms!" The flush darkened, "I'm going now, Mom. Uh huh, I'm hanging up now." Quickly, he placed the phone on the receiver and his head in his hands. "Oh my God." He muttered wearily.
His front door opened, "AJ?"
Groaning, AJ stood and went to greet his friend. "If you've come to tell me I'm a cheating no-good bastard please save it. Two people have already told me that many times today. One being my mom, and the other my once soon-to-be girlfriend."
Giving him an inquisitive look, Howie hooked his thumb in the direction behind him. "AJ?" He asked slowly and calmly, "Why were you selling your house?"
Mildly, AJ lifted his eyebrows in question. "What D?" He wasn't sure he heard him right. Maybe the yelling he endured by two females damaged his hearing.
Howie looked closer at his friend, seeing if he could discover what was wrong with him. "Why were you selling your house?" He repeated, extremely slow.
AJ shook his head, "I'm not selling my house."
"Yeah, you are. Did." Howie corrected. "Because there's a 'Sold' sign out front."
He took in a deep breath, hoping to calm himself. It didn't work; AJ was running wildly out his front door in search of the offending sign.
Grabbing the metal pole, AJ jerked hard and removed it and parts of the grass with it. His teeth clenched tightly as he read the bright 'Sold' lettering over the 'For Sale'. "What the hell is happening to me?" He muttered darkly, taking angry strides back to inside his house.
Howie moved back from the doorway when AJ returned, sign in hand. "You want some alone time?" He asked cautiously.
Nodding mutely, AJ headed towards the phone in his living room. He left quietly, and while AJ dialed the number on the sign.
Once someone picked up he went off. "What in the hell do you think you're doing selling my house? Is it your policy to sell homes that aren't for sale? Did you know it is illegal to sell someone else's property without their consent?"
"Sir, I can assure you, we do not sell homes without the proper paperwork." The lady responded tightly.
AJ scoffed loudly, "My house was put up for sale, sold, and I just found out about the sign today from a friend! I can assure you I did not agree, nor thought of selling my home!"
"Tell me your address and phone number sir, and we will clear this up." She told him firmly.
Sighing loudly, AJ spent the next forty-five minutes arguing with her and then her boss. An hour later the mess was almost cleared, he'd been apologized to several times, sent and received countless of faxes, had his e-mail trash box filled, and was so drained could barely get himself up from the computer chair.
Stretching the stiff muscles in his back, AJ groaned loudly. "Please, just let this day end quickly." He muttered before dragging himself up to his bed.
Showering quickly and sliding into bed, he glanced tiredly at the alarm clock on his stand. It wasn't even seven o'clock yet, and already he was dead.
Yawning loudly, he closed his eyes, rolled over, and fell asleep. If the day wasn't going to end on it's own, he was just going to sleep it away. Hopefully tomorrow would be better…
