CHOCOLATE CHIP MUFFINS


2 Cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
2/3 Cup brown sugar
1/2 Cup chocolate chips

Layer the ingredients in the order given into a wide-mouth 1 quart canning jar. Pack each layer in place before adding the next ingredient. Attach a gift tag with the mixing and baking directions.


MIXING AND BAKING DIRECTIONS
1 jar Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix
3/4 Cup buttermilk
3/4 Cup applesauce
1 egg slightly beaten
1 1/2 Tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix with the buttermilk, applesauce, egg, oil and vanilla. Stir until the mixture is just blended. Do not overmix. Spoon the batter into greased muffin tins, filling 2/3 to 3/4 full. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes before removing. Serve warm or cool completely on a wire rack.
