| HOW DO YOU CHOOSE A TEACHER? |
| Finding a good Teacher is a MUST if you really want to achive any success with your training and cultivate your skill. Remember this is CRITICAL in choosing your school. Without a good teacher the information on the previous page is meaningless. Understand first there is a difference between TEACHERS and INSTRUCTORS. Instructors tend to only worry about the the curriculum and how many students they can promote. It becomes a belt factory and the belt you wear reflects a level of skill you dont really have yet. This is great for business and brings more people to the school. However, you hold a false sense of skill and given time..you'll see that what you thought you had isnt there. And the street is the wrong place to find that out. A teacher is genuinely concerned with the student and their individual developement. Trying to be sure they get what they are learning correctly. They care mainly, if not soley, for the proper transmission/preservation of their Art and imparting the student with the rank he has earned with the skill they have truely mastered. 1. Dont be afraid to ask for credentials. Many true teachers have them. If they are who they say they are then showing you their credentials wouldn't be a problem. 2. Observe the class several times ( 3 to 5 ) and pay attention to the senior students. After all they are the product of the teacher... Are they diciplined? Are they serious when they train? Do they help out the junior students? How does there skill measure? Is it where it needs to be as a Blackbelt? 3. Does he truely know about the art he teaches? Ask what the art entails even though you should have researched you art anyway. His answers should indicate if he is really teaching what you're looking for. 4. Does he teach the class with dicipline and respect? Is he truly enjoying what he does? If you have meet the requirements of choosing a style from understanding the basic principles, and the guidelines for choosing a school. And have now met requirements in finding a teacher....it's now time to train..... May you find a good Teacher... SUGGESTED READING LIVING THE MARTIAL WAY- FORREST E. MORGAN BARRACADE BOOKS |
