| These are the 8 of the 10 regulations which were established by Monk Chueh Yuan after abuses began to creep into Shaolin. They aimed to put an ethical floor under the system and improve the discipline. So we hope you will respect the regulations. 1. A student must practice without interruption. 2. Martial arts must be used only for legitimate self defense. 3. Courtesy and prudence must be shown to all teachers, masters and elders. 4. A student must be forever kind, honest, and friendly to all his colleagues. 5. In traveling, a martial artist should refrain from showing his art to the common people even to the extent of refusing challenges. 6. A martial artist must never be bellicose. 7. Martial arts should not to be taught rashly. It can only be transmitted to one who is gentle and merciful. 8. A martial artist must eschew aggressiveness, greed, and boasting.
