Tasks
|
1) Create procedure templates
Status – Completed
Major accomplishments:
Created a template form that captures all required information, including a specific versioning format that will allow for capture of both major and minor revisions. This template is such that it can be used across the board for procedures, policies, and general documentation.
2) Create manual layout
Status – Completed
Major accomplishments:
Created a layout of the final manual including a index, templates, cover page, and use of graphics.
3) Submit templates and proposed layout for approval from stakeholder
Status - Completed
Major accomplishments:
Received approval from stakeholder for both the procedure template as well as the overall layout of the manual.
4) Rewrite templates and layout to include any input
Status – Completed
Major accomplishments:
The only update required was to add the I-3 logo to the design of the cover page. This was added and the new cover design was submitted during the final approval.
5) Begin writing draft procedures
Status – Ongoing
Using the written notes and informal procedures we found, I have begun filling in the procedure template for many of the required procedures.
6) Update project tracking website
I have updated the website to reflect the week seven report.

Decisions
|
Problem:
The purpose of this manual is to document I-3 configuration management procedures. However will this be identified as a configuration management or an I-3 manual? How will it be identified?
Solution:
We had a meeting with the stakeholder and members of both the configuration management and the I-3 groups. Both sides made arguments as to why the manual should be considered theirs. However in the end, it was decided that the manual itself would be owned by configuration management, but the I-3 logo will be prominently displayed on the cover page. |
Learning
|
1) What helpful feedback did you get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user, stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? What did you learn from this feedback?
My classmates did not have any input on my posting or website this week.
My co-workers were able to give input on how to reach a compromise on making sure the manual was seen as I-3 even though ultimately it was owned by I-3. They were also able to given me the support I needed to feel confident to suggest my version plan to ensure the ability to capture both the major and minor revisions.
My stakeholder reviewed and approved my template and layout.
2) What resources did you use this week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new resources? What was your learning?
The resources that I used this week were primarily people: Angela Cavesina, LaWanda Stewart, Randy Arrasmith, Chris Cloutire, Jay Martin and Lyle Steger. These were the ones who help me finalize the templates and manual layout. Secondary resources including, desktop system at work, laptop system at home, internet access, CMMI website, Capella Website, notebook, email, phones, conference room, and whiteboard.
This week I learned that it is possible to easily share ownership of procedures through two different groups. I also found out that creating a template that would not only meet the CMMI requirement, but that could be used for more the just procedures was not hard to create.
3) What research did you perform this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What is your findings/learning?
Research Question: How does being an SOA Environment effect our procedures?
Source(s): Land, Susan K, Walz, John W (2005) Practical Support for CMMI – SW Software Project Documentation: Using IEEE Software Engineering Standards.
Answer/Learning:
I learned that even though the point of my project is to achieve CMMI standards, there are many other standard which must come into play because we do develop software. All our software is based on the IEEE Engineering standards, so they must come into play when trying to finalize written procedures.
4) What did you learn this week in general in producing your project?
To have the confidence to suggest change or to include something we have never done before – such as the new versioning system. Even if my idea is not accepted it is important that the new ideas are at least presented.

Indicators
|
1) What went well this week? What didn’t?
- The creation of the template went well. It was easier to create then I thought it would be.
- My procedural ownership meeting went very well.
- My ability to post my progress report early was not successful.
2) How well did you stick to your project schedule?
- I have preformed all of my scheduled tasks, including be able put together a frame work for a future revision of this manual.
3) How prepared are you to conclude your project in Unit 10 as required in this course?
- I am basically prepared to conclude my project according to plan. However due to family illness, my schedule may slide. If this occurs I have made arrangements for Angela Cavesina to oversee the completion of the project outside the scope of this class.
4) How likely is it that you will need to resort to your contingency plan?
At this point it is very unlikely that I will need to resort my contingency plan
