Procedural Manual for I-3 Configuration Management at Center Wide Management |

Unit 6: 14 May 2006 |

|
Tasks |
1) Research specific CMMI requirements for documentation Status
– Completed Major
accomplishments: Using
the CMMI guidelines and website, I completed a list of the minimum
requirements for writing procedures. These
requirements are based on the lowest level of the CMMI ratings. This will help ensure that the manual will
pass a CMMI audit. 2) Create a matrix of mandatory procedures Status
– Completed Major
accomplishments: After
gathering input from members of the Engineering, CM and Management teams I
have created a list of the minimum procedures that will be required for the
I-3 manual. There are certain
non-mandatory duties that will not be covered in the manual at this time, however they could be added at a later date. 3) Compile all current notes, hints, and emails on procedures Status - Ongoing Major
accomplishments: Created
a file containing copies of all written information regarding
procedures. This file contains copies
of procedures, notes, hints, and redlines.
As this information is currently spread out between multiple people in
a variety of locations. This file will
also acts as historical document. 4) Decide on web hosting company Status –
Completed Major
accomplishments: Originally
I selected freewebs.com as host for our tracking website. However further investigation has led me to
a security policy that requires I change hosts. The new host will be yahoo.geocities. 5) Create Project Tracking
Website Status
– Ongoing The
initial freewebs.com site was created with minor issues: missing image and
broken links. The new and final site
at yahoo.geocities is in the final stage of
creation and will be hosted by |

Decisions |
Problem: Security
will not allow access to freewebs.com without a waiver. The waiver approval process can take up to
3 months for completion. Solution: Rather
then attempt the waiver process, I am creating a new project tracking website
at yahoo.geocities.
I have already received written approval from security in regards to
accessing this site. |

Learning |
1) What helpful feedback did you
get in the class (instructor, classmates) and outside the class (user,
stakeholder, beneficiary, mentor, expert advisor, others)? What did you learn
from this feedback? My
classmates gave me insights on how to handle keeping tracking inputs and
information in regards to my project and my website. Anita explain how emails can be one of the
best methods both as an easy way to receive and tracking input from others as
well as to tracking ideas I’ve had. My
co-workers were able to help suggest ways of compiling and categorizing the
various notes we have regarding our current procedures. This also included a long discussion with
how beneficial a historical file with copies of all of our suggestions and
notes would be a good idea. My
stakeholder suggested who within the management group might be able to review
my listing of CMMI requirements. She
also gave her approval of the procedural matrix and website layout. 2) What resources did you use this
week (e.g., people, money, equipment, systems, or software)? Did you add new
resources? What was your learning? The
resources that I used this week were primarily people: Angela Cavesina, LaWanda Stewart,
Randy Arrasmith, Cindy Taylor, and Bob Pekerak. These
were the ones who help me to compile the information needed to start my
projects. Secondary resources
including, desktop system at work, laptop system at home, internet access,
CMMI website, Capella Website, notebook, email and
phones. This
week I learned that many people are in favor of the creation of this
manual. People were very willing to
share information and offer to help. I
also again came to realize how important my notebook and calendar are to
making sure I meet deadlines. 3) What research did you perform
this week that was assisting and/or literature based? What is your
findings/learning?
Research
Question: What are the minimum requirements for documentation of procedures
for passing a CMMI audit? Source(s):
Phillips, Mike (2005) CMMI in a SOA Environment Answer/Learning:
I
learned that applying the concepts of CMMI will vary in different types of
environments. My environment is
specific to software engineering, testing and production. I was able to discover that the primary
need for passing a CMMI audit is to have your main procedures documented in
such a way that they are completely reproducible. I have also learned that the communication
of the availability of the procedures, once they are complete, is just as
important. 4) What did you learn this week in
general in producing your project? Again I
learned how important documentation is to the quality of work and production
level of our group. I was also
surprised at the response of people who want to help with this project. |

Indicators |
1) What
went well this week? What didn’t?
-
My gathering information in regards to
what we already have written down for procedures went very well. -
My choice of web hosting did not go well. I was required to select a new host and
repost my site. -
My ability to turn this week’s deliverables in on time was not
successful
2) How
well did you stick to your project schedule?
-
I have preformed all of my scheduled
tasks, including repeating one. -
Although all of the tasks were completed
I did fall behind on the posting of this week’s status report and website
updates. 3) How prepared are you to
conclude your project in Unit 10 as required in this course? - I am
basically prepared to conclude my project according to plan. However due to family illness, my schedule
may slide. If this occurs I have made
arrangements for Angela Cavesina to oversee the
completion of the project outside the scope of this class. 4) How likely is it that you will
need to resort to your contingency plan? At this
point it is very unlikely that I will need to resort my contingency plan
