Mar 14 GREAT START!!!!!! Well boys Wally is back! I've had three months of celebratory ales.......not to mention a few days running around the old country with some of the boys and of few of those Winslow types.................and I needed to sober up. Too bad the boys won't let me. The party after the first game of '04 was stupendous. Almost as good as the effort by the lads, a 4 - 0 blanking of Indian Mills. Indian Mills played their typically tough, clean game. The same game that we usually struggle with but our boys excelled. Our offense was brilliant as always with Jaime scoring two, Wink adding a corker from 25 yards our, and Jeff putting one in on a nice hustle play. Kudos to Wink with his hustle and playmaking. Seven percent body fat???? --Give that boy some beers!!!!!! I really want to celebrate the defensive effort. After an off season of of concentration by practicing the new "turnstile defense" that coach Tom has installed, it is obvious the effort was not wasted. Seriously, everyone did great with fowards and middies being seen all the way back at our own goal box making plays. Last, but not least, was Billy who saved our bacon a couple of times........ Great Effort!!!! We will need to keep it up theis week, since we have a few injuries and a few missing bodies. Tenacious Tom has two bad feet, Cheeky Chunky has a bad something or other and we are short (no offense Mike) some men this week against WINSLOW!!! It is great to be back. The game is a Camden community College (our old field). Don't be late!!!!!!! NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Wink
Mar 21 WINSLOW BLUES First of all sorry I was late with the report this week. It is my sad duty to inform all of you fans that the undefeated streak is over. And, if someone was going to beat us it was Winslow. It was a typical game, Jamie shot, Wink passed, Iain pummeled, and Mouse talked alot. Unfortuanately, we lost. Credit Winslow with a tough physical game plan and with taking advantage of their opportunites. We started out pretty well and took a 1 - 0 lead when Johnny hit a rocket that dipped under the keeper for a goal. Iain had a goal disallowed due to a penalty away from the play. This turned out to be the turning point. Winslow came back with a long cross for a goal. Their 2nd was a nice header on a corner. The rest of the game was tightly contested in the midfield with few scoring chances either way. Not a bad game, we just need to give a little more effort. The always tough Moorestown is on the slate this week. NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: No one really stood out this week.
Mar 28 A TALE OF TWO GAMES The lads got over the Winslow blues fairly quickly this week with a 2-1 win over Moorestown. Once again this was a tough game against a good team. Moorestown is a well skilled, hard playing team. This game started with the boys in Orange undermanned in the back. Iain, Sharky, and Mikey all missed this week. Mouse filled in admirably at sweeper and Mark played a really nice aggressive game. Even Jeff Nicolai pulled a stint at fullback when we ran out of gas at the end of the game. Kudos to Eric and Tom for running their butts off. For three quarters our lads played well. Wink and Davey held down the midfield and we had numerous opportunities. .After Moorestown buried their only good chance to lead 1-0 Jamie took over and buried two. Notable mention to Sean and Matt who combined to get Jamie the ball for his first goal. This 2-1 lead really could have been more. It really should have been more because Moorestown threw everything, including the kitchen sink at us in the fourth quarter. Our lads were tired and Moorestown smelled blood. We may have crossed midfield twice in the last 10 minutes. Kudos to the man of the match, Billy, for saving our bacon. He made some unbelievable saves and had one huge collision with a Moorestownian. Seismic sensors in California registerd a 5.0 earthquake when these two big boys hit the ground. It appears Billy has been eating alot of bacon as well as saving it because in this collision of behemoths Billy was undaunted while his victim had to be helped off. Seriously, it was a hell of a save and we are glad no one was hurt. West Deptford at home this week. Camden County Vo-Tech is once again our home. I am off to have a victory pint. NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Billy
Apr 18 SMALL FIELD, GOOD WIN Well, it was back to work this week after a rainout and a holiday break. Our lads were anxious to go after a three week break. Washington Township was on the menu. Mouse started us out with a pep talk. He totally interupted Tom who was handing out the lineup but the lads got the message. We started with numerous oppotunities from Jamie, Matt, and John but could not score. Jamie finally put us on the board with a point blank headball. Wink duplicated the play a few minutes later for a 2-0 lead. We took this lead into half time and proceded to let W Township back into the game with an early 2nd half goal. Off the tip, Jamie and Matt made the play of the game with tic-tac-toe give and go passes all the way the the 18 where Matt scored. The third quarter was the Matt show. He hit the post and scored another to put us up for good. Somewhere at this point we were distracted by Mouse yelling "Yoooo Hoooo Honey here I am!" as his wife arrived at the game. John and Sean combined for two late goals, each scoring one, although John's MAY have been offside. Kudos to our defense who did a good job on Washington's suprisingly potent offense. It was great to see Chunky back. I am not going to mention that Matt looked like John LeClair tipping in a great shot by Chunky for his second goal. (Can't mess with success!) Finally, our middies, led by Wink and his 5.75% body fat, did a awesome job at controlling the temp of the match. Good Win!!!!! Next week is Delanco......NO LET UP!!!!!!\ I am off to have a victory pint. NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Matt
Apr 25 NEW FIELD GREAT WIN Well the boys showed off their new digs with a resounding victory over Delanco. Manager Mouse got our lads a new home pitch, what he didn't tell us is that we were going to need our running boots, this field is huge! It was a good thing that we had 16 able bodies for the game. Jamie started us off with a penalty kick after making a nice run and taking a foul. Our middies then started to feed the fowards with through balls from many different angles. The field allowed for our ball control game to really work well. Matt and Wink showed off their skills by shooting at the posts for richochet goals and Jamie scored another before Jeffrey made a great run and move to notch his second tally of the season. Then the defense got into the game. Mike " Dilallliao" made a run and got a shot off from inside the box. "Star" Kauterman decide to gate two opposing players with one tap (It didn't work.) And then.....it happened, Mouse got the ball in space......he triumphantly dribbled up the field.....and then, his head exploded!!!! Faced with multiple options for wide open passes that may have confused even the Mighty Chunk, Mouse.............quietly had brain lock and instead off actually passing the ball he meekly handed the ball to the closet Delanco player and fell down. Better luck next week Mouse! I am having fun with these boys because they ptiched a shutout. Other notes - by Eric "Guiness" Nicolai Jamie is not allowed to take head ball lessons from John any more. We only need one player who misses them from 3 feet in front of the goal. Kudos to Billy and Sharky great goalie play. Wink (5.5% body fat) is awarded one of Chunky's Hamburgers for getting the Sponge Bob award this week. Put some meat on those bones! Burlington next week! Have a pint on me Lads!!! NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Wink
May 2 - STRONG MOVE It was Burlington last week and our lads fought hard for a great victory in order to move into first place in the standings. First I owe our biggest player Iain an apology for forgetting his goal against Delanco last week. I have to stop celebrating during the matches. Burlington played their typical hard nosed style along with the "stream of counciousness" trash talking sponsered by "You Know Who". Both sides had opportunities early but were unable to cash in until Jeff took a great shot when the ball came out of a scrum around Jamie. Jeff had to make a strong move to his left to bury the ball past the keeper. Billy kept the Burlington lads out of the net with some nifty saves until we let him down by not following a penalty kick that Billy saved intially and once on a rebound. We kept watching until Burlington scored on the second rebound. I mean "Come On Billy, Make The Save!" Jamie pulled up lame in the second half which left us with no substitutes and things were not looking great until Wink and Matt combined for some nifty passing to give John a wide open shot which he did not miss. We held on the final 10 minutes with outstanding defense and great goal play. This was a hard fought, fun game, Nice Job by everyone. Eric "Guiness" Nicholai's Thoughts Kudos to "old and slow" Chunky for playing injured and playing well ToWink for getting down to 5% body fat. To Julie because she got Matt there in time. To Tom for shutting down Burlington's best foward. To Sharky for kicking butt at sweeper and playing through injury. To Billy for playing great! Two Weeks off before Winslow! Get Heathy! Have a pint on me Lads!!! NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Billy
May 23 - WILD AT WINSLOW What can I say about this game? A 7-0 shellacking of Winslow is a rare think indeed. Our lads put together their finest effort of the season, for sure. The game started out like these matches normally do, with equal pressure applied by both sides. Winslow had a few chanes but had failed when Jeff's left foot put a well placed shot into the net. Next, Jamie did his thing. Dave put a great through ball onto Jamie's foot for his first and tic-tac-toe passing from Eric to Bobby to Jamie to Bobby and back to Jamie for a head ball put us up 3-0. This play was a thing of beauty. Sharky and the boys were handling Winslow's usually effective long ball game by not allowing anyone deep. Our defense was extremely effective, it seemed like every time we stopped them the "D" had the ball out under control to the front where a scoring chance was generated. Next we had a Beckenbauer sighting when Tom ,from his fullback spot, dribbled through the whole Winslow flank all the way down to the corner where his perfect cross allowed John to make it 4-0. The game got a little chippy when ywo more for Jamie and one for Bobby finished off the scoring but to everyones credit nothing too bad happened. Again, this was a total team effort and shows how good we can play. LET'S KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Washington Township this week. Have a pint on me Lads!!! NICE WIN ! Wally SBSP Award Winner: The Whole Team PS Wink sweated pff another .25% of body fat. We need to get him some off Chunky's cheeseburgers.
June 6 - DOWN AND OUT AT INDIAN MILLS Sorry I missed last weeks win against Washington Township.? A rousing 6 - 1 win. The stats are updated. What can I say about this weeks game? An uninspired tie versus Indian Mills. Our lads were lackadasical from the start. They still managed to get a 3-0 lead on goals from Bobby, John , and Dave. It turned out to be not enough. We had a spectacular collapse. Three Indian Mills goals in the last 12 minutes tied the game. Our play caught up with us and we payed for it. We can not afford any more let downs this year if we are going to repeat. Just as Winslow was a great team effort this was a great team collapse. Delanco this week Wally SBSP Award Winner: NONE Deserved
June 20 MIRED BY MOORESTOWN Another bad outing after a non challenging game. Our lads seem to let their skill go to their heads this week. As Chunk said at our end of the first period "chewing out", " Noone seems to care ! Let's play with emotion!!!!!" Moorestown, to their credit played very well and made thier first period goal stand up unitl 10 seconds in the game when Wink followed a floating shot from Chunk. I think the combination of missing some players, and our attitude really hurt us this week. Kudos to Matt for giving the boys some energy, to Wink for running his butt off, and to Chunk for trying to rouse our psyche. WE MUST CAPITALIZE ON OUR CHANCES!! Let's get it together against West Epford!! Wally SBSP Award Winner: NONE Deserved
June 27 ANOTHER LOSS Different story but the same result this week. We played well but did not score. One reason for some of our problems is mounting injuries and missing players. However, there is still enough talent out there that we should be winning these games. We hit crossbars and pretty much created scoring opportunities at will, but, except for a great pass by Dave to give John an easy goal we were stymied. As it stands we still own our destiny. If we win this week at Burlington and then against West Deptford we should win the division. Remember, Mat and Julie are hosting a post game bash this weekend! Let's get it together against Burlington!! Wally SBSP Award Winner: NONE Deserved
July 11 GREAT GAME, GREAT WIN Well, the lads put together a terrific effort against Burlington to put a nice cap on the season. A 5-1 domination. Jamie stirred up the scoring with his return from vacation by putting in three. Jeff scored a nice rebound goal and the wind from his first to whiffs on the bouncing ball cooled us down from the heat. Bobby put in a beautiful header to finish off the scoring. Our BFG came back to us and rsponded with agreat game goal. He made some key saves early in the game before we took control. All in all, it was a very nice effort. The boys are fun to watch when they play like that. We finished the season in 2nd place 3 points behind Moorestown. We do have a game in hand and may make the game up. Wink got injured, he is down with compartment syndrome. Hopefully, he will be ready next season. GOOD SEASON LADS! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Billy
Sep 3 2003/2004 Champs Again!!!!!1 I have been celebrating all off season. A few pints in the summer to the boys in orange. A new season starts next week. Lets do it again!! Hopefully we will start with a healthy team. I know there are some changes this year. Wally has heard: Chunky is on a diet, Mouse found some faster hair cream, Tom is on riddilin, Jamie found a scoring touch(finally!), Wink got his fat butt in shape, Billy learned how to drink beer, Iain is Scottish (Who knew?), John bought a right foot (so he wouldn't have 2 left......you get it), Sharky is only drinking Zima, Mike went to Medical school (no more nurse Fokker), and finally Matt is going celibate to concentrate on the season (the problem is Julie isn't). HAVE GREAT SEASON LADS! Wally SBSP Award Winner:
Sep 12 DELANCO 7 - 2 Win! ( unfortunatly Wally's column was lost.) HAVE GREAT SEASON LADS! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Chunky
Sep 19 GAME 2 - Winslow The game started.......and the boys started and played well. A few quick goals and before you know it the boys were out to a commanding lead. ...4-0. Wow shat a start! Although, some things neve change....BFG was not on time........Mouse had a 30 yard run at someone and then protested there was no foul. Jamie had his average game a scored 3 goals. Huh......"Jamie has an average game and scores threee goals!" There was a quote in here from an unnamed player that we will just call "A"........and you remember what the A stands for......... Anyway, I fell asleep in the middle of the game and when I woke up it was apparent that the lads did also. The Winslow boys put in soe hard work and tallied 2 quick goals to cut the lead. Wink and Bobby also scored to put the game out of reach. I must say that the officiating was absolutely, well you now....."A" This week the battle of the unbeatens! Let's wake Up and play the entire match! Wally SBSP Award Winner:
Sep 26 GAME 3 - The Itchy and Scratchy Show This week it was the Itchy and Scratchy show.........or as they are better known, Jamie and Wink..........powering the boys to a 6-1 win over Moorestown! The lads kept up the early season trend of scoring an early goal when Jeff broke into the box and got tackled by the Moorestown keeper earning a PK which Jamie buried. Wink and Jamie took turns scoring the next 4 in a variety of ways. The one that sticks out in my mind was when Wink (3.5% body fat) passed a long ball to Jamie who decided to let Wink (3.25% bady fat) run it down behind everyone instead of gerting it himself............. allowing Wink to achieve the rare feat of assisting on his own goal. Jeff who played great at foward, half, and fullback stole a late pass and scored our 6th tally to round out the scoring. BFG played very well while the middies and defense played great. Our only blemish was a last second goal against. Lastly, I must remark that, in addition to scoring, Jamie and Wink were all over the place creating good scoring opportunites for everyone. This week: another battle of the unbeatens! Let's play another great match! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Itchy....no....Scratchy......aaaand the winner is....Jamie!
Oct 3 GAME 4 - ASatisfying Win! I had to travel to the homeland this week so I missed the match. However, the man of "flowing locks" filled me in. A 3-1 victory over Burlington. How sweet it is. Jeff, Jamie, and Bobby did the scoring for our lads. I hear that a certain Scotsman had to fill in as referee........even calling a penalty kick. Iain is recovering from a broken wrist so he provided a fill in referee. The consensus this week is that "Mini Iain" played an outstanding match. Way to go Bobby! Next week is cancelled....maybe forfeit.... by Indian Mills. See yo in two weeks. Wally SBSP Award Winner: Bobby!
Oct 17 GAME 6 - Welcoming Sicklerville This week our lads laid out the welcome carpet to our newest Division 1 foe, Sicklerville. We invitied them to an 8 - 2 victory party at our house. The boys were itching to play after a bye week and we had a full roster. Even the big Scotsman played through injury. He showed his barbarian heritage by wielding a club during the match. Sicklerville played a very aggressive offsides trap agianst the boys. It was effective for a quarter which ended 2 -1 after Jamie and Wink............Uhhh...........Itchy and Scratchy gave us a lead. After a scolding by team pyschologist/tactician Chunky, we started to break the trap on a regular basis providing many scoring chances and goals. Sean, Bobby, and John scored as well as Jamie (twice) and Wink again, to round out the scoring. Some notables, Jeff had a very good game setting up plays and the outside middies played exceptionally well. Sean, Bobby, and Dave all had to motor to break the trap and all were very involved. Mouse made a nice run down the Fright wing to create a goal right after he feigned injury in order to lure Sicklerville into a breakaway. His great acting had the enemy striker so confused by the lack of pursuit that he missed his wide open shot. Well Done Mouse!! Nice Win!!!! Keep it going next Week! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Matt (This is a bribe in order to get Matt and Julie to come hang out after the game.)
Oct 24 GAME 7 - Halfway Point Our lads in Orange put up a nice win at West Deptford this week. This observer would say that we didn't play as well as we can but still managed a win, as good teams do! We are 6-0 halfway through the season! Jamie pounded in three, with Wink, and Bobby accounting for our other two. However, don't let that the brevity of this report fool you, much happened this week. BFG showed up early and sober, so early that he had time to get back into his car, drive to a bathroom, and still make it back for a Red Bull prior to the game. We decided BFG has to drink on saturday and that Sean is the only one who can drink Red Bull and stay............calm? Our daily pep talk/coaching adjusment speech by the......"Flowing Mane"......didn't prepare us for the trapping and shooting lessons that were taught to us by Mouse and Chris. Mouse, after discussing some trapping issues of a teamate last week, showed us just how to trap with style. We found out it actually doesn't matter if you stop (or even touch) the ball as long as you look good...........twice! He then showed his diving form. Even Greg Lougainis would have been hard pressed to do a double gainer from the ground, miss the ball and the player, and get up without a hair out of place. Chris's shooting lesson was a shorter and more direct, but it did involve a big swing and a miss........kind of like "Casey at the Bat". I will give him credit for staying on his feet, although his hair did get messed up. We don't have a big "A" award.............but if we did.........who would win? All kidding aside, nice win! Chris take care of your hamstring. Keep it going next Week! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Our instructors!!!!
Oct 31 Game 8 Gibby 8 Moorestown 1
Nov 7 GAME 9 Gibby 4 - Ind Mills 0 Well I come back from vacation and what do I see a Gibby team that has only 11 men to play. I wonder what is going on, or if we are in trouble, and then Jamie puts in 4 goals. We wind up with a wonderful win and everyone gets a pint or two. On a lighter note, Sharky had a wonderful game using some off beat tactics. First, the chemical warfare of the smell coming off his body caused opposing wingers to feel faint, and second, Sharky's near passing out on the sidelines confused them asto the dimensions of the field. Back to the action, Jamie was a stud as usual. Left foot, right foot, head, and a breakaway goals finished out his day. My, My Jamie it appears you actually are........ fast! Chunky played very well, the wee one was running all game, well walking fast. Lastly, BFG kicked butt. As we tired as a team we decided to let more and more breakaways through, just to see Billy dive. He played great until he blew his shutout on a 2 on 0. COME ON LAD!!!!! Do BETTER!!! Just kidding Bill. Everyone played well especially with no subs. Great Win Lads! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Jamie and Billy
Nov 14 GAME 10 Gibby 4 - West Depford 1 Wow, what a game! A clear, cold fall morning provivded a great backdrop to another outstanding victory for the lads in orange. West Deptford played a very good game keeping the score level at one until halftime. After Jeff scored a nice goal early, West Deptford tied us in the 2nd period. Then our finely coifed, wee, burger eater game his customary halftime speech and inspired our lads. Our boys cam out and played a great 3rd quarter to put some distance between them and our opponent, with two goals off of corner kicks for Bobby and John. Jamie finally tallied, after missing some gimmies, to end the scoring at 4 -1. Everyone played well, especially the midfield. We seemed to control the center third of the field all day. Kudos to E-Dog who seemed to be everywhere. His great hustle and determination were inspiring to me as I sipped my Guiness in the cold. Our Defense did their usual stand out job as well as BFG. Nice game all around. Tough game at Burlington this week!!!!!. Great Win Lads! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Eric
Nov21 Gibby 2 Burlington 1 Sorry boys I misssed the game this week. Wally
Nov 28 GAME 12 Gibby 3 Wins 1 SINGIN' IN THE RAIN It was a wild, wet day on Sunday. Winslow came into town with boots aflyin' and slide tackles all around.........and the lads triumphed. The most promising play of the day was Mouse and Bill walking the field prior to the game in order to determine if we should play in a deluge. "No problem" they said, and the game was on. Unfortunately, the field managers were not as happy with the decision. Oops! The wet day slowed down our lads hairstyles but not their feet. Even our well groomed, svelte,cheeseburger eating midfielder looked like a drowned dog at one point but still played well as did our squad. Jamie had a nice early goal and later a won a penalty. While John fed Wink for our third goal. Winslow, as always, fought hard and scored late to make the last 10 minutes very interesting. It was raining so hard at one point that even Mouse's manscape got wet............don't ask me how I know!!!!! Conditions required our fullbacks to play conservatively (Mouse was only seen in the opponent penalty box once!) As Mike said "No overlapping runs?...............Your killing my game!". Oh Well! Nice Win lads! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Tom (For finally getting to stay and have some beers!}
Dec 5 GAME 13 Gibby 6 DLC 2 ANOTHER GOOD WIN! Delanco showed up for the game with only 10 players this week. The end result was inevitable but Delanco, to their credit played hard. Our lads put a 6-2 win on them. The boys came out and quickly took a 2-0 lead when Billy, who was very bored at that point, woke up as a loooooooong shot went by him and hit the net without a challenge. The boys came out in the second half and expanded their lead quickly - taking a 6 - 1 lead. Jamie and Jeff had 3 goals each by the end of the third quarter. Highlights included our favorite "defender" Mouse moving up to midfield once the lineup was shuffled with the loss of Johnny due to injury. Our team Medical Specialist Mike "Nurse Focker" was scared to death thinking we had more compartment syndrome. Thank god Johnny has just a little??? bit of extra body fat, unlike Winks 2.5%, so he had some protection. Back to Mouse, after watching many Gibby games I have never seen a single middie change the pace of a game so dramatically. The field seemed lopsided to his side....whcich explains why so many of those passes went out of bounds. Jamie, as good as his season has been, left open the door for the team scoring lead this year because he will miss next week's game. Wink and Jeff will duke it out trying to score 23 goals next week to pass Jamie............We'll See! Nice Win lads! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Jamie and Jeff
Dec 12 Gibby 2 Sicklerville 2 An undermanned squad finished off the undefeated season with a 2-2 tie. Jeff and Wink scored goals to fuel a comeback on a sloppy cold pitch. Great Season Lads!!! Wally SBSP Award Winner: Wink
