After an topsy turvey meet, Giaan Rooney this morning saved her best till last as she lead-off the 4 X 100m medley relay team, her final swim for this year's championships.
In a personal best time of 1.01.75 (previous P.B. - 1:02.20) Giaan swum fantastically, her first time under the 1:02 barrier, absolutely motoring on the first 50, her split time 30.03 - with 25m to go it was Rooney who was moving up the field as she capped off a fantastic 100 meters, touching in 3rd place behind the Chinese and German teams, leaving it all in the water, a lifetime best to get the Australian team off to it's best possible start, before Leisel Jones dived in the water for the breastroke.
An arm wrestle of a race, all the team members for Australian performed beautifully, each holding their own on the back of their team mates work, Leisel and Jess Schipper both of Redcliffe performing great - while the ever-realiable Jodie Henry with her trademark blistering final 50m stormed home with the Aussies narrowly in fourth, to lift the team to the podium, claiming the bronze as it was smiles all round behind the blocks with a big group hug before Giaan gave Jodie a kiss with the all-QLD team happy campers making their way to the interview with Duncan Armstrong.
Giaan said "That's fantastic, I knew I was a liability in this race," adding that she knew if she could swim a P.B. with how great the rest team is that they were in with a shot, and then with a smile said it was great to swim at her best on the second last day of the meet! [paraphrased, but I think I'm not too far off what was really said! ;-)] aww c'mon you modest thing! ;-) I think Giaan really proved that although on paper, you mightn't be the fastest swimmer in the field, it all comes down to how you perform on the night and perform she did!!
Leisel, Jess and Jodie all echoed Giaan's thought of how they were happy with their swims, and with how their team mates had swum so well too.
So that about wraps it up on my "rushed version" -- more tonight when I return from the Footy! ;-) (GO BULLDOGS! :D) -- unfortunately my computer doesn't want to behave and let me view the Adobe files with the full results, but I'll add the finishing touches tonight some time.
Congratulations to the Australian team on bronze and of course a big Congrats to Giaan on her P.B.!!! Go you good thing!! :D
