TRANSCRIPT - CH 9 INTERVIEW WITH GIAAN AFTER HER 200M FREESTYLE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WIN

Interviewer is Duncan Armstrong, swim champion and now Ch 9 commentator, who was poolside after Giaan's win.

Duncan: Giaan, a dream come true, your the world champion!

Giaan: I don't think it will sink in for a few days, but, oh my god, I just can't believe it, it just panned out exactly how I wanted it to, it just all came together on the night and I just can't be happier.

Duncan: How important was it to look at Claudia Poll for the first 150m?

Giaan: Well, basically, I knew all the girls were going to go out really hard and I'm a back end swimmer so I just had to try and keep myself under my race and my focus and I knew if I was up at the third 50, I was in with a chance coming home, I had a really bad turn [laughs], but, just the belief in myself was just awesome, that's what got me through tonight

Duncan: Well how was your focus in the last 15m quickly?

Giaan: I don't really remember it! [laughs] Umm... just that I deserved it and I needed it more that anything and I knew tonight was my night. I just felt so calm going into that race knowing that I had done the work and I was ready to step up tonight.

Duncan: Absolutely. Giaan, you are a deserved world champion. Good on ya.

Giaan: Thanks Duncan.
