2003 Australian Short Course Championships, Hobart
As you all will no doubt remember! ;) this time last week it was 'smiles all 'round' as Rooney's lead-off swim in the 4 X 100m medley relay, a P.B! :D, saw the Aussie girls get off to a fantastic start, followed by fantastic swims from all involved, en-route to the silver medal winning performance on the World stage.
With it being a week to the day Giaan has done it again! :)
Tonight "Roons" has bagged gold in the 100m backstroke at the National Short Course Championships, in a personal best time of 59.70 - first time under the magic minute mark! - caping off a enjoyable fortnight for the 20 year old -- one would think! ;-)
With her swim being just 0.19 outside of the Australian record held by Dyana Calub, it's the third fastest time ever clocked by an Australian! -- it is, quite simply!, a fantastic result! :D
Victorians Tay Zimmer [Warrnambool] (1:00.75) and Rachel Goh [Melbourne Vicentre] (1:00.80) took the other podium places in the all-Victorian-based affair! ;-)
Congrats to all the other swimmers who have also impressed in a big way, Libby Lenton with her Australian-record last night in the 100m free semis, and her victory tonight in the finals, and Brooke Hanson on her I.M. record, to go with her 50m breastroke record on Night one, despite suffering with a groin strain which is all detailed in the Australian Swimming media releases (see link below)
I'm spewing that I have to vacate the computer, so with all the going's-on over the past two days of the Aussie Short Course Champs, I'll have to just say don't forget to keep checking up on the Australian Swimming website, with Giaan next racing tomorrow morning in the heats of the 50 back. Go Giaan! :D & A big "yay!!" on the P.B. tonight! :D
