The Gibby Gazette
November 2,

Howdy, hello, an-nyong.  It's Saturday morning.  I see that I've been keeping up a steady average of updating my site once a month now.  In my defence, I have been busy.  Free time is a precious commocity these days, but in 5 more weeks things should be back to normal.  At least for a couple weeks and then we're back into Intensive session again.

I can't belive that I got out of bed at 6:30 this morning. Not something I wanted to do, but I fell asleep early last night.  I've been getting up at 7am every morning to go to school.  Which makes it pretty tough to stay up late at night.  My days are really long but it's not as hard as I make it out to be.  Actually I really enjoy taking the classes.  My classmates are fun and we have a good time.

What's new with all you people?  It seems that the only emails I get these days are from people telling me that I haven't updated my site in awhile.  I finally got my videos up, as well as some new pictures.  If you're viewing the pictures from the World Cup, do the slideshow and read the comments.  Humor me cause it took me awhile to put them in order.

I just got through a really busy week.  I had 4 midterms at school and month-end tests at work.  Not to mention two Halloween parties for my students.  They don't really celebrate Halloween in Korea but because we are an English academy we try to expose the kids to as much Western culture as we have time for.  I put on a scary mask and ran around terrorizing students.  It was fun, but a word of adice to anyone who deals with children.  If you're going to feed them candy, wait until it's about time for them to leave before you give it to them.  Nothing like dealing with a classroom of children whacked out on a sugar rush.

I've done some more touristy stuff this month.  I visited Seoul Tower.  Seoul Tower looks like the CN tower only the structure isn't as high It'still pretty high up there though cause it's situated on top of a mountain.  Well actually they call it a mountain but it's really more of a big hill in the middle of Seoul.  I had wanted to go there during the day but was told that it's better at night.  I don't know how it's better because the lights of the city all look the same to me.  I guess I'll have to go back there during the day.  I want to look around Seoul and see how all the area that I go to are connected.

Beaver's Wings, my favorite bar for hanging out in Hongdae is now closed.  Well not exactly closed but Duane sold it to a Korean and he's changing it around to attract Korean customers and drive the foreigners out.  Duane says he'll open Beaver's Wings II, but it'll be strictly a restaurant in a different area.  So, it won't be the same.

I went out searching for western food last weekend.  I managed to find a place but the selection with pretty skimpy and the prices rather ridiculous.  I ended up buying some crap and I made some chicken soft tacos Sunday night.  Not exactly Taco Bell but it was pretty good none the less.

I've just finished month number nine, which leaves three to go.  I haven't saved as much money as I thought I would out here but I'm pretty sure I'll be out of debt in two months and still come home with at least $6,000.  Which isn't too shabby and that's if I left at the end of January, which I doubt I will.  My brother has been talking about coming to Korea so I'd like to get him a job at my school starting at the end of December.  In which case I'd spend 6 more months here and then come back for the summer.

Who knows what I'll do.  It's still far enough away that I don't need to worry about it too much.  I'm having fun, making money, and learning a language that might prove useful in the future.  Life is good.
