| March 17, 2002 Happy St. Patrick's Day!! First off, for everyone who emailed me asking me what the girl from Winnipeg looks like,...I didn't come all the way to Korea to date a Winnipegger...if anything I came here to get away from them...kidding! I was sitting in my apartment practically all day watching the boob tube so I felt like I had to get out...so I'm back here only 3 days after my last entry. Well actually I slept most of the day... Didn't get in till early this morning. I was checking my watch as I was going home from Hong-dae last night. It was a little after 4am so I figured I'd just wait for the subway to start up again and save myself 25 bucks. So I wandered into a bar and killed a half hour and then walked down to the subway station. Now here's the interesting part..or at least I think it was interesting. I hopped into a subway car that was just sitting there and promptly fell asleep. The car didn't move cause I woke up about 30 minutes later when the subway started moving. I had to transfer at the first stop so I stayed awake for that but then when I got into the next subway I fell asleep again as soon my butt hit the seat. Then I woke up again 20 minutes later just as the doors were opening at the stop where I had to transfer again...strange. So I hopped up and wandered in a daze into the next subway where I fell asleep again, but then my eyes popped open as the doors were opening at my final stop... Kind of strange how your subconscious works...was kind of cool though that a boring hour-long subway ride home flew by. I caught a bus right away and then got in at about 7am. I think next time though I'll pay the 25 bucks. I went into Seoul yesterday with the intention of finding a cell phone but the places where we went, didn't have anything reasonable. I was out with Soo again yesterday "painting the city blue" as he called it (yes I corrected him). I finally beat him at Korean billiards. Nothing too exciting happened last night, I found a new bar that was full of foreigners but it was more or less a sausage fest...if you don't know the meaning think about it. I drank some Green Beer last night. It was really unusual looking cause the beer looked Neon Green under the black lights. I asked the bartender what he had on special, and he said 'green-beer is the cheapest'...I didn't realize that it was actually going to be Green beer. It occured to me later that it was probably just regular beer dyed in honour of St. Patty's day and that turned out to be the case. I also had a Guiness's figuring that that was probably the closest I could get to Irish beer. I had to limit myself though cause they were a little steep at $10 each and I'm not really a huge fan. As far as pictures go, I'll eventually get some pictures on this web site but I have to get through a roll of film first. I had one about half way done, but I bought a new disposable camea in Japan. So now I've got two half-way through. My pictures are pretty boring though...since I spend most of my time walking around by myself, most of the pictures are of scenery...nice scenery though, if you like that sort of thing...lots of mountains...I really like mountains. I found a Kim-bap restaurant near my apartment...actually I went in yesterday and ordered entirely in Korean. Not that there was a lot fo conversation but I managed to say hello and tell her what I wanted and I understood the price she quoted me. I haven't really been working on learning the language, so I don't think I'm going to make my 3 month fluency goal. But then again, I've still got a month and a half. Also, I finally broke down and got a hair cut yesterday. I just wandered into the "Nice Guy" hair salon beside my apartment, sat down, she said, "short?"...I nodded and sat there in silence for the next half hour. Not too bad I guess, a little shorter than I would like but not bad considering considering the language barrier. If you didn't notice, I changed the name of this entry to 'the Gibby Gazette' after a suggestion made by a buddy...thanks Keith! I'm going to bed...have a peachy day all! |
