| March 14, 2002 (cont) So anyhow at least now I've got my working visa and today I made the trip across town to apply for my "Alien Registration Card". They took fingerprints and everything. So much for the crime-spree I had planned. I had some really food "gal-bi-tang" at a restaurant in whatever area I was in. It's kind of a beef soup but it tastes better than anything similar you can find in Canada. I only mention it cause I want to be able to refer back to it later if I can't remember what it was called. This last week has been a little hecic. I wasn't at work Monday, of course, so I was a little behind. To add some more crap to the shit pot, I had to make up a bunch of tests, cause the older kids write tests every two weeks. They're easy to make up, but tedious and time consuming. It's also tough cause I never know how hard to make them... Normally tests wouldn't be a problem, but with Japan and having to spend 4 hours bussing across Seoul to get my Alien card, I left them till the last minute. Meant to finish them up last night but then went out for beers with a couple of the Korean guys that work at my school. Interesting experience cause neither of them speaks English well enough to appreciate my fascinating insights. :) Korean drinking culture is interesting because traditionally when someone invites you out for beers they usually pay for everything. I guess the next time the other guys pays. I dunno...I did my best to get them to take my money though. I'm sitting in my usual "PC Bang" right now, reflecting on what I'm gonna do this weekend. I went up to a couple of gyms two nights ago cause I now have the money to join. Still no bank account cause I need my alien card first, but I've got a whole lot of cash just burning a hole in my pocket. While up at a gym, another teacher and I met a foreign girl working out and since there was no one in the gym that spoke English, she showed us around. Turns out she's from the great city of Winnipeg and she lives in my building. I had heard about her...I guess it wasn't a myth after all. She told me about some places that she had heard of in our area that are popular hang outs for foreigners. There must be a lot of foreign teachers in this area cause I've seen at least 30 english "hagwons"(private schools) in Ilsan. Then tonight, on my way over to the "PC Bang", I ran into a couple of foreign teachers, in the elevator of my building, from South Africa. They asked me if I wanted to go out for beers tomorrow and then check out this place the girl was telling me about. She must work with them cause one of the guys has only been in Seoul for a week. Sounds like a decent plan...then again, any excuse to quaff some fine Korean ale sounds good to me. That's about it for today...gonna run and see what's on the late night movies...I saw Ghostbusters last week and was humming the annoying tune all week..."who ya gonna call?" PS. Whomever keeps leaving goofy messages in my guest book pretending to be some Korean girl that I duped and then never called again, cut it out...I'm not posting em...did make me laugh though. |
