| July 14, 2002 Another Sunday of sitting around being lazy. Isn't that just the life? Looking at the calender it's coming up on 6 months soon. So, I'm thinking that it's probably time for me to wash my Apartment floor for the second time. It's also coming up on my schools Intensive session. It starts in a week. It isn't going to be fun working from 9am to 9pm. Probably pretty stressful, but I suppose the paycheque will be nice when it's over. It lasts four weeks. On a positive note, Wednesday is a holiday this week. I bought a VCR yesterday off of a teacher in my building who's finished his contract and is heading back to England. Paid him $60 for it, seems like a decent deal cause it's not very old. When I went to pick it up, his girlfriend threw in some cigars and some Korean porn. Not sure what I'm going to do with it. The porn that is, maybe give it to a guy I know who's a porn freak. I'm a little annoyed that the remote control doesn't work. Although I guess it's not the end of the world. Pretty sure I can pick one up cheap. I forgot to mention my experience at a Korean motel two weeks ago. Before I left for Daegu, I had to go down to the Express bus terminal in Seoul to get a ticket. I didn't want to come all the way back home cause the bus was leaving the next morning so I figured I'd find a motel nearby. Most motels in Korea aren't more than $35. I wandered around the area for awhile, but I couldn't find a motel. I talked to some Korean guy on the street and he told me to take a taxi to another nearby area. I followed his advice and wandered around that area and came upon a motel. I went in and asked lady at the desk if she had a room. She said yes. I asked how much it was and she said $60. I told her that it was expensive and asked her if she had a cheaper one and she pretended that she didn't understand me. Although I've asked other Koreans and they understood me. Anyways, I didn't feel like arguing or wandering the streets anymore so I told her I'd take it. Now I probably should have guessed from the look of the motel that there was somthing strange about it. The windows to the entry were blackened out and there was a sign over the entry that said something in Korean and then '19'. When I got to my room. The penthouse suite no less(explaining why it was expensive) it was basically a place that most likely usually gets rented by the hour. The whole place was pink and frilly including the vibrating bed. Mirrors everywhere, a VCR and about 80 porn videos to choose from, condoms, spermicide, I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture. I nearly fell over laughing. I had my camera, I don't know why I didn't take any pictures. Last night, we took another stroll through the red-light district. I was out with Soo and I figured Bret would get a kick out of it. I think it's incredibly entertaining to see women standing in doorways crying out to you. And no, we didn't answer their pleas. Went into Itaewon after that but there wasn't much going on so took a cab back to Hongdae. It was at a bar in Hongdae that I figured I'd have some fun with Bret. We were at a bar where you can write down requests for the DJ at the bar and give them to the bartender. So when Bret wanted to hear a song, I told him I'd write down the request in Korean for him. Of course what I actually wrote down was, "You're cute", "Do you have a boyfriend?" So up he went to the cute little Korean bartender with the note in his hand. She looked at it, smiled and said, "No". He repeated back to her in Korean, "You don't have?" and she nodded. So when he turned to me and said, "Didn't we hear that song last time we were here?" I had to let him in on my joke. Maybe you had to be there but I thought it was pretty funny. Actually she had a quirky smile on her face. I think that if he had asked her for her number she'd have given it to him. The last couple weeks have more of the same. I didn't get home till 10:30 this morning cause I fell asleep on the subway and ended up at the wrong end of the subway line. Took me an hour to get back to the right end and then another hour to get home from there. All in all, it was a 4 hour trip home. Although I slept most of the way so it wasn't too bad. It's funny how I don't think twice about travelling an hour and a half to meet someone. Back in Winnipeg it would have to be a pretty special occasion for me to travel an hour to go somewhere. Here I don't even think twice about it. I just hop on the bus and go. It's funny how that works, I wonder if when I get home I'll revert back to my old ways. That's enough for today. I think I'm gonna see if I have the energy to make it to Wal-mart to pick-up some crap today. Maybe I'll add another album to my photo page....stay tuned. |
