Burman Skrable's July 28, 1997 letter, "Why should society weaken its claim on its future?" argues that society weakens its claim to the future when it embraces homosexual marriage. He states the "sexual revolution has unraveled most of the marriage fabric through divorce, open marriage, contraception and acceptance of nonmarital sex."
Mr. Skrable attacks homosexuals for being part of some sexual revolution, but he does nothing to promote monogamy. Instead, he blames homosexuals for the social ills and failures of what heterosexuals have done all by themselves: marginalizing the importance of marriage. The fact that gay people want permanence, sexual and romantic exclusiveness and a connection betewen sex and commitment should come as a surprise to no one. |
