Alternatives to the Flower Girl Basket
  • Kissing Balls/Pomanders: This is a round ball of flowers carried by the ribbon to which it is attached. These tend to be somewhat heavy so make sure your flower girls is old enough/strong enough to carry it
  • Bells: In Irish culture, bells are rung to ward off evil spirits, remind the couple of their wedding vows, and create peace between a fighting couple. Have the little girl(s) ring a bell as she walks down the aisle to signal the entrance of the bride
  • Wands: What little girl wouldn't want to be a fairy princess? Plus this idea wouldn't be a rish for potential noise during the ceremony, and the little girl(s) could play with it for time to come after the wedding.
  • Bubbles: have a nice, enchanting effect. The only drawback is that they could spill and stain the girls' dress
  • Wreath: The girls could carry round or heart shaped wreaths for a unique touch
  • Galvanized Buckets:  These are gaining in popularity as centerpieces, pew markers, and would be a nice touch for the flower girl to carry for a summer wedding. Fill them with flower pettles, stones, apples, etc. for the flower girl to toss as she walks down the aisle
  • Lantern: Talk about a mood setter- having the little girl carry a lantern down the aisle would add so much to the ambience. However, lanterns should only be carried by older flower girls
  • Wagon: For a youthful touch, have the flower girl pull a wagon filled with flower petals, potted flowers, another smaller child, etc. Leave it plain or decorate it with flowers and tulle
