Part 8:
(Kananno looks in wonder at Koemi as she hands him her chip)
Kananno: How’d you manage to save that? The guards should’ve taken
it!
Koemi: (winks) I have my ways...
(Rei laughs)
Kananno: I’m not sure if i want to know what those ways are, but you
could very well have just saved our lives with them!
Rei: I was on m way to tell you two that your HDU’s were broken.
You grabbed them off of the repair table, and they would’ve only lasted
an hour at the most (she pauses) but you know that now. Ahyway, i
was going through the ghetto section when a little boy walked out in front
of my scooter. I stopped so i wouldnt’ hit him and he hissed at me
then ran down the street. I was wondering what that was all about
when i saw him again. He looked so sad and lost, i was going to help
him find his way home, when two of those (she points towards the cell door)
THINGS grabbed me and dragged me down here, talking about sacrifices the
whole time.
Koemi: But you’re ok right?
Rei: As far as i can tell...
Kananno: OUCH! (he jumps up and holds his hand) That hurt!!! OW OW
OW OW OWWWWW!
Koemi: (concerned) What happened?
Kananno: (he shakes his hand trying to cool it) I burnt my hand!! I
forgot that you have to connect the positive to negative ends! (he kisses
his hand gently) What’s wrong with Rei?
Koemi: What are you talking about?
(Kananno gestures towards Rei and Koemi turns to see Rei unconscious
and blood dripping from her neck)
Koemi: Damnit! She must’ve been bitten!
Kananno: I hope you have some antidote!
Koemi: I did.... but the guard has it
Kananno: How long do you think we have until she wakes up?
Koemi: i don’t know. Rei’s strong, hopefully she can fight it...
Kananno: But if she can’t?
Koemi: We’ll most likely die.
Kananno: I thought you were supposed to be the optomist.
Koemi: Shut up.
Kananno: (working on his thing again) Ko?
Koemi: Yeah?
Kananno: If we don’t make it out of here, there’s something i want
you to know...
Koemi: What is it?
Kananno: Well.... I... (takes a deep breath)
Koemi: Just say it, Kan!
Kananno: Wait! (puts down the thing he’s working on and turns to Koemi)
We’re most likely not going to get out of this one right?
Koemi: Right...
Kananno: And when you know you’re going to die you should not think
and just do whatever you’re thinking because you’re not going to have another
chance, right?
Koemi: Right... but where are you going with this?
(Kananno leans over and kisses Koemi gently on the lips)
Kananno: (softly) I love you, Koei.
Koemi: Kan....
Kananno: Shh... (he kisses her again) I’ve been in love with you since
we first met... before the time when you were changed into a vampire...
ever since i can remember.
Koemi: Kan...
(Kananno puts up a hand to silence her) I don’t care if you don’t feel
the same way, i just needed to get that off my chest... before we die.
Koemi: KAN! Look out!
(Kananno turns and sees the very conscious figure of Rei leaping towards
him and snarling)
