Part 3:
(The disc catches the creature in the throat and it stumbles backwards, but doesn't fall over. An ebony liquid begins to pour from the neck wound)
Kananno: Oh god… (He sidles up to Koemi, and grabs her shoulders) Run…
Koemi: Don't be silly… (She runs over to a window and rips off one of the pieces of board and snaps it in half. There is a long pointed edge, which she aims towards the Vampire.) Look out.
Kananno: (Backing against the far wall) Be careful, Ko…
(She leaps onto the Vampire in front of her, driving the stake deep into its heart, just as another one bursts through the wall Kananno is leaning against. The creature wraps its arms around his chest and neck and starts to pull him through the hole. Kicking fiercely, Kananno manages to kick a piece of wood down from the busted wall. Struggling to keep the Vampire's teeth away from his neck, he strains to grab the sharp stake a few inches out of reach. Outside, he can hear Koemi screaming his name, but can't answer her. Gasping for breath, he manages to catch the stake and sticks it in the creature's eye.
It screams and falls down the stairs that lead to the cellar.  Kan falls onto his back, gasping and coughing.)
Koemi: (Racing to the hole) Kan! Kan! Are you ok? (She is splattered with black fluid, and is out of breath.) I got two of them.
Kananno: (Struggling to his knees) Very… proud.
Koemi: Is that the cellar.
Kananno: I think so. Mine got away… He's down there.
Koemi: I was beeped. We have to get back to Headquarters.
Kananno: We have to kill these things first!
Koemi: The sun's coming up… We'll come back tonight with back up. Kan, we can't do this by ourselves, there are too many of them. And these Vampires are acting strange. They're not the usual zombie-slaves we deal with… For crying out loud, it pulled you through the wall!
Kananno: (Rubbing the already deep bruises on his throat) Ok… I'm coming. What about the scooter?
Koemi: Don't worry about it. Rei's sending a Teleport Transport Unit.
Kananno: (Almost to himself) I hate TTU's.
(Koemi hands him a small clip and both of them clip one onto their shirts, then she holds a calculator-looking contraption and presses in a number. With in the blink of an eye, they find themselves standing in the middle GH headquarters.
Rei: What took you so long?
Kananno: Just ran into a little trouble.
Loki: (Running up from behind Rei, and throwing her arms around Kan's neck.) You poor thing! Are you ok? What happened to you neck? Doesn't Koemi take care of you?
Kananno: (Embarrassed by the open concern) Hee… I'm ok. I just ran into a little trouble.. Thanks.
Loki: (still gushing) You poor baby. Need a drink? Water? A cold glass of water?
Kananno: That'd be nice. Thank you.
(Loki runs off to get him some water, and Rei and Koemi just look at each other a make a face)
Koemi: (To Kananno) Doesn't that just disgust you?
Kananno: What?
Rei: The way she swoons all over you! It's just disgusting!
Kananno: (Generally confused) Swoons? What are you talking about? She's just concerned.
Rei: I didn't see her offering Ko anything
Koemi: Yeah!
Kananno: (shrugging) She's not hurt. Loki's just trying to be nice…
Rei: It's sickening!
Koemi: Terribly.
(Loki comes back with a glass of cold water, but is immediately called away again.)
Rei: Anyway… Gonjen needs the two of you in his lab. Immediately.
Koemi: Is that what this whole rush-us-back job is for? What's going on?
Rei: I'm not sure… I just know he needed you two back right away. I gotta go. You better see him.
Koemi: (Turning to Kananno) What do you think this whole thing is about? (They are making their way through jammed and crowded hallways to an elevator.)
Kananno: I've no idea. Maybe about your scooter? This is the third time it's broken down with in a month, you know. You keep saying you've gotten it fixed, and every time-
Koemi: Oh, you just hate TTU's.
Kananno: (Indignantly) Yes, I do.
(They've approached a tube-like elevator, and Koemi presses on of the zillion buttons on it. It slides open and allows them to step in, then slides shut. With in seconds, it's opening again, and letting them out on a deserted hallway lined with doors. They walk down the hallway to the last door.)
Kananno: (Holding the door open) After you.
(The two enter a laboratory, and an old man standing behind the counter. He looks up and but doesn't smile)
Gonjen: Come in, come in. Koemi, Kananno… I need to show you something.
Koemi: Did you invent something you want us to try out?
Kananno: (excitedly) Another prototype gun? That was fun last time!
Koemi: Till you blew up the cruiser…
(Kananno elbows her in the side hard, as Gonjen suddenly looks up at the two of them, suspicious. When neither of them say anything more, he turns back towards the computer and starts to type. Kananno casts a narrow look at Koemi, who sticks her tongue out.)
Gonjen: We were watching your struggles on the Holomonitor. Did you notice anything out of the ordinary about those Vampires?
Koemi: Yeah.. They were smarter… Almost like they were thinking, rather than just acting.
Gonjen: Yes. No more lunging at the first smell of blood. No more being driven by just the sense of being hungry. Nice observation.
Kananno: So what's this mean?  They're gaining intelligence?
Gonjen: They're becoming better tactical masters than I. They're also gaining strength… You're lucky you transported out of their when you did. There were about forty of them heading up the stairs after you. You would have been torn apart. Literally….
