From The Ashes Of Vesuvius - 2002![]()
As the driving force behind Ghosts Of Pompeii I strive to expand the boundaries of progressive rock. With each new album I mutate and morph musical genres like some demented chef, tossing exotic ingredients into a food processor to create a tasty concoction. Some recipes go down like sweet nectar; other bittersweet combinations are for discriminating tastes and need to be savored a bit longer before the true flavor washes over your taste buds. And occasionally, evil genius possesses my soul, and I devise a toxic formula intended to dissolve the palate just to get your attention. The seventh Ghosts Of Pompeii CD From The Ashes Of Vesuvius, incorporates old school progressive rock, World music, acid jazz, new age ambience, and hard driving electronics. Great attention is paid to solid production values and complex layered arrangements. A home studio recording has never sounded better. Proving again, through perseverance and commitment to excellence, an independent musician can produce brilliance on a budget. From The Ashes Of Vesuvius was an enjoyable recording experience. Humor is interwoven among the serious compositions; dismissing the notion that prog/rock is the pompous cousin of rock & roll. Introducing The Velveetatones is a cheesy 1940s a cappella scat number performed by the Roland ensemble. Living In The House Of Funkenstein is as close as Ill ever come to house music, and a tribute to George Clinton of the 70s over-the-edge Funk group Parliament. Just Happy To Be Alive evokes images of The Tijuana Brass performing at the Star Wars cantina. Le Garage Symphonique is a bare bones jam between virtual guitar, bass and drums. Memories Of A Mechanical Man is a chatty blend of electronics and Industrial noise. But the core of the album is a collection of tightly constructed prog/rock numbers that Ghosts fans have come to expect. From The Ashes Of Vesuvius is an adventurous tour de force performance of musical diversity and imagery. |
