| On a cold January day an unsuspecting family went out to the stream in search of firewood.There was heavy snow on the ground and the family had drove their car mistakeably into a deep rut hidden by the snow. The father and the eldest child got out to heave the car out ,but it wouldn't budge.They tried for a good forty five minutes until the father decided to go get help at the nearest house.So he walked across the fields and onto the gravel road.The three were left alone and the mother was trying to keep the baby from qwacking while the oldest child was helping entertain the baby.The child looked out the window and said to her mother that pa was back,but when the mother looked back there was nothing but what seemed to be a tall burnt stump away in the distance.The child tried to explain that the stump was not a stump,but the mother did not listen.She looked back and said to the child it is cole black and not moving at all.The child gave up and continued to stare at it convinced that it was not a stump.It was getting dark and the father had not return with help.And the child and mother were playing with the baby yet the mother was getting worried about him.And suddenly the child got a strange feeling as if somthing was wrong.She turned round to look at the stump but when she did the thing that appeared to be a stump had vanished into thin air.The child said "ma you know that stump that we saw earlier,well it's gone.The mother looked back and the same thing she had seen before actually was gone.With no gun for protection the mother got scared and began to cry in fear of their lives.The child having seein this got scared as well.The mother started hollaring for the father but there was no answer.The mother started panicking it was getting dark fast then she suggested that they walk out of there.They were still scared so the child thought of somthing and started digging through the glove box and floor board.She pulled out a knife and a sharp carving tool which was their only defance.As they walked the child started bellowing so loud that it sent an echo through the whole of the woods.The baby was even crying for the father. After a while the father heard the bellows of the child and came running up the road as fast as he could.As soon as they reached him the baby started crying and whining.He told them that there was no one home on the whole road.The mother started to explain to him why they were walking on the road and what they had seen.He believed it but,they still didn't know what it was.Just then by a miracle a truck came pulling up into a yard,The man gave them a lift to their car and toed it out of the rut.They thanked him and headed home.When they got home the mother drew a picture of what the thing had looked like.Determined to find out what it was they went back to the stream to see if there were any footprints in the snow.They didn't drive off into the snow this time and walked to the place it was at, but when they got there there was no sign of footprints or endentians in the snow.No trace of anything that had been there at all.So to this day no one has found what that mysterious thing was and whose to say they ever will.
