THETA GALAXY
OVERVIEW
Through lucky circumstances, over the past
century or so the Clusters of Theta have served primarily as defenders of Ghost
Bear technical and manufacturing facilities, both in Clan space and more
recently in the Inner Sphere. These postings have granted them unprecendented
access to BattleMechs and other materiel compared to most garrison forces, as
they are so often close to the source. Theta Galaxy technicians have gained a
reputation as some of the best in the Clan when operating on new machines such
as the Ursus, often lending a hand to service machines of front-line
troops visiting their worlds.
The Galaxy insignia is the Clan Ghost Bear logo rendered in black, with the Greek letter Theta superimpossed over it.
OFFICERS
Galaxy Commander Gerrard Hambash is a harsh, sometimes brutal, leader who
expects as much from his troops as he does for himself. As a Clawed MechWarrior,
his expectations run high. Most of his troops respect him, or fear him enough
that it amounts to the same thing. His aide is an unassuming aerospace pilot
named Madnrake who always seems to appear at Gerrard's right hand when needed.
TACTICS
After a long history of defending static installations, Theta has gained
skill at such operations at the expense of offensive tactics. The Khans do not
see this as a serious weakness, as the purpose of the Galaxy is purely
defensive. Of particular note is Galaxy Commander Hambash's favorite tactic,
which he calls "smash and grab". Against a quickly approaching enemy,
he holds back the bulk of his forces, harassing the enemy with his forward
elements. This often lulls the enemy into a false sense of security, as they are
allowed to enter the target area largely unopposed. Just as the enemy is
prepared to claim victory, Theta's forces appear from all directions and descend
on the unsuspecting targets, using their superior knowledge of the target area
to emerge from concealed positions. Theta has only recently acquired armor
support in the form of the Seventh Phalanx, and the Galaxy Commander has yet to
figure out exactly what to do with that unit.
3rd Bear Regulars
5 Trinaries/Veteran/Reliable
CO: Galaxy Commander Gerrard Hambash
Aide: Star Captain Mandrake
Like most Bear Regulars units, the Third is equipped with more than its share of heavy and assault machines, and a resepectable amount of Elemental support. Always led personally by the Galaxy commander, this Cluster is the only one in Theta that displays any ability in offensive operations.
Last Known Location: Casere
17th Provisional Garrison Cluster
5 Trinaries/Veteran/Fanatical
CO: Star Colonel Marisa Hakimi
The redoubtable Seventeenth PGC forms the backbone of Theta Galaxy, with its strong contingent of medium 'Mechs and aerospace fighters. Star Colonel Hakimi sees no shame in serving as a garrison commander, and leads her troops with skill from the cockpit of her captured Diamond Shark Thresher.
Last Known Location: Marawi
30th Provisional Garrison Cluster
5 Trinaries/Regular/Questionable
CO: Star Colonel Esau
A large number of the warriors in this Cluster, including Star Colonel Esau, still cling to the Crusader philosophy of conquest. For this reason, they have been posted on Marawi along with Marisa Hakimi's more reliable Seventeenth. However, this plan may backfire as friction between the Wardens and Crusaders on the planet has begun to escalate in the wake of the Great Refusal.
Last Known Location: Marawi
7th Phalanx
5 Trinaries/Regular/Reliable
CO: Star Colonel Russell
The Seventh is posted on Casere with Galaxy Commander Hambash's Third Bear Regulars because the Galaxy Commander does not know what else to do with them. Star Colonel Russell has tried valiantly to cross-train with the MechWarriors of the Third, but so far that unit's distaste for the Seventh's contingent of armored vehicles has driven a wedge between them.
