Good afternoon all. I wanted to write this article not so much to pick on anyone, but to help bring you all to a understanding of yourself, and your fellow man and woman. My title today is Lazy Christians, what images come to your mind when I say that? Some fat guy on the couch with a cross around his neck? That's the image I get from time to time. But seriously, my definition of a lazy Christian is someone who comes to church, sits in the pew for an hour and goes home thinking that he/she has done some sort of favor for somebody by coming to church. The type of person who says they will come and support a group or a church fundraiser and doesn't show up, or worse, shows up and does nothing. Someone who looks the part, but doesn't live the part. Do you know any of these people? Have I offended you because YOU are one of these people? Now I hear you all talking, well I believe in Jesus and that's all I need to get into Heaven. Well, yes, if you believe that Jesus is Lord, that He died for your sins and that He is the Son Of God, yes that is the requirement to get your mansion built for you in Heaven. I ask you this though. Jesus said that the greatest commandment was to love God with ALL your heart, ALL your strength, ALL your mind, and ALL of your soul. Are you obeying that commandment when you are asked to come help serve the homeless and you say you are too busy and then go to a ball game instead? Are you obeying that commandment when you skip church to go to the beach, Carowinds, mow the lawn, or wash the car? Now I know I have stepped on some toes by saying this, but it is true. You are serving yourself when you take time away from God. Now even God took a day off to rest. I'm not saying that recreation is bad, it's great. I enjoy recreation as much, if not more than most. God provides for rest and relaxation. He also frees you up when He wants time with you. All you have to do is stop and listen and ask Him what He wants from you. Joyful obedience takes over your laziness. God doesn't want you to drive yourself mad by being on every committee at church and participate in every little thing. He just wants you to do what He tells you. Nothing more, nothing less. He knows we are going to fall short now and then, He's God, He knows we're human. But I believe He wants us to try as hard as we can. So this is the call, get up, put the remote down, get on your knees and ask God what He wants from you. Then wait, and listen. Then the rest is easy, get up and do it!!! Thanks for listening.
