What My Heart Says

Prologue

19-year-old Elizabeth Webber, multi-album recording artist, stepped off her tour bus in Port Charles, New York.

“Lonnie, I’m going to take a look around town,” Elizabeth called to her bodyguard.

“Take someone with you,” Lonnie replied.

“Fine, but they have to keep a decent distance,” Elizabeth said. “I hate to be crowded.”

“All right,” Lonnie said. “But be back here soon. It’s going to get dark soon, and while we don’t know a lot about this town, I’ve heard some interesting stories.”

“Lonnie, my father lives here,” Elizabeth said. “My mom told me that much before she died. Now all I have to do is find him before we have to leave.”

“All right,” Lonnie said. “Just be careful.”

Elizabeth nodded and headed away from her bus, her bodyguard keeping an inconspicuous distance behind her.

Meanwhile, on the docks…

“What do you mean I have a sister?” Sonny Corinthos asked his father.

“I’m sorry I’ve never told you, but when she was born her mother made sure that I knew that they wanted nothing to do with me,” Mike Corbin said.

“Then why does any of this matter now?” Sonny asked.

“Her mother’s dead,” Mike said. “And she told me that when she died she was going to tell our daughter about me so that she’d still have family.”

“Well then who is this girl?” Sonny asked.

“I don’t know,” Mike said. “But I promise you, when I find her I will tell you everything.”

Sonny mumbled something and walked off the docks.

Chapter 1

Later that afternoon…

Sonny entered Kelly’s hoping to find Mike. Instead, he saw his partner and friend, Jason Morgan sitting at the counter.

“We own a coffee warehouse and you get your coffee from the local diner?” Sonny said, approaching Jason.

“Sonny, what are you doing here?” Jason asked.

“I was looking for Mike,” Sonny said.

“Didn’t you just see him?” Jason asked.

“Yes, but I was hoping for some details from him so that I could track someone down,” Sonny replied.

“Who?” Jason asked.

“My sister,” Sonny said.

Sonny explained to Jason as much as Mike had told him earlier and asked him for his help.

“I’ll do whatever I can,” Jason said.

“Thanks Jason,” Sonny replied, heading for the door. “And let me know if you find anything. No matter how small or insignificant you may think it is.”

“I will,” Jason said.

“Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!” Emily Quartermaine said, running into Kelly’s, straight into her brother Jason, as Sonny walked out.

“It’s nice to run into you, Em,” Jason said with a smile. “You okay?”

“Yeah, yeah. I just saw Ned and he told me that Elizabeth is in town. I can’t believe it. I mean, Elizabeth, here, in Port Charles,” Emily exclaimed, speaking rapidly.

“Slow down,” Jason said, placing his hands on his sister’s shoulders. “Who’s Elizabeth?”

“You don’t know who Elizabeth is?” Emily asked. Jason nodded, still confused. “She’s a singer. She’s got two albums and she’s recording a third. Ned met with her a few months ago. I’m sure you heard about it. Your warehouse guys love her.”

“Oh,” Jason said.

“Anyway,” Emily said, realizing that she was getting nowhere with her explanation. “She’s here in Port Charles.”

“Mm hmm,” Jason said with a smile. He was glad his sister was excited. It had been a while since he’d last seen her genuinely smile.

“Okay, I know you don’t care,” Emily said.

“No, no,” Jason said. “I’m glad to see you’re excited. It’s nice to see that smile again.”

“Thanks,” Emily said.

“I should go,” Jason said. “I’ve got a lot of paperwork to do at the warehouse.”

“I’ll see you later,” Emily said.

“Sure,” Jason replied.

Jason hugged his sister and left Kelly’s for the Corinthos-Morgan Coffee Warehouse.

On the docks…

Elizabeth was sitting on the docks, her feet in the water, writing lyrics to a new song and occasionally humming a tune to herself.

Jason was crossing the docks and saw a young gentleman standing out of sight near a building. Looking further, he saw a young woman sitting by the water. In Jason’s line of work, the scene looked suspicious so he jumped immediately into action.

“You got business here?” Jason asked the gentleman.

The young man turned around, clearly startled, and stumbled over his own feet.

Hearing the noise, Elizabeth hurried to where she knew her bodyguard was watching her.

“Mark, are you alright?” Liz asked, offering her hand to him. She then followed Mark’s gaze and turned towards Jason. “Who are you?”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know he was with you. I must’ve understood,” Jason said. “I’m Jason Morgan.”

“Elizabeth Corinthos,” she said, taking Jason’s outstretched hand in her own.

Chapter 2

Jason’s jaw dropped and he started at Elizabeth in disbelief.

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Elizabeth said. “My mother told me that name meant something here. Plus you probably weren’t expecting it from me. You might know me better just as Elizabeth.” Elizabeth continued to babble, nervously. “Wait a minute, did you say Morgan?”

Jason nodded and released Elizabeth’s hand.

“So you know Mike Corbin and his son, Michael. I mean, Sonny,” Elizabeth said.

“Yeah, Sonny’s my partner and I know Mike,” Jason replied.

“Well this just seems to be my lucky day,” Elizabeth said. “Could we sit and talk?”

“Sure,” Jason said.

“Mark, I’ll be fine here. You can head back to the bus. I’ll be there as soon as I can,” Elizabeth said.

Mark knew that Lonnie would be upset with him if he left Elizabeth with this stranger, but Elizabeth was the one who signed his paycheck so Mark decided it would be safe to comply with Elizabeth’s request. He walked off the docks in the direction of Elizabeth’s bus and Elizabeth kneeled beside her things to gather them up.

“Do you need a hand?” Jason asked.

“No, I’ve got it,” Elizabeth said, putting her notebook in her bag.

“I’m sorry if I interrupted something earlier,” Jason said.

“No, I was just banging out some new lyrics,” Elizabeth said.

“Lyrics for what?” Jason asked.

Elizabeth laughed for a minute, but when she saw Jason’s face, she realized he was serious.

“You have no idea who I am, do you?” Elizabeth asked. “Well that’s a first in a long time.”

“Wait, my sister was just talking about you,” Jason said. “You’re a singer, right?”

“Yes,” Elizabeth said. “You know it’s kinda’ nice that you didn’t know me. I don’t get that a lot. Most people want something from me. You seem to be genuinely nice to me with no hidden agenda or expectations.”

“I don’t use people,” Jason said. “Or manipulate people. I can stand to see people do that to each other. My family does that to everyone, including each other. It drives me crazy.”

“Good to know,” Elizabeth said. “So can we talk?”

“Yeah. You want to talk here?” Jason asked.

“Well I don’t know my way around,” Elizabeth said. “I found this place by accident.”

“So you like the docks?” Jason asked.

“It’s nice. I found the water calming,” Elizabeth said. “It was easier to write.”

“Then I guess we should talk here,” Jason said.

With his hand on the small of her back, Jason led Elizabeth to a bench and the two sat down.

“So judging by the look on your face before, I think you want to know my relationship to Mike and Sonny and why I introduced myself as a Corinthos,” Elizabeth said.

“Only if you want to tell me,” Jason said. “I don’t want you to say anything that you’re not comfortable with.”

“No, I’m comfortable with who I am, I just didn’t know how easy it would be to find them,” Elizabeth said. “I mean they might not even know I exist.”

“Actually, I spoke to Sonny earlier and he told me about a sister, so that I assumed that you were his sister,” Jason said.

“So Sonny knows about me?” Elizabeth asked.

“Not you personally, but he knows that he has a sister,” Jason explained.

“Oh,” Elizabeth said. She took a deep breath and prepared to tell Jason her story. “For all my life, it was just me and my mom. Now it’s just me. See, my mother was very, very sick with cancer and we both knew that she was going to die. Before she did, she told me about my father and my brother. I think she struggled with making the decision to tell me, but she didn’t want me to be left with no family when she knew that one existed. Anyways, she told me that Mike was my father and that he lived here in Port Charles. She also told me about Sonny and that my last name was the same as his, Corinthos. I thought it would be Corbin, but my mother always hated that Mike abandoned her and said that my brother would take better care of me than my father.”

“Sonny will take very good care of you,” Jason said.

“Not that I need it,” Elizabeth said. “I have money and a successful career. I’ve done well for myself.”

“I’m sure you have, but a part of you is still empty without family,” Jason said. “Now the question is, do you want to meet them?”

“I’ve had family. I still do,” Elizabeth said. “My mother is gone now, but I’m always surrounded by people. I’ve got my whole entourage; my manager, my band, my dancers, my crew, and my security team. I’m never alone. And I’ve got friends too.”

“I’ve done that,” Jason said. “I’ve pushed my family away. And while I still don’t agree with everything they do, and they definitely don’t agree with everything in my life, but they’re still important to me.”

Jason proceeded to tell Elizabeth about his accident and his rebellion immediately following.

“But you’re still close with them?” Elizabeth asked.

“My sister and my grandmother especially, but they’re all still my family,” Jason said.

“So you think I should meet Sonny and Mike?” Elizabeth asked.

“You should at least give them a chance,” Jason said.

“All right,” Elizabeth said, after a short silence.

“Okay,” Jason said. “Now Sonny’s probably at his office, but Mike, I’m not really sure where he is.”

“Can I see Sonny first?” Elizabeth asked. “I think small steps would be better.”

“Whatever you want,” Jason said.

Elizabeth stood up and slipped her bag over her shoulder. Jason took her hand in his and Elizabeth intertwined their fingers. They stared at each other for a moment, surprised at the connection they both felt. When they came back to reality, they walked along the docks towards the Corinthos-Morgan Warehouse.

******

Outside the warehouse…

“I should warn you before we go inside,” Jason said. “According to my sister, a lot of the warehouse guys love you.”

“Would it be easier if they didn’t know I was there?” Elizabeth asked.

“For now, yes,” Jason replied.

“No problem,” Elizabeth said.

She dug through her bag, put on a pair of sunglasses, pulled her hair into a ponytail, and tucked it underneath her hat.

“What do you think?” she asked with a smile.

“If I didn’t know it was you,” Jason said. “I wouldn’t recognize you. Are you ready?”

“I guess,” Elizabeth said.

“Okay,” Jason said.

He took Elizabeth’s hand again and led her through the warehouse towards Sonny’s office.

“Hey Jason,” Johnny said.

“Johnny,” Jason said. “Is Sonny in his office?”

“Yeah,” Johnny replied. “Go ahead in.”

“Thanks,” Jason said. “Elizabeth, can you wait out here for a minute?”

“Sure,” Elizabeth replied.

“Johnny, keep an eye on her for me,” Jason said.

Johnny nodded and Jason disappeared inside Sonny’s office.

“So you’re Johnny?” Elizabeth asked making sure she got his name right. Johnny nodded, but said nothing. “You know, you can talk to me. I won’t bite.”

Johnny smiled.

“See, I’m not that bad. Sometimes I’m even funny,” Elizabeth said taking off her sunglasses and hat. “My name’s Elizabeth, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Oh my God!” Johnny exclaimed. “Do you know who you are?”

”Yes,” she said with a laugh. “I’m Elizabeth. And you’re Johnny.”

“You’re Elizabeth,” Johnny said. “I’m a huge fan. I love your music.”

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

“Are you doing a show here?” Johnny asked.

“That among other things,” Elizabeth replied.

******

Inside Sonny’s office…

“What’s up Jason?” Sonny asked.

“I was on my way over about an hour ago when I ran into a girl on the docks,” Jason said.

“A girl,” Sonny said.

“Well she’s Emily’s age, probably a year or so older,” Jason said. “Anyway, do you know who Elizabeth is?”

“The singer, right?” Sonny asked. “Yeah. Carly likes her. I think she also sings Michael’s favorite song. You know, the one he has to listen to before he goes to sleep.”

“I know the one. So you know who she is,” Jason said. “Well she’s the one I met on the docks and she’s also your sister.”

Sonny couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Sonny thought it would take forever to find his baby sister. But here it was, only a few hours later and his best friend was telling him that she was right outside his office.

“Sonny,” Jason said for probably the third or fourth time.

“Oh sorry,” Sonny said snapping out of his thoughts. “What were you saying?”

“Can I bring her in now?” Jason asked.

“Yes, yes. Please do,” Sonny said.

Jason stepped outside the office and looked at Elizabeth.

“Last chance to run,” Jason said. “Are you ready?”

“Yes,” Elizabeth said.

They walked the few steps to the door and Elizabeth stopped suddenly, grabbing Jason’s hand.

“What if he doesn’t like me?” she asked, nervously.

“He’ll love you,” Jason said. “I’ve known you for an hour and I think you’re great. You’ll be fine.”

Jason squeezed her hand and smiled and Elizabeth felt a reassurance rest inside her.

Taking one more deep breath, Elizabeth watched as Jason opened the door.

Seconds later she found herself staring at her older brother and not having any idea what to do next.

Chapter 3

Elizabeth felt her eyes filling with tears, but was unable to say anything. There were so many things that she wanted to say, but no words left her mouth.

Sonny was equally as frightened, but you wouldn’t have guessed it. He took a step closer to Elizabeth and pulled her into a hug. She didn’t fight him or pull away; she just tightened her arms around his waist and let herself cry.

When Elizabeth finally pulled away from Sonny, she had stopped crying.

“I’ll leave you two to talk,” Jason said heading for the door.

“Jason wait,” Elizabeth said.

Jason turned back towards Elizabeth when he heard her call his name.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

He walked back over to her and she kissed his check lightly.

“I’m glad I could help you,” Jason said. “Sonny, I’ll be in my office if you need me.”

“Sure,” Sonny said. “And thanks again, man. You have no idea what this means to me.”

“No problem, Sonny,” Jason said, before walking out of the office.

Outside, Jason turned to Johnny.

“No one goes in there now, I don’t care who it is,” Jason said.

Johnny nodded and Jason walked to his office.

******

“So tell me about yourself,” Sonny said sitting on his couch.

Elizabeth took a seat beside him and smiled.

“There’s a lot to tell,” Elizabeth said. “What do you want to know?”

“Everything,” Sonny said. “Your childhood, what your mother was like, your music.”

“My music,” Elizabeth said. “I could spend hours talking about it.”

“I could spend hours listening,” Sonny replied.

“Okay,” Elizabeth said. “I got into music as a little girl. I started by playing the piano and singing. I also took dance lessons. As I got older, I started to write music. My mom knew it was what I loved and always supported me so when I was 16 and she heard about these auditions for a girl group, she dropped everything to take me. I didn’t get into the group, but the manager saw something he loved and took me on as a solo group. He told me that I didn’t need four other girls to become a star because I could become a bigger one on my own. I started recording a few weeks later and the rest is history.”

“From what I hear you’re incredibly talented. My wife loves your music,” Sonny said. “I’d love to hear you.”

“You will soon enough,” Elizabeth said. “That’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m opening up my first big solo tour in New York.”

“The other was finding Mike,” Sonny said.

“That and do a major favor for Ned Ashton at L&B,” Elizabeth explained.

“Oh,” Sonny said.

Hours passed unknowingly and Sonny and Elizabeth talked more and more about their lives, sharing stories from childhood and beyond. They had lost all track of time until Sonny’s phone rang.

“Corinthos,” he said.

“Hey baby,” Carly said from the other line.

“Hey,” Sonny replied.

“Where are you? It’s past nine, Michael’s been in bed for hours and Mike’s been waiting for you since 8:30,” Carly said.

“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I completely forgot. We lost track of time,” Sonny said.

“Who’s we?” Carly asked.

“I’ll explain everything when I get home. I’ll be there in less than twenty minutes,” Sonny replied.

“Sure,” Carly said. “I’ll see you in a few.”

“I can’t believe we talked for so long,” Elizabeth said, looking at her watch.

“Neither can I,” Sonny said. “Look, I really have to get home. Would you like to come along? My wife would life to meet you and I think Mike would too.”

“Sure,” Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth and Sonny left the warehouse and Johnny drove them to Harborview Towers. They took the elevator to the penthouse floor and when they stopped in front of Sonny’s door, Elizabeth turned to Sonny.

“You’ll stay with me, right?” Elizabeth asked. “When I see Mike? You want leave me?”

“Of course not, Bella,” Sonny said, addressing her with the nickname he’d come up with earlier that day.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

She wrapped her arms around her brother’s neck and hugged him tightly before the two walked inside and Johnny walked back to the elevator to go downstairs to the apartment that he shared with his best friend, Francis.

******

“Carly, I’m home,” Sonny called, closing the door to his penthouse.

Carly came walking through the sitting room and gave her husband a warm kiss on the lips before turning to the young woman beside him.

“Carly, this is,” Sonny began.

“You’re Elizabeth, that singer,” Carly said to her. “I love your music. My son does too. He won’t go to sleep without hearing Hanging On For Dear Life.”

“That’s one of my favorites songs of mine too,” Elizabeth replied.

“Carly, is Mike still here?” Sonny asked.

“He’s in the kitchen,” Carly replied.

“Good,” Sonny said. “Would you bring him out here please?”

“Of course,” Carly said. She kissed Sonny again and walked into the kitchen.

“You ready?” Sonny asked.

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Elizabeth said.

Carly came back with Mike moments later and his eyes locked with Elizabeth’s. Mike knew instantly who she was and had to use all his strength to walk towards her, without letting his shock and excitement take over.

“Mike this is Elizabeth,” Sonny said.

Mike nodded and walked, slowly towards his daughter. Not wanting to frighten her, he allowed Elizabeth to make the first move, which she did when she closed the gap between them and hugged him.

They sat, much like she and Sonny had done earlier and talked. When he knew that she was comfortable, Sonny left Elizabeth with Mike and escorted Carly into the kitchen to explain everything.

While Elizabeth and Mike were talking, a small redheaded boy appeared on the stairs, rubbing his eyes.

“Mommy?” he said, softly.

“No, Michael, it’s grandpa,” Mike said. “And this is your Aunt Elizabeth.”

“Auntie Lizbeth,” Michael said. “You sing my song.”

“Yes, Michael, I sing your song,” Elizabeth said, helping the little boy as he climbed onto her lap.

“Sing now?” he asked.

“Why don’t you show me where your bedroom is?” Elizabeth suggested. “We’ll tuck you in and then I’ll sing your song.”

Michael nodded, sleepily and wrapped his arms around Elizabeth’s neck as she stood, lifting him up.

“Up the stairs, second door on the left,” Mike said. “You need a hand?”

“I’ve got him,” Elizabeth said. “I’ll be right back.”

Mike watched his daughter carry his grandson up the stairs and walked into the kitchen to tell Carly and Sonny that Michael had woken up. At the same time, Johnny opened the door to let Jason in.

“Jason, what are you doing here? Its after ten,” Sonny said when Jason walked into the kitchen.

“I know,” Jason replied. “I wanted to see how things went with Elizabeth.”

“They’re going great,” Sonny said. “She’s upstairs putting Michael back to bed.”

“Sh,” Carly said, putting a finger to her lips. “Do you hear that?”

“It’s coming from upstairs,” Jason said.

Sonny, Carly, Jason, and Mike exited the kitchen and walked quietly up the stairs to Michael’s room. The door was open and Michael was in bed. Elizabeth was sitting on the edge of the bed, singing.

A mind can sure get weary
The way things come undone
With eyes that won't see clearly
And a heart that's overrun

You keep hoping things will get better
That you'll find a way through it all
You must hold on to what you believe

When the sky's about to fall

So keep hanging on

The hands of time just keep turning around
There's no telling where you'll find the strength to climb
So just stand your ground

All through the night
'Til you can see the light
Keep hanging on for dear life

A spirit can get battered
As you journey down the years
And if dreams were all that mattered
You'd be miles away from here

Just keep thinking things will be different
That you'll find a place in the sun
Hold your head up high in that stormy sky

And the change will surely come

So keep hanging on

The hands of time just keep turning around
There's no telling where you'll find the strength to climb
So just stand your ground

All through the night
'Til you can see the light
Keep hanging on for dear life

Never you mind what you've been told
Someday you'll have all the love one heart can hold

So keep hanging on

The hands of time just keep turning around
There's no telling where you'll find the strength to climb
So just stand your ground

All through the night
'Til you can see the light
Keep hanging on for dear life

As Michael drifted off to sleep to the sound of Elizabeth’s voice, the four adults gathered outside the little boy’s door, listened in awe.

“She’s amazing,” Jason whispered.

Carly was smiling with tears in her eyes, as Mike’s eyes filled up and Sonny wiped a single tear away.

“That’s my baby girl singing,” Mike said.

“That’s my baby sister,” Sonny said.

Chapter 4

When Elizabeth was finished and she was sure that Michael was asleep, she quietly walked to the bedroom door, closing it behind her as she left.

“Thank you,” Sonny said.

“No problem,” Elizabeth replied. “He’s such a sweet kid.”

“He’s the best,” Carly replied.

“You have an amazing voice,” Jason finally said when no one had mentioned it.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

“The voice of an angel,” Mike said.

“Well I wouldn’t go that far,” Elizabeth said.

“Are you kidding?” Carly said. “You have a beautiful talent. You’re very lucky. I wish I could sing like that.”

Elizabeth smiled and replied, “I’m just doing what I love.”

“You definitely seem happy,” Sonny said.

“I am,” Elizabeth said, glancing at her watch. “Oh, and I’m late. Audrey is gonna kill me.”

“Whose Audrey?” Sonny asked.

“She’s a woman that my mother used to know. She’s like a grandmother to me,” Elizabeth said. “She’s been on the road with me since my mom was too sick to go.”

“And she’s expecting you?” Mike asked.

“She always does,” Elizabeth said. “See I have a tendency when I’m in a new town, to wander off and explore or whatever and I always lose track of time or my guards and she hates when I’m alone and she hates it even more when I’m alone and late.”

“I could give you a ride back,” Jason offered.

“That would be great, Jason. Thank you so much,” Elizabeth said.

“Elizabeth, I’m glad we finally got to meet,” Mike said. “I hope that we can spend more time together while you’re here.”

”I would like that very much,” Elizabeth replied, hugging her father.

“It was nice meeting you,” Carly said. “I hope that you and I can become friends.”

“We are family, Carly,” Elizabeth said. “I couldn’t ask for anything more than that.”

“Bella, I hope you know how much this day meant to me,” Sonny said.

“As much as it did to me, I hope,” Elizabeth said.

“We are very lucky to have you,” Sonny said.

“I am just as lucky,” Elizabeth said, hugging her brother tightly. “I should go.”

“Of course,” Sonny said.

He opened the penthouse door and Jason led Elizabeth out. They disappeared down the hall and Sonny smiled. He had a little sister; and despite everything he had told her about his life and what kind of man he was, she wanted to be a part of their lives.

******

On the elevator ride down to the garage, Jason turned to Elizabeth.

“You know, I don’t know what Sonny told you about us but…” Jason said.

Elizabeth interrupted. “Sonny told me everything. He didn’t want there to be any secrets between us because he thought that the secret that kept us apart for so long was enough.”

“So you know about?” Jason asked.

“The other business, yes,” Elizabeth finished.

“And it doesn’t bother you?” Jason asked.

“I don’t live my life that way,” Elizabeth said. “Your job is your business; it’s no different then what I do in the sense that I’m good at my job and I enjoy it. I’m sure it’s the same for you.”

“I guess you’re right,” Jason replied.

“I know,” Elizabeth said, as the elevator doors opened.

“I hope you don’t mind the motorcycle,” Jason said as he led Elizabeth to his bike. “It’s my favorite mode of transportation.”

“Of course I don’t mind. Actually, I miss my bike,” Elizabeth said.

“You have a motorcycle?” Jason asked, trying not to laugh.

“Why is that funny?” Elizabeth asked. “I have a Yamaha YZF R1, the newest model; it cost me a fortune. It’s my baby. Well one of them along with my Camaro, my Lexus LX 470, and my Bentley Azure.”

“You love cars, don’t you?” Jason asked, handing her a helmet.

“I have to spend my money on something,” Elizabeth said.

Jason laughed taking the keys out of his pocket. He looked at them and glanced at Elizabeth.

“Wanna drive?” Jason asked.

“I thought you’d never ask,” Elizabeth said. “But I have a feeling that I’m gonna have to beg in the future.”

“Maybe,” Jason said, with a growing smile. “Maybe not.”

He climbed on the bike as Elizabeth started it, and they rode out of the garage towards where Elizabeth’s bus was parked.

******

When Elizabeth stopped the bike near where her bus was parked surrounded by other buses and trucks carrying equipment and the set, Elizabeth reluctantly slipped off the bike and Jason slid up to the front.

“You don’t want to go, do you?” Jason asked.

“No,” Elizabeth said, softly, her voice barely audible.

“Why?” Jason asked.

“I don’t want another speech about how I shouldn’t go off by myself in a new place and how I’m not safe alone,” Elizabeth said.

“Why wouldn’t you be safe alone?” Jason asked.

“It’s a long story,” Elizabeth said.

“I’ve got time,” Jason said. “Do you want to go for a ride?”

“Yes,” Elizabeth said. She climbed on the bike behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist. They rode for what seemed to Elizabeth like forever, but when they finally stopped on the bridge she glanced at her watch and realized that it had been about forty-five minutes.

“Feel better?” Jason asked.

“Much, thank you,” Elizabeth replied.

“You know if you don’t want to tell me about why Audrey doesn’t think you’ll be safe, you don’t have to,” Jason said. “I would never push you.”

“I think you should know,” Elizabeth said. “Maybe you and Sonny could help, I don’t know.”

“Liz, are you in some kind of danger?” Jason asked, before noticing a smile form on Elizabeth’s face. “What?”

“That’s the first time you’ve said my name,” Elizabeth said.

“So it is,” Jason said. “You don’t mind if I call you Liz?”

“Not at all,” Elizabeth said. “I kinda’ like it coming from you.”

Jason smiled, but the serious look reappeared on his face when he repeated his question.

“Not necessarily danger,” Elizabeth said. “But we don’t know yet.”

“What do you mean?” Jason asked, growing more concerned.

“I met this guy a few months ago and he seemed nice enough at the time, but he turned stalker after a week,” Elizabeth said.

“What do you know about him?” Jason asked.

“His name is Lucky, I never got a last name. See, I met him at a fan event last year and he asked me out. It had been months since I’d had anything resembling a date so I figured what the hell,” Elizabeth said. “Big mistake.”

“What happened?” Jason asked.

“I went out with him once, but he just wasn’t my type. He was nothing like me. I mean other than music I like my motorcycle and adventure; he was into computers and couldn’t even stand to walk outdoors,” Elizabeth said. “Plus he was short and had terrible hair. I don’t know; I’ve always been more into the tall, dark, and handsome kind of thing.”

The more Elizabeth rambled, the more she found herself describing the tall, amazingly gorgeous man she was with. The more she tried t stop herself, the deeper she dug her hole and the redder her face got.

“Sorry, I ramble when I’m nervous,” Elizabeth said.

“You also bite your lower lip,” Jason said.

“Audrey says I do that,” Elizabeth said. “Oh shoot, Audrey. She’s going to kill me, it’s almost midnight.”

“You want to go back?” Jason asked.

“No,” Elizabeth replied. “But I should.”

“Hop on,” Jason said, handing her the helmet.

“Thanks,” Elizabeth said.

“Sure,” Jason said, revving the engine.

******

Ten minutes later, Jason pulled into the same spot they’d parked in before their ride.

“You want me to go with you?” Jason asked.

“I’ll be fine,” Elizabeth said. “I’d love to show you around, but I should get some sleep.”

“I understand,” Jason said.

“Will I see you again?” she asked, almost nervously.

“If you want,” Jason replied. “I’m sure you’ll be busy, but I’ll be around. I live across the hall from Sonny, or I’m at the warehouse, or the Quartermaine mansion every once in awhile.”

“Do you have a phone?” Elizabeth asked.

“Of course I do,” Jason said.

“And it has a number?” Elizabeth said, playfully.

“That’s very funny,” Jason said. “Very funny. You got a pen and paper?”

Elizabeth dug through her bag and pulled out a pen and her notebook.

“Here,” she said, handing it to him. He jotted some numbers down and gave it back.

“The first one’s my place, the second one’s my office, and the last one’s my cell,” Jason said. “I always answer the last one. And if you leave a message on my machine, I might not get it.”

“Is it broken?” Elizabeth asked.

“I don’t always check it,” Jason said. “Sometimes I forget I have one.”

“Sometimes I wish I didn’t,” Elizabeth said. She tore of a small piece of paper from the page in her notebook and wrote something on it. “When I’m on the rode I only carry my cell. And if you become computer-literate I wrote my e-mail address to.”

“Who said that I can’t…” Jason asked, pausing. “Sonny.”

Elizabeth smiled and Jason shook his head.

“So I’ll see you around?” Elizabeth asked.

“Sure,” Jason said.

Elizabeth smiled and hurried towards her bus. Jason watched her to make sure she got in okay and then drove off into the night back towards Harborview Towers, knowing that he would spend his night thinking about Elizabeth and wondering when he would see her again.

******

Elizabeth walked onto her bus and locked the door behind her. She was used to spending her nights sleeping on the bus instead of her bed or one in a hotel, but tonight, she knew, would be a peaceful sleep, with peaceful dreams, filled with one, Jason Morgan.

“Where the HELL have you been, young lady?” an angry voice yelled, snapping Elizabeth instantly back to reality.

Chapter 5

Hearing the voice, Elizabeth jumped back almost knocking over a table.

“Surprised to see me?” the person said.

“Lucky, what are you doing here?” Elizabeth asked, trying to keep her fear hidden.

“I came to see you, beautiful,” Lucky said.

“Lucky, you can’t be here,” Elizabeth said.

“Of course I can, Elizabeth,” Lucky said. “Now where were you and who brought you back here?”

“I just wanted to check out the town and I lost track of time,” Elizabeth said.

“You’re lying,” Lucky said, angrily, throwing Elizabeth against one side of the bus.

Elizabeth fell, hard, but knew she was better off not getting up.

“Why do you make me do these things to you Elizabeth?” Lucky said, kicking her across the back. “I love you, Elizabeth. I know you love me and I wouldn’t have to hurt you if you would just be with me.”

Elizabeth’s body jerked from Lucky's kick again, but she didn’t make a sound. Lucky hurried off her bus soon after and Elizabeth struggled to her feet. She walked, slowly to the bathroom and turned on the light. She peeled her clothes off and examined her back in the mirror. It was already beginning to turn to a bluish-purple color. By now, she’d received several assaults from Lucky. He was always forceful, but always careful. He made sure to never touch her face or a part of her body that couldn’t be covered by clothing.

She pulled an oversized tee shirt over her head to sleep in and moved to her bed. She lay down on her stomach and closed her eyes, thoughts of Jason willing her to sleep.

******

The next morning, Elizabeth awoke refreshed, her body not nearly as sore as she had expected.

She got out of bed and took a hot shower, easing what was left of the tension in her back. It was bruised considerably, but Elizabeth covered it when she dressed, wearing black pants and boots, a red tee shirt and her black leather jacket. She walked off her bus and towards the bus that Audrey was on.

“Good morning,” Elizabeth said, climbing onto the bus.

Audrey was sitting with Elizabeth’s manager, part of the security team, and some crewmembers having a late breakfast at 11:30 AM.

“Good morning, Elizabeth,” Lonnie said. “Did you have a good time last night?”

“I did,” Elizabeth said. “Mark, I trust that Lonnie didn’t fire you if you’re still sitting here.”

“I had no reason to,” Lonnie said. “Mark assured me that you were in good hands. And whose hands were they exactly?”

“I met my family yesterday,” Elizabeth said, excitedly.

“Really?” Audrey said. “That’s wonderful, dear. How were they?”

“They’re great,” Elizabeth said. “I love them.”

“I’m very happy for you, dear,” Audrey said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “Now, I’m glad that you’re all here because I wanted to mention a few things. First of all, I know I was late last night, and I’m sorry, I just lost track of time.”

“You were with your family, we understand,” Audrey said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “And also, in accordance with my brother’s request there will be two new additions to the security team starting…”

Elizabeth was interrupted by a knock on the bus’s door and she glanced at her watch.

“Ah, perfect timing. Starting now,” Elizabeth said, opening the door. Two gentlemen in suits walked on the bus and followed Elizabeth back to the kitchen area. “This is Francis and Max. They work for my brother and they will be additions to my security team. Lonnie, they answer to my brother and myself only and one or both of them will be with me at all times.”

“Elizabeth, dear, I know things have been rough but is this really necessary?” Audrey asked.

“Yes,” Elizabeth said. “Now, I hate having guards in general, but I know that I need them and I trust my brother to do what’s best for me.”

“All right then,” Audrey said. “It’s probably better that way, especially now since I have to leave.”

“What? Why?” Elizabeth said, caught completely off-guard.

“My granddaughter, Sarah, has decided to come back to the states and I’d like to spend as much time with her as I can,” Audrey said.

“I understand,” Elizabeth said. “When do you leave?”

“In a few hours,” Audrey said.

“I’d love to come with you to the airport, but I have rehearsal this afternoon,” Elizabeth said.

“Elizabeth,” her manager said. “I’m sure that if we start a little early we could end early for one day for you to bring Audrey to the airport.”

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “That would be great. Audrey, what time does your flight leave?”

“Five thirty,” Audrey replied. “I have to be there by four.”

“So we’ll just start in about an hour and finish by three and you’ll have plenty of time,” Elizabeth’s manager said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said, grabbing a bagel.

She ate a quick breakfast and went back to her bus to change for rehearsal.

******

Three hours later, Elizabeth finished her closing number and left the warehouse they were using for rehearsals. She ran to her bus to take a quick shower and dressed in a pale blue sundress that clung to her body in all the right places. Being February, Elizabeth pulled a white sweater on and pulled half her hair off her face in a clip.

“Elizabeth,” Lonnie said from outside her bus. “Are you ready? Audrey has to go.”

“I’m coming,” Elizabeth called.

She grabbed her leather jacket and pulled it on as she was walking off the bus.

She climbed into the limo with Audrey and Francis and Max and the limo drove towards the airport.

After a twenty-minute drive, the limo stopped by the terminals and Audrey, Elizabeth, Francis, and Max got out. Elizabeth and Audrey said their good-byes and Audrey got on the plane. After watching the plane take off, Elizabeth, Francis, and Max went back to the limo.

“So, Miss. Corinthos, what else do you have to do today?” Francis asked.

“First of all, please call me Elizabeth,” she replied. “And I don’t have anything I have to do, but I was hoping to go by the warehouse to see Jason and Sonny, if he’s there.”

“Sonny should be there, but Jason is probably at or going to the Quartermaine’s for dinner,” Francis said.

“Well, can we go to the warehouse and then over to the Quartermaine’s?” Elizabeth asked. “I’d love to meet Jason’s family today too.”

“Sure,” Francis said. “Max, head to the warehouse, would ya’?”

“No problem,” Max said.

“So, you and Jason seem to have hit it off,” Francis said. “Johnny mentioned it to me yesterday. He was so mad when I told him that Sonny changed my post.”

“He wanted your job, didn’t he?” Elizabeth said, with a laugh.

“Yeah, he’s a big fan. Not to say that I’m not, but Johnny can be a little much,” Francis said.

“I get that a lot,” Elizabeth said. “I’ll just make sure to say hi today. And Francis I know you have a date tomorrow night, so don’t worry about having to work to late.”

“How did you know that?” Francis asked.

“Sonny told me last night when we were setting this guarding thing up,” Elizabeth said.

“Yeah my girlfriend, Larissa and I are going on a double with Johnny and a friend of Larissa’s,” Francis said.

“Sounds interesting,” Elizabeth said. “So, if you ever need to leave early or anything, let me know. I’m a lenient boss.”

Max knocked on the divider indicating that they’d arrived at the warehouse and Francis opened the door for Elizabeth.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

“Sure,” Francis said.

******

“Oh, before we go inside, did anyone tell the warehouse guys that I’d be coming around a lot?” Elizabeth asked. “I don’t want to cause any problems or anything.”

“Sonny and Jason had a big meeting with the staff this morning so they all know,” Francis said. “Whether or not they cause a riot, I don’t know.”

“As long as they know,” Elizabeth said.

Francis and Max laughed and opened the door to go inside the warehouse.

“Johnny, how are you?” Elizabeth called, spotting Johnny standing in the middle of the warehouse.

He smiled and she walked over to him and hugged him. A few of the warehouse guys whistled, not knowing, at first, who Elizabeth was. Once one of them realized it, it spread through the warehouse like wildfire and no work was getting done. Everyone had gathered around Elizabeth and Elizabeth had kept them in order, carrying on conversations and signing autographs.

Sonny noticed from his office that the loading and unloading areas had been abandoned and walked out of his office. Elizabeth was the first to see him.

“Sonny,” she exclaimed, launching herself into his arms.

“Hi Bella,” Sonny said. “So, are Max and Francis taking good care of you?”

“The best,” Elizabeth said. “I’m glad I ran into you. Francis is taking the night off tomorrow so I was hoping that maybe you and Carly, and Mike, and maybe Jason could join me for dinner tomorrow night. Everyone’s been raving about this place called Luke’s and I would love to check it out.”

“Yeah, Luke’s is great. We used to be partners and although the business fell apart, we’re still good friends.” Sonny replied.

“What kind of business?” Elizabeth asked.

“You don’t want to know,” Johnny whispered.

“Oh,” Elizabeth said. “So, what do you think? Dinner?”

“Sounds good,” Sonny said. “I’ll just ask Leticia to stay longer.”

“Okay,” Elizabeth said. “So, how about you come by me so I can show you around at about six thirty tomorrow and we can go over to Luke’s at around seven thirty.”

“Where exactly are you staying?” Sonny asked.

“I’ve been on my bus because our floor at the Port Charles Hotel wasn’t ready,” Elizabeth said. “We’re using and old, abandoned warehouse for rehearsals and to set the stage and everything, so even though we’re checking into the hotel tomorrow afternoon, I’ll be at the warehouse rehearsing for most of the day, so if you’re interested in a tour of the place, that’s where I’ll be.”

“Six thirty?” Sonny asked.

“Yeah,” Elizabeth said.

“Okay, Carly and I will be there and I’ll talk to mike,” Sonny said. “Would you mind if he brought Tammy?”

“She’s his girlfriend, right?” Elizabeth asked.

“Yes,” Sonny replied.

“Then that’s fine,” Elizabeth said. “I’d love to meet her and since Jason should be there, there’ll be an even six of us.”

“You and Jason are pretty close, huh?” Sonny said. He didn’t want to pry, but he was curious. Thinking about his best friend and his baby sister was definitely strange, but if it had to be someone, Sonny was glad it was Jason.

“He’s a good guy,” Elizabeth said. “I don’t get a lot of them who don’t want something from me. It’s hard to know who likes you for you and who likes you for you money and fame.”

“I’m sure,” Sonny said. “Jason’s not like that though.”

“I know,” Elizabeth said.

“I really should get back to work if I want to get home before Carly blows up my kitchen,” Sonny said with a laugh. “But I will see you tomorrow.”

“I’m looking forward to it,” Elizabeth said.

She hugged Sonny again and said good-bye to the rest of the guys, making sure to say good-bye to Johnny.

She and Francis got in the limo and Max drove to the Quartermaine mansion.

“It’s already five thirty,” Elizabeth said. “Do you think I should call first?”

“I’m sure Jason would enjoy the surprise,” Francis said. “Plus, his sister’s a big fan and his grandmother, Lila, will love you.”

“Okay,” Elizabeth said as she saw the Quartermaine mansion come into view in her window.

Max stopped the limo and Francis opened the door for Elizabeth.

“Do you want us to wait?” Max asked.

“No. You guys have been great. Take the rest of the night off and I’ll see you tomorrow,” Elizabeth said.

“Sure,” Francis said.

Elizabeth walked up to the door of the mansion and Max and Francis, in the limo, drove away.

Chapter 6

Elizabeth stopped for a minute before knocking on the door. It wasn’t that she was intimidated by the size of the house or the Quartermaine name, she just hoped that they didn’t she was rude for not calling first.

After standing there for about a minute, Elizabeth rang the doorbell.

“Can I help you?” a gentleman asked, answering the door.

“Um, I’m Elizabeth,” she said. “I was looking for Jason.”

“I’m so sorry,” the gentleman said. “I know exactly who you are. I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you. I’m Reginald.”

“It’s all right,” Elizabeth said.

“Jason’s actually not here yet, and the rest of the family is running late,” Reginald said.

“Oh,” Elizabeth said.

“You could come in and wait if you’d like,” Reginald offered.

“Actually, no one knows I was coming by,” Elizabeth said. “I was just hoping to see Jason.”

“And I’m sure he’d love to see you, along with Emily and the rest of the family,” Reginald said.

“Okay then,” Elizabeth said, following Reginald inside. “This place is great.”

“I’m sure you’ve seen better,” Reginald said.

“Maybe more expensive, but that doesn’t always mean better,” Elizabeth said.

“What about your place?” Reginald asked.

“I haven’t settled down yet,” Elizabeth said. “After my mom died I was going to, but there wasn’t time. Plus I didn’t really know where I wanted to go at first. I was looking for my father and I was hoping that I would settle close to him.”

“Have you had any luck?” Reginald asked.

“Yes, I was very lucky,” Elizabeth said. “He lives here in Port Charles, along with my brother, so I think I might start looking here.”

“That’s great,” Reginald said. “Port Charles is a great place. I’m sure everyone would love to have you.”

“Thanks,” Elizabeth said as they walked through the house. “Oh, this piano is beautiful.”

Elizabeth was almost mesmerized. In front of her was a black grand piano, one of her favorites.

“It’s really just for show,” Reginald replied. “No one in the family can play. Jason Quartermaine did, but Jason Morgan can’t anymore.”

“Yeah, Jason told me about his accident,” Elizabeth said.

“Jason’s a good guy still,” Reginald said.

“I would definitely agree with you there,” Elizabeth said, running her fingers along the piano.

“Would you like to play?” Reginald asked.

“Are you sure they wouldn’t mind?” Elizabeth asked.

“Of course not,” Reginald insisted. “I think they’d love to hear music coming from it again.”

Elizabeth smiled, pulled out the bench, and sat down. Her hand grazed all the keys before she even played a note.

“Go ahead,” Reginald said.

Elizabeth began to play the first few notes of a song she’d begun to write but had yet to add words to. Once she started, she couldn’t stop and played through the whole song.

******

Outside, Alan was pulling into the drive. In the car with him were his wife, Monica, his father and mother, Edward and Lila, his daughter, Emily, and his eldest son, AJ. Behind them, on his bike, was Jason.

They family walked through the front door together, hearing beautiful music coming from the piano inside.

“Does Reginald play the piano?” AJ asked.

“No,” Alan said.

“Then who is that?” Emily asked. “It’s definitely not a recording.”

“He better not be entertaining guests again,” Edward said.

“Oh Edward,” Lila said. “Stop. It’s really lovely. I’d like to hear more so be quiet.”

Edward wheeled Lila towards the sitting room where the piano was, followed by Alan, Monica, AJ, Emily, and Jason.

“Is that?” Emily said softly when she saw Elizabeth sitting at the piano. Reginald was standing by the doors, listening intently.

“Oh my God,” Jason said.

“Elizabeth is in my house,” Emily said, softly, but excitedly.

When Elizabeth was finished, she was startled by the applause coming from behind her.

“You’re very good, young lady,” Edward said.

“Thank you, Mr. Quartermaine,” Elizabeth said. “I’m sorry if I’m intruding, but I wanted to stop by and see Jason and Reginald invited me to play. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Not at all, dear. And please, call me Edward,” Edward said. “According to my granddaughter you’re name is Elizabeth.”

“Yes, I’m Elizabeth Corinthos,” she replied. “It’s nice to meet you.”

“I didn’t know Corinthos had a daughter,” Edward said, glancing at Jason.

“He doesn’t,” Elizabeth replied.

“Well, he’s married to Carly so you can’t be his wife,” Edward said.

“I’m his sister,” Elizabeth said. “I’m Mike Corbin’s daughter.”

“Oh, well, it’s nice to meet you all the same,” Edward said.

Jason was shocked. He thought for sure that Edward would through Elizabeth out of the house, but here he was welcoming her and being more than pleasant.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “It’s nice to meet you too. So if you’re Edward, you must be Lila.”

“It’s lovely to meet you dear,” Lila replied.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “Jason’s told me all about you.”

Emily shot a look at her older brother, who still couldn’t believe that Elizabeth was there.

“So you would be Alan and Monica,” Elizabeth continued. “And you’re both doctors?”

“Yes,” they replied.

“And I’m AJ,” AJ said, offering his hand to Elizabeth.

“It’s nice to meet you,” Elizabeth said. “Are you enjoying your job at ELQ?”

“It beats coming home to no social life,” AJ replied.

“It’s got to be better than mine,” Elizabeth said with a laugh.

“Don’t bet on it,” AJ said.

“Trust me, AJ,” Elizabeth said. “I haven’t been on a date in over six months and that was the first one in like a year and a half, and then that guy turned onto a stalker.”

“Okay you beat me,” AJ said. “Your social life is worse than mine.”

“Oh thanks,” Elizabeth said, sarcastically.

“You said it not me,” AJ said.

“Now, I’m guessing you’re Emily,” Elizabeth said, turning to the smiling girl next to AJ.

Emily nodded excitedly, but couldn’t say anything.

“Emily, what’s wrong with you?” Edward said. “She’s just a girl Jason knows, not Madonna.”

AJ, Jason, and Emily all laughed and Edward looked confused.

“What?” he asked.

“Grandfather, this is Elizabeth,” Emily said. “She’s a singer. You know, the one I’m always talking about.”

“Oh,” Edward said. “Elizabeth, I had no idea. I’m so sorry.”

“There’s nothing to apologize for,” Elizabeth said. “So, Emily, it’s nice to meet you.”

“You too,” Emily said. “My cousin told me you were coming to Port Charles. I didn’t know that he meant here.”

“I haven’t even met Ned yet,” Elizabeth said. “I met Jason on the docks yesterday and he helped me find my father and my brother and I just wanted to see him again.”

“Well we were about to have dinner if you’d like to join us,” Alan offered.

“No it’s a family thing, I wouldn’t want to intrude,” Elizabeth said.

“Nonsense,” Edward said. “You’re more than welcome to join us.”

“If you’re sure you don’t mind, I’d love to stay,” Elizabeth said.

“Cook says dinner in fifteen minutes,” Reginald said.

“Thank you, Reginald,” Edward said.

“I’m gonna go call Larissa before dinner,” Emily said.

“All right,” Alan said as Emily ran up the stairs.

“Hey, Emily,” Elizabeth called. “I’ve got some free time later in the week. Do you think that maybe you and a few of your girlfriends would like to go shopping? I’d love to get to know Port Charles better and I think you and I would be great friends.”

“That sounds great,” Emily said excitedly.

“Good,” Elizabeth said. “I’ll talk to you about it when you come down.”

“Liz, can we talk outside?” Jason asked.

“Sure,” Elizabeth replied.

Jason led Elizabeth out the garden doors and closed the doors behind them.

“Is something wrong, Jason?” Elizabeth asked.

“No, I just wanted to talk to you alone,” Jason said. “I was surprised to see you.”

“I know I probably should’ve called first, but Francis told me you’d be here and I really wanted to meet everyone you were telling me about yesterday,” Elizabeth said.

“So you like Francis?” Jason said.

“He’s a nice guy,” Elizabeth said. “Max too. I like them better than my other guards. I actually don’t mind having them around.”

“Oh,” Jason said.

“And Francis seems really into his girlfriend,” Elizabeth said, seeing where Jason was going with his question. “He and Johnny are doubling tomorrow with Francis’ girlfriend and one of her friends. Speaking of tomorrow, I invited Sonny, Carly, Mike, and Tammy to Luke’s for dinner and I was wondering if you’d like to join us.”

“Well it seems like a family dinner; I’d be out of place,” Jason said.

“Where have I heard that before,” Elizabeth said. “And its not just family. Besides, I wanted you to come; that’s why I’m asking.”

“Really,” Jason said.

“Yes,” Elizabeth said, shivering a bit as the wind picked up.

“Don’t you have a jacket?” Jason asked. “It’s a little cold for just a sweater.”

“I must’ve left it in the limo this afternoon,” Elizabeth said.

“Here, take mine,” Jason said, slipping his jacket off and helping her put it on.

“Thanks,” Elizabeth said, as Jason wrapped his arms around her to keep her warmer. It hurt, but Elizabeth tried to ignore it. When Jason shifted one of his arms and tightened his hold on her, Elizabeth whimpered, her eyes filling up.

“God, I’m sorry,” Jason said, pulling back, his hands settling on Elizabeth’s hips. “Did I hurt you?”

Elizabeth blinked, some tears falling and spoke. “I’m just sore from rehearsal.”

“Liz, I know that we haven’t known each other for that long, but I can tell that you’re lying,” Jason said. “Please tell me. I want to help you.”

Elizabeth looked at Jason and knew that she could trust him. She had already told him about Lucky, she may as well tell him the rest of the story. Especially since she was tired of the abuse from him.

“I told you about Lucky yesterday,” Elizabeth said.

“That guy who was stalking you,” Jason said.

“Yeah,” Elizabeth said. “Well, he found me and he was waiting for me on my bus when I got in last night.”

“What happened?” Jason said.

“What usually happens when he tracks me down,” Elizabeth said. “If you come inside with me I’ll show you. Maybe your parents can help me. I’m in pain and I can’t rehearse in that much pain.”

“Come with me,” Jason said.

He led her back inside the house and to the bedroom that used to belong to Jason Quartermaine.

Chapter 7

In the bedroom, Elizabeth took Jason’s jacket off, followed by her sweater.

“If you don’t want me to do this let me know,” Elizabeth said, beginning to unzip the back of her dress.

“No, it’s all right,” Jason said.

The straps of the dress fell slightly off her shoulders and Jason found himself looking at Elizabeth’s bare back.

“Did Lucky do this to you?” Jason asked.

“On my bus last night,” Elizabeth said. “And he’s so careful; I can always cover the marks with clothing.”

“How long has this been going on?” Jason asked.

“It happened twice before yesterday,” Elizabeth said. “Once right after I broke things off with him and again a few months later.”

“I’m gonna kill him,” Jason said, angrily.

“Jason, don’t,” Elizabeth said. “This can’t get out to the media. Why do you think I’ve kept it a secret for so long?”

“Does Sonny know about this?” Jason asked.

“Not yet,” Elizabeth said. “I didn't want to scare him.”

“Lucky will never touch you again,” Jason said. “I promise you that.”

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “But do you think your mom or dad could look at this and maybe give me something?”

“Sure,” Jason said. “But what are you going to tell them?”

“I think I can trust them with the truth,” Elizabeth said. “But I’d rather see your mother see it.”

“Sure,” Jason said. “I’ll be right back.”

******

“Oh, Jason, dinner’s ready. Where’s Elizabeth?” Monica asked.

“Mom,” Jason said. “Can you come with me for a second?”

“Sure, honey, what’s the matter?” Monica asked.

“Elizabeth will explain it in a second,” Jason said.

Monica followed Jason upstairs to Jason Q’s bedroom and closed the door behind them.

Elizabeth explained the situation to Monica and Monica agreed to examine her but not report it to anyone.

“It would be easier if you lay down,” Monica said.

“I’ll be outside,” Jason said.

“No,” Elizabeth said, grabbing his hand. “Stay, please.”

“All right,” Jason said. He knelt next to the bed and held Elizabeth’s hand while Monica looked at her back.

“Okay,” Monica said. “It looks like just a lot of bad bruising. My suggestion would be some heat later, like a hot bath, to keep it from stiffening and ice later on. The bruising should fade in a day or so, but physically, take it easy.”

“Thank you, Monica,” Elizabeth said, sitting up after Monica had zippered the dress back up.

“Are you coming to dinner?” Monica asked.

“We’ll be down in a minute,” Jason said.

“Okay,” Monica said.

When Monica left, Jason turned back to Elizabeth.

“So what do we do now?” Jason asked. “We can’t just let this continue.”

“I know,” Elizabeth said. “But this can’t get out. And unless you kill him, which I don’t want, he’ll blab.”

“Sonny and I will take care of it, I promise,” Jason said. “Now let’s go eat and then we can go for a ride.”

“Sounds good,” Elizabeth said.

Jason offered his hand to Elizabeth and they walked downstairs to the dining room.

******

After dinner, Jason and Elizabeth left on his bike. After a short ride, Jason pulled into the lot where Elizabeth’s bus was parked. Elizabeth got off the bike and handed him the helmet as she had done the night before.

“Oh my God,” Jason barely managed as he took hold of the helmet.

“What?” Elizabeth asked.

“This is all my fault,” Jason said. “I shouldn’t have let you go without me. You tell me about your stalker and I just let you wander onto your bus in the dark, in the middle of the night, alone, when all I had to do was walk you there and this never would’ve happened.”

“Jason, don’t think that,” Elizabeth replied. “You could’ve walked me to my bus and he would’ve hid inside somewhere and then when you left I probably would’ve gotten it worse if he’d seen you. Please don’t blame yourself.”

“But,” Jason protested.

“Trust me,” Elizabeth said. “It was better that way. It couldn’t have been avoided.”

Jason let it go and looked back towards her bus.

“When do you check into the hotel?” Jason asked.

“Tomorrow afternoon,” Elizabeth said.

“Come back to Harborview with me tonight,” Jason said, suddenly.

“What?” Elizabeth asked, surprised.

“I don’t think you should stay here alone tonight,” Jason said. “Besides, my mother said you needed to alternate between ice and heat on your back and I know you can’t do that on your bus.”

“All right,” Elizabeth hesitantly agreed. “Let me just get a few things and tell my manager where I’ll be.”

Jason got off the bike and took Elizabeth’s hand. They walked to the bus her manager was on and Elizabeth called his name.

“Elizabeth, how was Audrey’s departure?” he asked.

“Good, she should be back home by now,” Elizabeth said. “Matt, this is my friend, Jason. Jason, this is my manager, Matt.”

“Nice to meet you,” Matt said.

“You too,” Jason said, shaking his hand.

“Anyway, I’m gonna stay at Harborview with Jason and my brother tonight,” Elizabeth said.

“Is Lucky around again?” Matt asked.

“I don’t know,” Elizabeth lied with ease. “I just want to spend time with my family.”

“All right,” Matt said. “But don’t forget you have studio time tomorrow morning and your appointment with the realtor at one.”

“I’ll be there,” Elizabeth said. “See you tomorrow.”

Matt nodded and Elizabeth and Jason walked off one bus and boarded hers. She gathered a few things and put them in a duffle bag, zipped it closed and walked with Jason back to his motorcycle.

Elizabeth stuffed her smaller bag inside the larger one and slipped it over her shoulder before climbing on the bike behind Jason.

******

Back at Harborview, Johnny was standing at his post outside Sonny’s door.

“Jason, Elizabeth,” he said. “It’s good to see you tonight. We didn’t know you were coming by, but someone definitely did.”

“What do you mean?” Jason asked.

“A friend of Elizabeth’s is inside with Sonny,” Johnny said.

“Does he have a name?” Jason asked.

“I didn’t get one,” Johnny said, opening the door. “Sonny might’ve.”

As they walked inside, Elizabeth got a glimpse of the guy on the couch and tightened her hold on Jason’s hand.

“Elizabeth, I’m glad I finally got to see you,” Lucky said, sweetly, standing to greet her.

“Stay away from me,” Elizabeth said, softly.

“Elizabeth, is that how you treat your boyfriend?” Lucky asked, holding his temper, knowing that people were watching.

“You told him you were my boyfriend?” Elizabeth said.

“What is going on here?” Sonny demanded.

As Lucky took another step towards Elizabeth, Jason grabbed his arm, twisted it behind his back, and worked him to the floor.

“Do not take another step near her,” Jason seethed, his face turning cold.

“Jason, what are you doing?” Sonny asked.

“Liz,” Jason said.

“I know, I know,” Elizabeth said. “Sonny, Lucky's not my boyfriend and he’s not my friend. He’s crazy. He follows me everywhere. He hit me because I’m not in love with him. Sonny, he scares me.”

As Elizabeth’s eyes filled with tears, Jason wanted nothing more than to hold her while she cried, but he knew he couldn’t and that for now Sonny would have to do it.

Sonny opened his arms and Elizabeth stepped towards him, almost falling into his hold.

“It’s okay, Bella,” Sonny said, soothingly. “He’ll never touch you again.”

A few minutes later, Elizabeth had calmed down and Lucky was still silent.

“So can we take out the trash now?” Johnny asked. He’d been standing in the room, waiting for Sonny to say the word.

“No!” Elizabeth exclaimed. “This can’t get out to the press. It’ll ruin me.”

“Elizabeth, he hurt you,” Johnny said. “And now he has to pay for the pain that he caused by suffering some pain of his own.”

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

“Whoever it is, tell them to leave,” Sonny instructed.

Johnny opened the door slightly and stepped outside, but failed to make the visitors leave, having them push by him moments later.

“Ah, Detective Taggert,” Sonny said. “Welcome to my humble abode. Can I help you with something?”

“This is Detective Walton,” Taggert said.

“LAPD,” Walton added.

“I have no business in Los Angeles, Detective,” Sonny asked.

“I’m not here for you,” Walton said.

“He came to me looking for this Lucas Lorenzo guy, and a local tipped him off to here,” Taggert said.

“Goes by the name Lucky,” Walton said. “He’s wanted for two murders in LA.”

“Oh my God,” Elizabeth said, slumping to the floor.

“Is that him?” Walton asked.

Sonny nodded and Walton removed Lucky from Jason’s grasp, pulling him up forcefully.

“Now I don’t know what happened here and I don’t want to know,” “Walton said. “I got what I came for.”

As Taggert and Walton left the penthouse with Lucky, Walton read him his rights.

Inside, Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief and hugged Jason, Sonny, and Johnny.

“Thank you,” she said. “All of you.”

“Now that that’s over,” Jason said. “You were ordered to take a hot bath.”

“Whatever you say Master Morgan,” Elizabeth said with a laugh. “As long as it’s a sponge bath.”

She said good night to Sonny and Johnny and walked out of the penthouse leaving Jason standing there, jaw dropped.

Chapter 8

Across the hall, Elizabeth entered the bathroom and began to fill the tub with hot water. She changed into her bathing suit, a black, strapless, bikini, clipped her hair up, and wrapped a towel around herself. When she was satisfied with her appearance, she headed back to Sonny’s.

She was enjoying getting a rise out of the men across the hall, especially Sonny. She couldn’t wait for his reaction this time. The suit being strapless made Elizabeth appear to be wearing nothing but a towel. With Johnny still inside, Elizabeth let herself in.

“Jason are you coming? The water’s getting cold,” Elizabeth said, sweetly.

“Move and you’re a dead man,” Sonny said.

“Jason,” Elizabeth beckoned.

“Do not touch her,” Sonny said.

“Sonny,” Elizabeth finally said, sharply, when Jason hadn’t moved. “I was joking.”

She pulled her towel off and threw it at her older brother.

“See?” she said.

Sonny pulled the towel off his head, his eyes finding Elizabeth clad in a bathing suit.

“Oh,” Sonny said.

“So I’m going to go now and Jason’s coming too,” Elizabeth said pulling Jason towards the door.

******

Back in Jason’s penthouse, Elizabeth turned the bathtub’s jets on and stepped in the water. She sat comfortably and put her notebook on the side, hoping to bang out some more last minute lyrics for her studio slot the next morning.

A few minutes later there was a knock on the door and Jason stuck his head in.

“You okay in there?” he asked.

“You can come in you know,” Elizabeth replied. “Sonny won’t yell at you.”

“Thanks,” Jason said, stepping into the bathroom.

“Am I still all bruised?” she asked, motioning to behind her.

“Let me take a look,” Jason said.

He knelt behind her and Elizabeth leaned forward slightly.

“They look like they’ve just about faded,” Jason said, lightly touching her shoulder and then her lower back. “You’re not rehearsing tomorrow, are you?”

“Not dancing,” Elizabeth said. “Not until next week, which suits me just fine. I’ll be in the studio tomorrow and then I have an appointment at one.”

“With a realtor, right?” Jason asked. “What’s that about?”

“I spent last night and this morning thinking about a permanent home for me to know that I can always come back to, and I want it to be here,” Elizabeth replied. “And I found I place that I’d like to buy.”

“Around here?” Jason asked.

“You know the bridge you took me too?” Elizabeth said. “Well there’s an estate there, mint-condition, and it’s never been lived in.”

“Someone built a house and never moved in?” Jason asked.

“It was supposed to be a gift from a man to his wife, like the Taj Mahal, but there was a tragic accident and the man lost his wife and couldn’t bear to live there without her. He died several months later, some say of a broken heart. The property was turned over to the state,” Elizabeth said.

“And they just left it?” Jason asked.

“They thought they’d make more money on the property if they could sell the house, but a place like this is expensive,” Elizabeth said.

“And you’re just going to buy it?” Jason said.

“If I like what I see tomorrow,” Elizabeth said. “Money comes with that luxury.”

“I know,” Jason said.

He flashed Elizabeth a smile and stood up.

“Do you need anything?” he asked.

“I’m gonna get out,” Elizabeth said. “Could you give me a hand?”

Jason held his hand out and Elizabeth stood up and stepped out of the tub. Jason wrapped a towel around her shoulders and brushed a hair off her face.

“I’ll be in the living room if you need me,” Jason said, walking towards the door.

When he left, Elizabeth started getting dressed. She was barely paying attention, unable to push Jason from her mind.

“God, Elizabeth, he’s not that cute,” she said to herself. “Okay, okay, he’s gorgeous. Listen to me, I sound like a high school girl talking to her diary for advice.”

Elizabeth paused for a minute and then smiled, grabbing her notebook.

Chapter 9

Following a long morning in the studio, a successful appointment with the realtor, and several more hours in the studio, Elizabeth made final arrangements to be moved into the estate. She returned to the warehouse and got on her bus to get ready for dinner.

The clock read 5:45 PM, giving Elizabeth about forty-five minutes to shower and get dressed for dinner. She washed her hair quickly and pulled her favorite dress off the hanger, a red dress with a sheer black overlay. She slipped on her black shoes and towel-dried her hair before pulling her long black jacket on and stepping off the bus.

At 6:25 PM, a black town car pulled into the lot and slowed to a stop. Adam, one of Sonny’s drivers, stepped out and opened the door allowing Sonny, Carly, Mike, Tammy, and Jason to exit the car.

“Hi,” Elizabeth said, cheerfully. “I’m glad you could all make it.”

“Hi honey,” Mike said, kissing her cheek. “Elizabeth, this is Tammy. Tammy, this is my daughter, Elizabeth.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” Tammy said.

“You too,” Elizabeth said, giving the older woman a hug.

“So, are you going to give us a tour of the place?” Sonny asked.

”Of course,” Elizabeth said. “Follow me.”

Elizabeth led the group onto her bus and walked towards the middle.

“So this is my bus,” Elizabeth said. “I’ve been staying on it every time I go on the road.”

“Not bad,” Carly said.

“It suits me,” Elizabeth said. “But, I’m glad I’ll have a place to come home to from now on.”

“You bought the estate?” Jason asked.

“This afternoon,” Elizabeth said. “All my things get moved in this weekend so I won’t have to stay on my bus or at the hotel.”

“Congratulations,” Jason said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth replied.

“You mean you’re staying here?” Mike asked.

“Yes,” Elizabeth said. “I found my family, I’m not going to leave you behind.”

Sonny and Mike both hugged Elizabeth and Jason, Carly, and Tammy smiled.

“I’m glad she decided to stay near them,” Jason whispered to Carly.

“Admit it, Jason,” Carly said with a nudge. “You wanted her to stay for you just as much as for Sonny and Mike.”

Jason looked at Carly, surprised, and turned towards Sonny hoping he hadn’t heard what Carly had said.

“How about a behind the scenes look at my set?” Elizabeth said.

“Sounds interesting,” Sonny said.

Elizabeth led them off the bus and they walked towards the warehouse.

“Max,” Elizabeth said when they reached the doors of the warehouse.

“Elizabeth,” Max replied. “Mr. Corinthos, Mrs. Corinthos, Mr. Morgan, how are you this evening?”

“Fine, Max,” Sonny said.

“I’m just going to show them around and then we’ll be heading to dinner so you can take off,” Elizabeth said.

“Mr. Corinthos?” Max asked, looking to Sonny for approval.

“That’s fine,” Sonny said.

Max nodded and smiled as Elizabeth, Jason, Sonny, Carly, Mike, and Tammy walked through the warehouse doors. Inside, Elizabeth flipped the switch of the lights revealing a large stage and elaborate sets off to the side.

“What is all of this for?” Jason asked.

“While I’m recording my new album, I started rehearsals for my upcoming tour to save time. I’ll be adding a lot of new numbers, but I start rehearsing them as I finish so the sets can be built and everything can be organized for the performances,” Elizabeth said.

“This is amazing,” Carly said.

Elizabeth walked them through the warehouse, showing them sets and explaining what they’d be for, also showing them few from the stage and it’s various pyrotechnic rigs.

“Sounds like an incredible performance,” Sonny said.

“I hope it will be,” Elizabeth said. “We open here in a few months so I hope everyone here agrees.”

“So, are we ready for dinner?” Sonny asked.

******

At Luke’s, Elizabeth, Jason, Sonny, Carly, Mike, and Tammy were seated and began to look over a menu.

A few minutes later, Elizabeth watched a man, who had been pointed out to her as Luke, walk to the main door of the club. As she looked further, she saw Francis walk in with who she assumed was his girlfriend, Larissa. Larissa was hugging Luke and Johnny stepped inside with his date for the evening. When Elizabeth saw who it was she let out a small laugh that caught the attention of the rest of the table.

“Something on the menu funny?” Sonny asked, curiously.

“Francis told me that he and his girlfriend were doubling with Johnny tonight,” Elizabeth said. “I didn’t know they’d be coming here.” “

Larissa’s dad owns the place,” Sonny said. “She’s a Spencer.”

“Oh,” Elizabeth said. “And she’s friends with Emily?”

“How did you know that?” Jason asked.

“Johnny’s date is supposed to be Larissa’s best friend,” Elizabeth said, beginning to laugh, putting all the pieces together. “And Johnny’s here with Emily so I took a shot.”

“Johnny’s here with who?” Jason said.

“Your sister, Emily,” Elizabeth said.

Everyone at the table except Jason began to laugh as Jason turned towards the door to see Emily, hand in hand with Johnny.

“Francis,” Elizabeth called, standing up.

Francis smiled and began to walk towards her with Larissa.

“Oh crap,” Johnny muttered when he saw Jason at the table. “I’m a dead man.”

“Hey, how are you?” Elizabeth asked, hugging Francis.

“Elizabeth, this is my girlfriend, Larissa,” he said.

“It’s nice to meet you,” Elizabeth said.

“You too. Emily’s told me all about you,” Larissa replied, before hugging her.

“Emily,” Elizabeth said. “I didn’t know you were gonna be here tonight.”

“What’s up?” Emily said, hugging her new friend.

“Johnny,” Elizabeth said. “Hey Johnny.”

“What? Huh?” Johnny said, dazed. “Oh hey.”

“Hey,” Elizabeth said. “You okay?”

“Me? Oh, yeah, I’m fine,” Johnny said, coolly. “Well we’re gonna go sit. We’ll see you later.”

Johnny hurried away from the table with Emily as Francis and Larissa followed.

Everyone at Elizabeth’s table, with the exception of Jason once again, dissolved into laughter.

“Well that was interesting,” Luke said, approaching the table.

“Hey Luke,” Sonny said, shaking his friend’s hand.

“And you must be Elizabeth,” Luke said. “My daughter was telling me you might come by.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” Elizabeth said. “You’ve got a great club.”

“Thank you,” Luke said. “And might I add that that’s a lovely dress. Don’t you think, Jason?”

As the table continued to laugh, Jason didn’t know how much more he could take.

“I’m juts kidding,” Luke said. “And Jason, cut Johnny a break. He and Francis aren’t’ bad guys. Hell, I let Francis date my daughter. Just give him a chance, okay?”

Jason nodded and Elizabeth smiled.

“So what are you eating tonight?” Luke said.

Everyone gave him his or her order and Luke hurried to the kitchen.

While they were waiting for their food, Emily walked back over to their table.

“Hey Em,” Elizabeth said.

“Hi,” Emily said. “Um, Larissa and I were talking and she was hoping that maybe you would sing. I know I probably shouldn’t ask because you’re out and you’re not working or whatever right now, but please?”

“I would never turn anyone down, Em,” Elizabeth said. “This is part of my life and I love it. I wouldn’t do it otherwise. And it just so happens that I have an instrumental track in my bag from the studio this morning.”

“Really?” Emily squealed. “Thank you.”

“No problem,” Elizabeth said. “You guys don’t mind do you?”

Of course, no one did. They were anxious to hear her again. Or for the first time.

Elizabeth followed Emily to the table and Larissa went to speak to her father. Being early on a Thursday night, the club was fairly empty. The only other patrons were Luke’s stepson Nikolas and his girlfriend Gia, who had joined Emily and Larissa’s table, and Luke’s wife.

“Hello all,” Luke said, addressing everyone. “My daughter has just informed me that Elizabeth would like to sing for you tonight, as per the request of several of you. Elizabeth…”

“Thanks, Luke,” Elizabeth said. “So, I’m kinda new here in Port Charles, but I absolutely love it and I’m glad I decided to stick around. Anyway, this one’s brand new. I just laid it out in the studio this morning and I wrote it last night, so I’d love input on whether or not I should put it on my new album. So enjoy.”

Luke played the tape from the back and Elizabeth began to sing.

Dear diary
Today I saw a boy
And I wondered if he noticed me
He took my breath away

Dear diary
I can't get him off my mind
And it scares me
'Cause I've never felt this way

Elizabeth watched everyone in the club as she sang, but paid special attention to keeping eye contact with Jason.

No one in this world
Knows me better than you do
So diary I'll confide in you

Dear diary
Today I saw that boy
As he walked by I thought he smiled at me

Emily watched as Elizabeth sang and knew that she was referring to Jason. She could see from Jason’s face that he felt it too and hoped that she could convince her brother to tell Elizabeth how he felt.

And I wondered
Does he know what's in my heart
I tried to smile, but I could hardly breathe

Should I tell him how I feel
Or would that scare him away
Diary, tell me what to do
Please tell me what to say

Dear diary
One touch of his hand
Now I can't wait to see that boy again

Everyone watched as Elizabeth sang. They could tell from one song alone that she was amazing. She performed so well and believed in what she was singing, making everyone else feel her emotions too.

He smiled
And I thought my heart could fly
Diary, do you think that we'll be more than friends?
I've got a feeling we'll be so much more

As she finished, everyone applauded and Elizabeth smiled, making a small bow before returning to her table, stopping along the way to see Emily, Larissa, Johnny, and Francis, and to be introduced to Nikolas and Gia.

******

Just like Emily, Sonny knew that Elizabeth meant Jason. Sonny also knew that even though he didn’t like it, Jason felt the same way. He just hoped that he could ignore that and push Jason to going for it. If he knew Jason, Sonny knew that Jason would try to keep his feelings for Elizabeth hidden, knowing that Sonny wouldn’t like it.

But this time, Sonny would have to change that. Elizabeth’s happiness, along with the happiness of his best friend was all that really mattered.

Chapter 10

The weekend passed and Jason never said anything to Elizabeth about the song. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to, but he knew that something would start that they’d be unable to finish and Jason refused to hurt her.

He had done a pretty good job of avoiding the subject because everyone was so busy helping Elizabeth move into her place. Her estate was swarming with people. Jason and Sonny made sure that some of their men helped, including Johnny, Francis, and Max. Emily had come with Larissa, Nikolas, Gia, and AJ. And, of course, Mike, Carly, and Michael were there too.

By weekend’s close, the estate was truly Elizabeth. The indoor pool and gym and been refurnished, the rooms had been done to Elizabeth’s liking, the kitchen had Sonny’s touch and a promise of cooking lessons, and Elizabeth had turned several empty rooms into her own personal ‘playrooms’. There was a studio for her record in on her own schedule, a game room with a bar, pool table, card tables, arcade games, and a stereo system. The entertainment room with a huge-screen television with state of the art surround sound. A dance studio next to the gym for Elizabeth’s own rehearsals and a room with a beautiful black grand piano, one of three pianos in the house, and Elizabeth’s favorite.

The finishing touches were put on Elizabeth’s property as well. The outdoor pool that connected to the indoor pool was cleaned and covered for the remaining winter and early spring months. And, Elizabeth’s various modes of transportation arrived and were parked in her garage, which held up to six cars.

“I’d say you’ve made out pretty good here,” Sonny said, when the last empty box was discarded.

“I’d definitely agree with you,” Elizabeth said. “So how about cooking dinner for everyone here tonight?”

“Sure,” Sonny said. “In the mean time you want to keep them entertained by putting on a movie or something?”

“I’ll set that up,” Elizabeth said.

******

Sonny began preparing dinner in the kitchen while Elizabeth rounded everyone up. Knowing all the other ‘toys’ Elizabeth had in the house, no one wanted to watch a movie.

“I take it you all want to stay here tonight,” Elizabeth said.

“Oh, could we?” Emily asked, excitedly.

“Yes,” Elizabeth replied. “Sonny’s making dinner so if you guys can keep yourselves occupied for a while, dinner will be up shortly.”

“There’s so much to do,” Emily said.

“What can we do?” Larissa asked.

”Anything you want,” Elizabeth said. “But I need to do some training before my rehearsal tomorrow so I’ll be in the dance studio.”

A few minutes later, the guys settled themselves in the game room shooting pool and playing cards while the girls went with Elizabeth to her dance studio to watch her practice. By that time, Tammy and Mike had excused themselves to leave for their trip in Florida and Carly was in the kitchen with Michael and Sonny.

******

“Elizabeth, what’s been going on with you and my brother?” Emily asked.

“Nothing,” Elizabeth replied. “We’re friends, but that’s it.”

“Come on, Elizabeth,” Emily said. “Tell me you don’t want something more from him. I heard that song on Friday. We all did and we all know what it meant.”

“Look, Em, Jason means a lot to me, but we can’t be anything more than friends,” Elizabeth said. “He’s my brother’s best friend, it wouldn’t be right.”

“This coming from a person who convinced Jason to give Johnny a chance for me,” Emily said.

“That was different,” Elizabeth said.

“How?” Emily asked.

“I don’t know,” Elizabeth said, getting frustrated. “It just is.”

“Keep telling yourself that, Liz,” Emily said. “Maybe one day you’ll believe it yourself.”

Elizabeth rolled her eyes and turned on the c.d. player. A song began to play and Elizabeth sat on the floor to stretch.

I can stand with the weight of the world on my shoulders
I can fight with the toughest of the tough
I can laugh in the face of all my insecurities
Anytime, anywhere, anything
I'm strong enough

But when you're holding me like this
I'm carelessly lost in your touch
I'm completely defenseless
Baby, it's almost too much
I'm helplessly, hopelessly, recklessly
Falling in love

So let consequence do what it will to us
I don't care
Let the stars stand as witness to it all
Say the word and tonight I will follow you anywhere
I just can't pretend anymore
I'm too sturdy to fall

“Elizabeth, when did you write this?” Emily asked.

“It’s just a rough recording,” Elizabeth said, leaning into a lunge. “I did it yesterday.”

“Did you write it yesterday?” Emily asked.

“Yeah,” Elizabeth said.

“So tell me again how you and my brother are just friends,” Emily said with a smile.

'Cause when you're holding me like this
I'm carelessly lost in your touch
I'm completely defenseless
Baby, it's almost too much
I'm helplessly, hopelessly, recklessly
Falling in love

Elizabeth tried her best to continue stretching and ignore Emily, but she knew that she was right.

I am not afraid
I am not afraid

'Cause when you're holding me like this
I'm carelessly lost in your touch
I'm completely defenseless
Baby, it's almost too much
I'm helplessly, hopelessly, recklessly
Falling...

I'm helplessly, hopelessly, recklessly
Falling in love

“All right,” Elizabeth said. “I’m falling for Jason. But that doesn’t mean that it should happen. Besides, there is no way that Jason could possibly want anything more than a friendship from me.”

“We shall see, Elizabeth,” Emily replied, a wicked smile creeping to her face. “We shall see.”

******

“So, Jason’s finally got a woman in his life,” Francis commented to Johnny as they played poker.

“If you’re referring to Elizabeth, she and I are just friends,” Jason said looking up from the pool table.

“Right man,” Johnny said. “And that’s why she was looking directly at you when she was singing on Friday night.”

“You know Johnny, why don’t we talk about something else,” Jason said. “Like you and my sister perhaps. Does that sound like fun?”

“Sorry man, I’ll lay off,” Johnny said.

Jason nodded and returned his attention to his pool game.

“What’s got him so on the edge?” Johnny asked.

“He’s afraid to go after Elizabeth because she’s Sonny’s little sister,” Max said.

“Well that didn’t stop Johnny,” Francis said.

“That was your idea and Jason’s okay with it,” Johnny said.

“Yeah, because Elizabeth convinced him to stay out of it,” Max said.

“How do you know all this?” Francis asked.

“While you and Johnny were on your date, I stayed on the job for an extra couple of hours,” Max said. “It’s amazing the things you can learn standing at a door.”

“So what do we do?” Johnny asked. “Talk to Sonny?”

“Not yet,” Francis said. “The last thing Jason needs is for us to get involved and screw it up.”

“But he’s gonna be miserable if he lets this go,” Johnny said.

“Trust me, Johnny,” Francis said. “Give it time. It might work itself out on its own.”

“Let’s hope so,” Max said. “I hate it when he’s like this.”

Chapter 11

The following afternoon, Elizabeth had finally had her meeting with Ned. All the details of their arrangement were worked out and Ned got the ball rolling on a pre-tour show, which was scheduled for a week later. Its purpose was to bring fans out to see Elizabeth for free and also to introduce her as an artist on L&B.

A week later, which happened to be Valentine’s Day, the show was organized.

******

The show was being held in the No-Name, Port Charles’ local club. Elizabeth was doing a thirty-minute set after signing autographs. The signing was scheduled to start and 6 PM and go until 7:30 PM. At 5:45 PM, Elizabeth was in a back room getting dressed.

“Elizabeth, are you ready?” Ned asked.

“Just about,” Elizabeth said.

“Nikolas is prepping the crowd,” Ned said. “It’s a full house, even more so than we expected to good luck.”

“Thanks,” Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth finished getting ready, dressed in jeans, a red halter, and her leather jacket. She tied her sneakers and pulled some of her hair off her face with a clip.

“Okay, you’re on,” Ned said a few minutes later.

“Thanks, Ned,” Elizabeth said.

She got up and walked out to the venue with Max and Francis standing on either side of her.

The fans waiting began to scream and applaud. Elizabeth smiled at them and took the microphone from Nikolas as she spotted her friends and family watching by the stage.

“Hello Port Charles,” Elizabeth said to the crowd. “And Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you. I’m glad you could all come out and see me tonight. As some of you may already know, I’ve decided to set some roots down so that I’d have a place to come to. And I’ve decided to do it here so I can be with my friends and family. Because of this, I’ve signed a new deal with L&B Records after last year’s fiasco with Jive, but the lawyers can settle that because I’ve had enough. Anyway, I will be signing autographs for a little while and stick around because I’ll be doing a small show right over there at around 7:30 PM.”

Elizabeth smiled and waved to the crowd as she settled in her seat at the signing table.

******

For a little over an hour and a half, Elizabeth signed autographs and posed for pictures. In the short amount of time, Elizabeth managed to sign for everyone in attendance. After a ten-minute break, she got on the stage to perform.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Elizabeth will be performing a small set this evening. Due to the tight space we ask that you place remain standing and try not to push the people in front of you because there is nowhere else to move. Thank you and enjoy the show,” Nikolas said.

Elizabeth, still wearing her jeans and red top, began her set with her newest single, Get Over Yourself, co-written with her guitarist, followed by Stronger. When she finished, she quickly exited the stage for a fast change.

When she returned, she was still wearing her red top, but had traded her jeans for a short red silk skirt that had a red overlay the went to the floor. She also chose to be barefoot.

“I hope you enjoyed the up-tempo stuff, I know I do especially when I get to dance,” Elizabeth said. “But because it is Valentine’s Day, I decided to keep the majority of the show slow. So for all you couples in the house tonight, feel free to dance and sing along, and for everyone else with friends or family, I hope you’ll do the same. And Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you.”

As Elizabeth began Helplessly, Hopelessly, Recklessly, she watched Sonny talking to Jason. Though the conversation looked serious, Elizabeth knew it had nothing to do with business. She wondered if Sonny was giving Jason yet another warning to stay away from her. Sighing, Elizabeth turned her attention back to the song, but unable to push her feelings for Jason aside once again, Elizabeth used them, and continued to do so throughout the rest of the set.

When Elizabeth began Love This Way the crowd seemed to part further as more people started to dance.

I wanna run into someone’s arms
Lie on a bed of roses
I wanna feel just like Juliet
I wanna fall in love
I've got a feeling

Everybody wants someone to love
Somebody they can trust
Somebody they can touch
Everybody wants to give their heart away
Everybody needs a little tenderness
To feel understood
To feel passionate
Everybody wants to be in love this way
I know I do (I do)
What about you

I wanna be somebody's baby
I wanna cry and still feel beautiful
Maybe I really just wanna be myself
Am I the only one?
I've got a feeling

Everybody wants someone to love
Somebody they can trust
Somebody they can touch
Everybody wants to give their heart away (give their heart away)
Everybody needs a little tenderness
To feel understood
To feel passionate
Everybody wants to be in love this way
I know I do (I do)
What about you

Oh, see I do (I do)
Doesn't everybody wanna give their heart away
I do, (I do)
Doesn't everybody wanna love this way
'Cause I do

Everybody wants someone to love
Somebody they can trust
Somebody they can touch
Everybody wants to give their heart away (give their heart away)
Everybody needs a little tenderness (a little tenderness)
To feel understood
To feel passionate
Everybody wants to be in love this way (doesn't everybody wanna be in love this way)

I wanna feel like an angel
I want to fly on a beam of moonlight
And I wanna see heaven from the inside
I wanna be in love this way
I wanna feel just like Juliet
Juliet, Juliet

Everybody needs a little tenderness
To feel understood
To feel passionate (what about you)
Everybody wants to be in love this way

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said over the applause. “I hope you’ve all enjoyed the evening; I know I have. This last song this evening holds a very special place in my heart. I wrote it a little under a year ago in my memory of my mother who, as you know, died of cancer. This is the first time I’ve sung it outside the studio and I hope it will mean as much to you as it does to me. Thank you all for coming and have a good night.”

The music began for Beautiful and Mike and Sonny glanced at each other.

“Does she look all right to you?” Mike asked his son.

“It’s an emotional song,” Sonny replied. “I’m sure she’ll be fine.”

Mike nodded and he and Sonny returned to watching the performance completely mesmerized by Elizabeth’s voice. But Jason didn’t agree. As he watched Elizabeth sing, he knew that she was crying and as she went further into the song, Jason knew that she was losing it, and that by the end she was barely hanging on.

I’m looking for a way to feel you hold me
To feel your heart beat just one more time
I’m reaching back, trying to touch the moment
Each precious minute that you were mine
How do you prepare, when you love someone this way
To let them go a little more each day

The stars we put in place
The dreams we didn’t waste
The sorrows we embraced
The world belonged to you and me
The oceans that we crossed
The innocence we’ve lost
The hurting at the end
I'd go there again

´Cause it was beautiful
It was beautiful

Some days missing you is overwhelming
When it hits me; you’re not coming back
And in my darkest hours I have wondered
Was it worth it for the time we had
My thoughts get kinda scattered, but one thing I know is true
I bless the day that I found you, oh

The stars we put in place
The dreams we didn’t waste
The sorrows we embraced
The world belonged to you and me
The oceans that we crossed
The innocence we’ve lost
The hurting at the end
I'd go there again
´Cause it was beautiful
It was beautiful

Oh, the rules we stepped aside
The fear that we defied
Oh, the thrill of the ride
The fire in our hearts that burned
The oceans that we crossed
The innocence we’ve lost
The hurting at the end
I'd go there again
´Cause it was beautiful
So beautiful
It was beautiful

And Jason was right. As Elizabeth finished the last line, she broke down. Jason was by her side instantly, lifted her into his arms and carried her off the stage and out the back door of the club.

The crowd began to disperse with hopes that Elizabeth would be all right and Sonny convinced Mike that she needed to be alone with Jason at the moment, keeping Mike from joining them and hoping that this along with the Valentine’s Day spirit would bring his sister and his best friend together.

******

Outside the club…

Jason had set Elizabeth on her feet and pulled her into his arms, holding her as she cried.

“I’m sorry,” Elizabeth said, when she pulled away from him, wiping her eyes.

“You’ve got a right to be upset,” Jason said. “That must have been hard for you.”

“But I never thought it would be that hard,” Elizabeth said. “I’ve sung it a thousand times before.”

“Maybe it meant more to you this time because people were sharing it with you,” Jason said.

“Maybe,” Elizabeth said, rubbing her arms to keep herself warm.

“Here,” Jason said, stripping off his leather jacket and helping Elizabeth into it.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said, finally meeting his gaze. “You know, I saw you and Sonny talking before. He wasn’t giving you another warning was he?”

“He hasn’t said anything like that since that day with the bath incident,” Jason replied.

“Oh,” Elizabeth said.

It was silent between them for a few moments before Jason spoke again.

“You know you look beautiful tonight,” Jason said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “But it’s getting cold out here. Could we go inside or something?”

“Oh man, you’re not wearing shoes,” Jason said, looking down at her feet. “I completely forgot. Why didn’t you say anything?”

“I guess I was too upset before to notice,” Elizabeth said.

“Let me get you off your feet,” Jason said, picking her up again. “So, where to?”

“Um, I think that you and I should talk,” Elizabeth said. ”Away from everyone else.”

“Why don’t I have Francis drive us back to your place and we can talk there,” Jason said. “Because you’re right, we have a lot to talk about.”

Chapter 12

Jason carried Elizabeth through the No-Name and sat her in the car.

“Francis, can you take us back to Elizabeth’s?” Jason asked.

“Sure,” Francis said.

“Thanks,” Jason said. “Elizabeth is in the car already. Is everyone else gone?”

“Everyone but Max and I,” Francis replied.

“Okay,” Jason said.

Jason got in the back of the car with Elizabeth and Max and Francis sat up front, Max driving.

******

The ride back was fairly quiet and Jason didn’t break the silence until they were back at Elizabeth’s, alone.

“I know I didn’t get to tell you before, but you were great tonight,” Jason said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth replied.

“And you look absolutely beautiful,” Jason said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth repeated softer, her face reddening to the color of her dress. “And thank you for getting me off the stage before. I don’t think I would have been able to do it by myself.”

“No problem,” Jason said. “I’m glad I was there.”

“Here’s your jacket,” Elizabeth said.

“Thanks,” Jason said taking his leather jacket from Elizabeth’s arms.

“So we have to talk, but I don’t really know how to start, or even what to say,” Elizabeth said.

“Well you asked me about Sonny, so I guess we could start there,” Jason said.

“Since we’ve got to start somewhere. Okay,” Elizabeth said. “When I was onstage before, I saw you and Sonny talking. Now, I know it wasn’t business, so what’s going on?”

“Honestly, we were talking about you,” Jason said.

“Oh,” Elizabeth said. “What about me exactly?”

Jason never got to answer because there was a knock on the door.

“Coming,” Elizabeth called, hurrying to the front door.

She unlocked it and pulled the door open to find Johnny and Emily standing outside.

“Hi,” Elizabeth said as Jason came into the front foyer.

“Hey. Um, are we interrupting something?” Emily asked.

“No, not at all,” Jason said quickly.

“Yeah, uh, come on in,” Elizabeth said, as she tried to hide the fact that she was surprised at Jason’s reaction since he was the one who had initiated their conversation.

“Okay, well Jason and I are going to shoot some pool,” Johnny said. “Emily, you want to hang out with Elizabeth?”

“Sounds good,” Emily said, dragging Elizabeth towards the stairs leading to her bedroom.

******

Johnny and Jason walked into the poolroom and Johnny began arranging the table for a game of pool.

“Johnny, what are you two really doing here? And what’s with the divide and conquer plan?” Jason asked.

“So you caught on to that huh?” Johnny said.

“Yes, and I’d like you to explain to me exactly what’s going on here,” Jason said.

“Emily got this idea in her head that she could bring you and Elizabeth together,” Johnny said.

“And you’re a part of this now, too?” Jason asked, curiously.

“Look, man, you’re one of my best friends, but I like your sister, a lot,” Johnny said. “And I’d do anything she asked of me. Right now, this is what she wants to do, so I’m going to help her.”

“And you didn’t think that maybe I was happy with being just friends with Elizabeth?” Jason asked.

“You and I both know that’s not true,” Johnny said.

“Okay, number one, even I wanted something more from her, Sonny would never go for it,” Jason said.

“What makes you say that?” Johnny asked. “You’re giving me a chance with Emily.”

“Sonny’s different,” Jason said.

“You’re just using that as an excuse because you’re afraid of what you feel for Elizabeth,” Johnny said.

“You know what, Johnny? This isn’t any of your God damn business, so stay the hell out of it,” Jason said.

******

Meanwhile…

Emily was sitting on Elizabeth’s bed while Elizabeth slipped out of her skirt and halter and into sweats and a mid-drift baring tank top.

“So I know that Johnny and I did interrupt something when we showed up,” Emily said, crossing her legs under her. “Do you want to talk about it? Or what happened on stage before?”

“I’m over what happened on stage,” Elizabeth said. “My emotions just got the better of me.”

“What about what Johnny and I barged in on?” Emily said.

“The main reason that Jason and I came back here alone was so that we could talk,” Elizabeth said. “I had planned on telling him that I wanted more than a friendship from him, but when I started to, the words wouldn’t come out. And then Jason was going to tell me something about what he and Sonny were talking about, about me, but you guys came.”

“I am so sorry,” Emily said, cringing.

“No, no, it’s okay,” Elizabeth said, flopping on the bed next to Emily.

“But if Johnny and I hadn’t shown up, maybe Jason would’ve kissed you, and then you guys would be together,” Emily said. “Oh, I should’ve just stayed out of it. This is all my fault.”

“Em, first of all, there’s no way in the world that Jason would’ve kissed me,” Elizabeth said. “He doesn’t want to. I was only telling him because it hurt too much to keep it hidden. I wasn’t expecting anything from Jason. He’d probably avoid opening up to me unless he was locked in a room with me.”

At Elizabeth’s last comment, a light went off in Emily’s head.

“Okay, okay, Johnny and I will go and you and Jason can talk,” Emily said, getting up. “Johnny!”

******

Emily ran down the stairs and Johnny met her at the bottom. Emily quickly whispered in his ear and Johnny smiled.

“Em, you don’t have to leave,” Elizabeth said coming down the stairs. But there was no one there. “Emily? Johnny?”

Elizabeth walked through her house and into one of the guest bedrooms looking for them. Jason came up behind her and the door slammed.

“Hey!” Elizabeth exclaimed.

“Emily?” Jason said. “What are you doing?”

“We just thought that you guys should talk,” Emily said as the lock of the door clicked. “Alone.”

“With no chance of excuses or escapes getting in the way,” Johnny said.

“You guys are crazy,” Elizabeth said.

“We know,” Emily said with a giggle. “Now talk.”

******

“Oh man,” Elizabeth said, flopping on the bed.

“I can’t believe those two,” Jason said.

“So, what do we do now?” Elizabeth asked, leaning up on her elbows and looking at Jason who had slumped to the floor next to the door.

“Since this was my sister’s idea and knowing how stubborn she is, we should probably talk or we’ll never get out of this room,” Jason replied.

“Where do we start?” Elizabeth asked.

“How about where we left off before they got here?” Jason offered.

“And where exactly was that?” Elizabeth asked.

“I was going to tell you what Sonny and I were talking about,” Jason said. Elizabeth nodded, waiting for Jason to continue. “Before, when you were talking about Sonny warning me about you, I should’ve told you that that’s not what was happening.”

“Uh huh,” Elizabeth said.

“Sonny hasn’t said anything like that since that night at my penthouse when you were teasing me about giving you a sponge bath,” Jason said.

“But he was talking about me, right?” Elizabeth said.

“He was telling me that he was okay with you and I being, you know…” Jason said, slowly getting up and walking to the front of the bed where Elizabeth was sitting.

“Being what?” Elizabeth asked.

“More than friends,” Jason said, finally.

“Does he think that you and…” Elizabeth asked.

“Maybe he thinks that we should be,” Jason said.

“Or that we want to be,” Elizabeth said.

“Liz,” Jason said.

“I’m sorry,” Elizabeth said. “I was just saying what was in my head.”

“Is that what you were thinking?” Jason asked.

“Can we talk about something else now?” Elizabeth said, nervously.

Before Elizabeth could do or say anything else, Jason had pulled her up. He lightly touched her cheek with one of his hands and leaned down to kiss her. Elizabeth didn’t hesitate or try to pull away. Slowly, she moved her arms around Jason’s neck as he dropped his hands and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her as close to him as he could.

He ran is tongue along her bottom lip, begging her to open her mouth to him. She did almost instantly and whimpered as his tongue touched hers and he began to explore her mouth.

The passion between them grew as Elizabeth sat on the bed, lay back, and pulled Jason over her. A thousand thoughts were going through both of their heads, but not one of them was stop.

Chapter 13

Someone to have and hold

With all my heart and soul

I need to know before I fall in love

Someone who’ll stay around

Through all my ups and downs

Please tell me now before I fall in love

“Excellent Elizabeth,” Ned said into the microphone wired to the booth Elizabeth was recording in. “Come on out.”

Elizabeth took the headphones off, gathered some papers, and walked into the mixing room.

“I think another two days in the studio for you should be enough to wrap this up,” Ned said.

“Sounds good to me,” Elizabeth said.

“If you keep up with your rehearsal schedule, we should be able to start the tour in about three weeks,” Ned said.

“Okay,” Elizabeth said.

“And Elizabeth,” Ned said as Elizabeth walked to the door. “I’ve really heard a great sound from you in the past three weeks. Whatever’s bringing it on, keep it up.”

Elizabeth smiled as she thanked Ned and left the studio.

Sitting in her car, Elizabeth turned on the radio and thought about what Ned had said.

Flashback…

Jason pulled Elizabeth off the bed and into his arms, lowering his head to kiss her. She tightened her arms around his neck and melted into him.

Elizabeth gripped Jason’s tee shirt, pulled it from his jeans, and pulled it over his head. She ran her hands down Jason’s back as he kissed her neck, trailing more kissed across her jaw line. His mouth met hers again and she opened to him instantly. His hand cupped her breast through her tank and she groaned his name into his mouth. Hearing her voice, Jason pulled away suddenly.

“We…we have to stop,” Jason said, breathlessly.

“Did I do something wrong?” Elizabeth asked as Jason fumbled to put his shirt back on.

“No,” Jason said. “God, no. That’s part of the problem. I want you so much, Liz. But this is going too far, too fast.”

“But I wanted it,” Elizabeth protested.

“Liz, I care about you. I’ve never felt this way before,” Jason said. “But I want things between us to be perfect. I want to take things slowly. I almost lost control with you and I don’t like that feeling. I don’t ever want to regret anything that happens between us. I don’t ever want to hurt you.”

“You couldn’t,” Elizabeth said.

“Maybe I’m not explaining this well,” Jason said, taking Elizabeth’s hands in his. “What I’m trying to say is that I’m falling for you, fast, but I want to slow things down. Making love to you now would be wrong. I’m not saying I don’t want, because believe me, I do. But we should take some time to establish a relationship with complete trust and understanding.”

“And love,” Elizabeth added.

“And love,” Jason repeated. “So are we okay?”

“Perfect,” Elizabeth said. “You were right. Slower is better.”

Jason smiled and hugged Elizabeth tightly before kissing her softly.

“So do you think my crazy sister and her boyfriend will let us out now?” Jason asked.

“I hope so,” Elizabeth said, laughing.

End flashback…

“I guess that’s what love does,” Elizabeth said to herself in response to Ned’s comment.

She smiled again, turning up the radio, shifted gears, and her Camaro took off down the street.

******

“So how’s my little sister?” Sonny asked.

“Liz is great. She’s working hard, but she wants to get it done,” Jason said.

“I’m glad she’s happy,” Sonny said. “So, when was the last time that you were actually in your penthouse?”

“What are you talking about Sonny?” Jason said.

Sonny knew that he had Jason trapped. Jason couldn’t lie and was not doing so well right now with playing dumb.

“It’s been two weeks since you’ve slept at your penthouse,” Sonny said. “Have you been staying at Elizabeth’s?”

“Um, well,” Jason said.

“Okay,” Sonny said seeing Jason’s discomfort. “I’ll let it go. Just answer me this. Are you being careful?”

“Hey,” Elizabeth said walking into Sonny’s penthouse with Johnny and Francis.

“Did we miss something?” Johnny asked looking back and forth between Elizabeth and Francis and Sonny and Jason.

“Sonny, if you’re implying that my staying with Liz means I’m sleeping with her, then you’d be wrong,” Jason said. “Nothing like that has happened.”

“Oh, you have got to be kidding me!” Elizabeth exclaimed. “Sonny, don’t ask him that.”

“I’m sorry,” Sonny said. “It’s just been driving me crazy.”

“Okay, if you spend your free time thinking about whether or not Jason and I are having sex, then you need to get a hobby,” Elizabeth said.

Jason, Johnny, and Francis burst out laughing, Elizabeth smiling wickedly, and Sonny’s face reddened.

“Alright, alright, I get your point,” Sonny said. “I’m sorry. I’ll mind my business from now on.”

“Good,” Elizabeth said. “Jason, are you ready to go?”

“Sure,” Jason said, grabbing her jacket.

“Where are you going?” Sonny asked.

“Business minding, Sonny?” Elizabeth said.

“Okay, okay,” Sonny said.

“So we’re leaving now,” Elizabeth said.

“Bye man,” Jason said.

******

Elizabeth and Jason were sitting at the Port Charles Grille having dinner and light conversation.

“So Ned says that I only need two more days in the studio and if I keep up with my rehearsal schedule the tour will kick-off as planned in three weeks,” Elizabeth said excitedly.

“That’s great, baby,” Jason said.

“I know,” Elizabeth said. “This is my biggest tour yet. It’ll be great for L&B. Hopefully album sales will be enough to bring L&B out of their current rut.”

“Is that why you signed with L&B?” Jason asked.

“That and my falling out with Jive,” Elizabeth said.

“Yeah, what happened with that?” Jason asked.

“When I started, I was younger so I wasn’t allowed to do a lot for myself,” Elizabeth said “But the more time I invited in my career, the more I learned, and the more independence I wanted.”

“And they didn’t like that,” Jason said.

“Not in the least bit,” Elizabeth said. “But in the end, everything worked out for the best. So I’ve been thinking, I know you’re not one for tuxes and parties, but my album release party is in three weeks, the opening night of my tour, and I want you to be my date.”

“I have to wear a tux?” Jason asked.

“You might,” Elizabeth replied. “Ned, Nikolas, and I are working out some details still. We might do black tie, but we might just throw a huge, casual blowout.”

“Casual sounds good to me,” Jason said.

I figured as much,” Elizabeth said.

“But it’s your party, so do what you want,” Jason said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

“Now, about this tour,” Jason said.

“I leave in three weeks and the tour runs across the US for two months,” Elizabeth said.

“Two months,” Jason repeated.

“I know it’s a while,” Elizabeth said.

“But you’re doing what you love,” Jason said. “I would never try and stop you or ask you to give it up. But I will tell you that I’m going to miss you.”

“I’m going to miss you too, baby,” Elizabeth said.

******

Three weeks came and went quickly, and Ned and Nikolas worked night and day to make sure every detail for Elizabeth’s tour was perfect.

Two days before her opening night, Elizabeth traveled to New York City to do several television appearances. She brought Jason, Johnny, Francis, Emily, Larissa, Gia, and Nikolas along for the ride and for a day of fun in the city.

“It’s seven o’clock in the morning,” Gia whined. “I can’t believe I’m awake.”

“Just remember that this is going to be a lot of fun,” Emily said. “Not everyone has a famous best friend and gets a behind the scenes look at shows like Regis and Kelly and TRL. And a shopping spree in NYC, how can you pass that up?”

“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” Gia said. “It’s just early.”

“Alright, Elizabeth. First you’re doing Regis and Kelly and then you have a break in the afternoon before TRL. Then an autograph signing at Virgin and then a fan meeting at Planet Hollywood at seven,” Nikolas said.

“Sounds right to me,” Elizabeth said. “So I’m performing Helplessly, Hopelessly, Recklessly on Regis and Kelly and Get Over Yourself on TRL?”

“Yeah,” Nikolas said. “I don’t know if you want to sing at the fan gathering tonight, but we’re not prepared for it so if you do, you’ll just do an unplugged set.”

“I’m sure they’ll want me to sing,” Elizabeth said. “So I’ll just do Love This Way or Beautiful.”

“Then everything’s set,” Nikolas said.

“Good,” Elizabeth said.

******

“Please welcome, Elizabeth,” Kelly Ripa said.

Elizabeth walked out and waved at the crowd, making eye contact with Jason, who was sitting with the rest or the group in the front row. She kissed and received a kiss from both Regis and Kelly before taking her seat in the stool.

After a short interview, Regis introduced her performance. She sang a song and then left the set with Jason and their friends to begin their shopping spree, most dreaded by the guys.

******

“Elizabeth, we can’t get all of this,” Larissa said. “I don’t make enough money working at my dad’s club for a week to afford this one outfit.”

“See the good thing about this is it doesn’t matter because I do,” Elizabeth said.

“We can’t let you buy us all this stuff,” Emily said.

“Elizabeth, this suit is great,” Johnny said. “Thank you so much.”

“Yeah, this’ll be great for your album release party,” Francis said.

“No problem, guys,” Elizabeth said. “Is there anything else you two want?”

“The suit is plenty,” Francis said.

“Yeah, thank you,” Johnny said. “So much.”

“And this dress is great,” Larissa said as they piled the clothes on the counter at the register.

“And I love these pants with this shirt. And the boots were a perfect touch,” Emily said.

“No problem,” Elizabeth said as the salesgirl began to ring up the purchases trying to keep her shock hidden as the total rose. “Jason, are you sure you don’t want anything?”

“No thank you, baby,” Jason said.

“Okay,” Elizabeth said.

“Your total is $4,692.78,” the salesgirl said.

“Charge it,” Elizabeth said, handing her credit card to the salesgirl.

The salesgirl ran her credit and bagged the purchases. The group gathered up the bags and left the store. They put their stuff in the limo and looked back at the strip of stores.

“What time is it?” Elizabeth asked.

“Two o’clock,” Jason said.

“We’ve got a little less than an hour and I have one more place to go,” Elizabeth said.

“We’ve hit every store from here to 58th Street,” Emily said.

“I want to go to Tiffany’s across the street,” Elizabeth said, a smile forming on her face. “I have a few gifts to buy before I leave for the tour.”

Chapter 14

Everyone went across the street to Tiffany’s and the group admired various cases of necklaces, bracelets, rings, and watches while Elizabeth slipped in the back with the jeweler to make her purchases.

After a half an hour, Elizabeth finished up and everyone piled back in the limo for the short drive to Times Square.

“Now this interview will be longer than the one from this morning,” Nikolas said.

“I know,” Elizabeth replied before turning to Emily. “Em, if they mention Juan or the mess that L&B was in, are you going to be okay?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. I’m over Juan and everything that happened with him. Besides,” Emily said leaning against Johnny who draped his arm across her waist. “I’m much happier now, with Johnny, than I ever was with that jerk.”

“Good,” Elizabeth said.

******

In the MTV Studio, Elizabeth went to wardrobe after getting a tour of the set and a rundown of the program. Everyone else settled into their seats before the show began.

“What’s up, everybody? I’m Carson Daly, and this is TRL. My guest today is America’s, excuse me, the world’s princess of pop, Elizabeth. We’ll get to her in just a moment, but first, here’s today’s number 10 video, Alien Ant Farm with Smooth Criminal,” he said.

After showing part of the video, the cameras were back on Carson.

“My guest today has been riding high for the past three years,” Carson said. “She’s released two albums that have both hit number one on the charts and done several US and world tours. Her third album drops on Friday along with the opening of her latest tour. Please welcome… Elizabeth.”

The crowd, inside and out, erupted as Elizabeth walked out, having traded her earlier outfit of a knee length gray skirt and sweater for the more TRL appropriate black leather pants and silver halter.

“Well that’s new,” Johnny whispered to Jason.

“She looks so good,” Gia said. “She can wear anything and look good in it. How does she do it?”

Elizabeth hugged Carson and waved again to the crowd.

“It’s great to have you back on TRL,” Carson said.

“It’s great to be here again,” Elizabeth said.

“So a new album and your biggest tour yet,” Carson said. “How does it all feel?”

“It’s so good to be back, working hard, getting my music out there to all of my fans,” Elizabeth said.

“Now a lot has happened with you since we last saw you. And we’ll get into all that after

J. Lo’s I’m Real at number 9,” Carson said.

******

“So your new album is on L&B,” Carson said. “A lot of stories have been passed around about what happened with Jive. Why don’t you give us the real story behind it to clarify and put to rest any rumors still around.”

“Mostly I just wanted control of my career and Jive wouldn’t bend. I needed to be true to myself and I couldn’t do that with Jive, so I chose to break away,” Elizabeth replied.

“But why L&B?” Carson asked.

“While all this was going on, my mother’s condition was deteriorating and I found out that my family was in Port Charles. I met with Ned Ashton at L&B after learning of the fiasco with Juan Santiago and we figured we could help each other,” Elizabeth said.

“Well it seems to be working out for you,” Carson said.

“So far, so good,” Elizabeth said.

“And your family?” Carson asked.

“My family is great,” Elizabeth said. “I’ve been blessed with a father who loves me, the best big brother you could ask for, a wonderful sister-in-law and nephew, and the greatest friends in the world.”

“And you’re still waiting for love?” Carson said. “Not dating a lot?”

“I believe that you shouldn’t spend time seeking relationships with people who are all wrong for you just to have a relationship,” Elizabeth said. “But I was lucky enough to find someone who wants me for me and he means the world to me.”

“So you’ve got everything,” Carson said.

“Everything that’s important and so much more,” Elizabeth said.

“Now the main thing that I’m sure all your female fans want to know…are you still touring with the Backstreet Boys even though you left Jive?” Carson asked.

“Yes,” Elizabeth said. “The tour will go on as planned, kicking off right here at the Garden on Friday, right after my album release party.”

“And we have several passes to that party along with tickets for that night’s show to give away in just a few minutes,” Carson said.

******

“Friday night is the party for the release of Elizabeth’s third album What You See Is What You Get and the opening of her US tour with the Backstreet Boys. Elizabeth has been kind enough to give us four invitations to be given to any one of you here today,” Carson said. “To help us give these passes away, Elizabeth would like her friends to come up here and give us a hand.”

Elizabeth looked over at her friends, who so far had blended in as just her fans. She motioned for them to join her and the girls looked at each other, excitedly. They finally moved and stood next to Elizabeth. Jason remained, shaking his head, but Elizabeth finally walked over to him, took his hand and pulled him up.

“You’re crazy,” he whispered to her moving behind her next to Carson.

“I know,” she replied.

“So how do you want to do this?” Carson asked.

“There are four groups standing up here,” Elizabeth said. “And in a minute each of us will read off a part of a lyric of one of my songs. Everyone will have a chance to answer. Whoever answers correctly, wins.”

“And you’ll watch who raises a hand first?” Carson asked.

“We will, with your help,” Elizabeth said. “You give them the mike so the can answer.”

“Okay then,” Carson said. “Who’s first?”

“Nikolas and Gia, can you read the lyric I just handed you?” Elizabeth asked.

Each group did so, including Elizabeth and a very quiet Jason. The four winners were given their prizes, an invitation for themselves and three guests for Friday’s party and four tickets to the concert.

At the end of the show, Elizabeth stayed to sign a few autographs before leaving for the fan event at Planet Hollywood.

******

The rest of Wednesday and Thursday afternoon passed quickly, moving into Thursday. Elizabeth and Jason were together, alone, at Elizabeth’s place. They’d had dinner and played some pool before settling in the hot tub. As they sat there, Elizabeth using the heat to relieve her muscles that she’d worked so hard in last minute rehearsals, Jason could tell that something was bothering her.

He knew that he should ask her, but was afraid to say anything because he knew it was their last night together, alone, for a while, and didn’t want to spend it pushing her talk or fighting with her.

“This is perfect,” Elizabeth said, settling into Jason’s embrace.

“I couldn’t think of anything better,” Jason replied.

“I can,” Elizabeth said.

She shifted in his arms so that she was straddling him and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss. Jason kissed her back deeply and tightened his hold around her waist. Things continued to get heated as Jason slid one strap of Elizabeth’s bikini off her shoulder and trailed kisses along her neck and shoulder.

“Maybe…maybe we should go upstairs,” Elizabeth said, breathlessly.

Hearing her voice, Jason pulled away.

“Elizabeth, I know what you’re thinking, but we don’t have to do this tonight,” Jason said.

“Jason, I’m leaving for at least two months and with a schedule like mine, I don’t know when I’ll be back,” Elizabeth said. “I don’t want to go away for that long and not know what it’s like to make love to you.”

“Elizabeth, I don’t want you to remake a decision like that on the basis of your leaving,” Jason replied. “I would never push you and if this isn’t want you want, completely, I can wait. I just want everything to be perfect for us.”

“And I want you to take me upstairs and make love to me,” Elizabeth said, in total seriousness, looking deeply into Jason’s eyes.

******

In Elizabeth’s bedroom, two towels were carelessly tossed on the floor and Jason and Elizabeth were standing in the middle of the room, kissing like there was no tomorrow, which, in Elizabeth’s mind, there wasn’t.

Jason slowly began walking Elizabeth to the bed and lay her down. He fumbled with the strings of her bikini top and discarded it on the floor. He covered one of her breasts in his hand and dragged his thumb across her nipple, hardening it. Lowering his mouth to her hardened nipple, his hand moved to her other breast mimicking his motion. Placing feather-light kisses between the valley of her breasts and trailing them down her stomach, Elizabeth shuddered at his every caress.

His hands settled on her hips as he slid her bikini bottoms down her legs and tossed them on the floor. He moved up to kiss her lips as one of his hands ran up her thighs, guiding her legs apart. His hand cupped her center and he groaned into her mouth when he found her already wet for him. His thumb massaged her pearl slowly as he slid two fingers inside her. Elizabeth moaned as Jason found a slow rhythm that was driving Elizabeth crazy.

“God, Jason, please don’t stop,” Elizabeth cried as Jason sent her over the edge.

She kissed him as she moved next to him when he laid on his back. He was burning to be inside of her and hearing her cry his name in a pleasure that he had given her only made him ache more for her. Catching her breath, Elizabeth tugged on Jason’s bathing suit, pulling it down and off, and took him in her hand. He jumped at her touch, not expecting it at first, but relaxed as she moved her hand slowly up and down the length of him.

“My God, Liz, if you don’t stop I won’t have anything left,” Jason said.

He swiftly moved so that he was on top of her and grabbed a condom from the bedside table. His hand shaking, he struggled to put it on, and Elizabeth lowered her hand to help him. He kissed her deeply as he entered her and began moving in and out of her as Elizabeth raised her hips to meet his thrusts.

The fell over the edge together, crying each other’s names and lay back, pleasantly exhausted.

Jason pulled Elizabeth into his arms and she rested her head on his chest. They lay in silence and tears filled Elizabeth’s eyes and fell onto Jason’s bare chest.

“Liz, are you okay?” he asked when he felt it. “Did I hurt you?”

“No,” Elizabeth said, sitting up a bit. “I just…I don’t want to go.”

“I don’t want you to leave either, but I know you don’t mean that,” Jason said. “This means everything to you. You wouldn’t give it up.”

“I know, but I’m going to miss you so much,” Elizabeth said as Jason brushed the tears from her cheeks. “Do you remember that bull I fed Carson Daly about finding love and not wasting time in dead end relationships?”

“Yeah,” Jason said.

“I only avoid relationships because I know that when I leave for months on end to tour, it’s hard. Not just on me, but on you too,” Elizabeth said.

“Liz, you know I’m going to miss you, more than anything,” Jason said. “But we can get through this. We will. I love you too much to see you give up something you love for me.”

“I love you too, Jason,” Elizabeth replied leaning up to kiss his lips.

“So are you going to be okay?” Jason asked.

“I will be,” Elizabeth said. “Once I finish the good-byes tomorrow and throw myself into the tour, it’ll be over before I know it.”

“And I’ll be here waiting for you,” Jason said.

Elizabeth smiled, closed her eyes, and fell asleep in Jason’s arms, knowing that she’d have the memories of that night to keep her going while she was away from him.

Chapter 15

Friday afternoon everyone gathered at the Rainbow Room in Manhattan for Elizabeth’s album release party. The party went on for hours, with an amazing luncheon, a room full of celebrities, and screaming fans. The atmosphere was light and everyone was happy.

“This party is amazing,” Emily said.

“I thought you’d all like it,” Elizabeth said.

Jason came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist and nuzzled her neck.

“Hi baby,” Elizabeth said.

“Can I get out of this tux soon?” Jason all but whined.

“We’ll be wrapping up in an hour and then I have to go to the venue for sound check,” Elizabeth said.

“Okay,” Jason said.

“I’ll be right back,” Elizabeth said. “I have to speak to that reporter from Teen People.”

“Sure,” Jason said.

Elizabeth hurried off and around a corner where she found Johnny.

“Johnny,” Elizabeth said. “Thank you for meeting me.”

“Sure, what’s the matter?” Johnny said.

“I got everybody something from Tiffany’s, but I didn’t get anything for Jason,” Elizabeth said. “I don’t know what to get for him.”

“You know Jason, he wouldn’t want you to get him anything,” Johnny said.

“But,” Elizabeth protested.

“Trust me, Elizabeth,” Johnny said.

“Alright,” Elizabeth said.

“Good,” Johnny said. “Now go enjoy your party.”

Elizabeth stood onstage singing for sound check while her friends and family settled in backstage. When she was finished, she and her dancers stretched out and ran through her biggest dance number. After a complete warm-up, Elizabeth went backstage while the Backstreet Boys took their time on the stage.

Having been to wardrobe, Elizabeth walked into her dressing room in a robe over her opening outfit.

“I’m on in about an hour so I have to go to hair and makeup in a few minutes, but I wanted to see how everyone was back here,” Elizabeth said.

“Elizabeth, this is so cool,” Emily exclaimed. “I mean we’re walking around the Garden like we own the place.”

“Yeah and I got to speak to Brian,” Larissa gushed. “He’s so cute.”

“Hey,” Francis said.

“Don’t take offense to that, man,” Johnny said. “Trust me.”

“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourselves,” Elizabeth said. “Help yourselves to some food and I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

Elizabeth hurried to hair and makeup to get finished up for the show and then went back to her dressing room.

“They just opened the house so you should all head to your seats,” Elizabeth said.

She went down the line hugging Ned, Alexis, Nikolas, Gia, Francis, Larissa, Johnny, Emily, Mike, Carly, Michael, and Sonny. They all walked out of her dressing room, leaving Elizabeth and Jason alone.

“Have a great show,” Jason said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said. “I will see you back here at the end.”

“Sure,” Jason said. He lowered his head to kiss her, and at the end pulled away just enough so that he was looking into her eyes. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” Elizabeth replied. She kissed him lightly and followed him out of the dressing room.

She watched as they were ushered to their seats and then joined the Brian, AJ, Howie, Kevin, and Nick. They began their pre-show ritual with some vocal warm-ups and then a prayer. The circle broke and Elizabeth began her walk to the stage to open the show.

******

The lights dimmed and the music started as the first of the fireworks went off and Elizabeth was first seen on the stage. Making her way down the stairs and onto the main stage, Elizabeth began to sing.

You used to say that I was special
Everything was right
But now you think I'm wearing too much make-up
That my dress is too tight
You got no reasons to be jealous
I've never been untrue
So does it really matter if they're looking
I'm only looking at you
You should never try to change me
I can be nobody else
And I like the way I am

What you see is what you get
This is me, hey you
If you want me, don't forget
You should take me as I am
'Cause I can promise you
Baby, what you see is what you get

I know you watch me when I'm dancing'
When I party with me friends
I can feel your eyes on my back, baby
I can't have no chains around me, baby can't you see
I could be anything you dream of, but I gotta feel free
You should never try to change me
I can be nobody else
And I like the way I am

What you see is what you get
This is me, hey you
If you want me, don't forget
You should take me as I am
'Cause I can promise you
Baby, what you see is what you get

You should never try to change me
I can be nobody else
Believe me, you'll be looking for trouble if you hurt me
I can promise you, you'll be looking for trouble
Believe me, yeah yeah yeah yeah

What you see is what you get
This is me, hey you
If you want me, don't forget
You should take me as I am
'Cause I can promise you
Baby, what you see is what you get

After an earth-shattering opening number, Elizabeth addressed the crowd.

“What’s up New York?” Elizabeth said. “It is so great to be back here with all of you celebrating the release of my third album and biggest tour and it’s so great to be sharing the stage with the Backstreet Boys. They’ll be out a little later, but first I wanted to thank all of you for being here tonight and for supporting my music. Everything I do is for all of my fans. So get ready to dance and sing along and just let loose and enjoy the show. Here’s one of my older songs that now holds new meaning.”

Miracles happen, miracles happen
You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, miracles happen

I can't imagine living my life without you now
Not ever having you around
We found our way out
(On you I can depend)
Don't have to look back to realize how far we've come
There are million reasons
I'm looking up
I don't want this to end

Nothing
Nothing should ever bring you down
Knowing what goes around will come around

You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
When you believe
(Miracles happen)
You showed me dreams come to light
That taking a chance on us was right
All things will come with a little time
When you believe

There is no question we found the missing pieces
Our picture is complete
It's fallen into place
(It's fallen into place)
This is out moment, you and I are looking up
Someone is watching over us
Keeping me close
Closer to you everyday

Nowhere
Nowhere on earth I’d rather be
No one can take this away from you and me

You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
When you believe
(Miracles happen)
You showed me dreams come to light
That taking a chance on us was right
All things will come with a little time
When you believe

When you believe
The soul is a shining light
When you believe
The heart has the will to fight
You can do anything, don't be afraid
We're gonna find our way

You showed me faith is not blind
I don't need wings to help me fly
Miracles happen, once in a while
When you believe
(Miracles happen)
You showed me dreams come to light
That taking a chance on us was right
All things will come with a little time
When You believe

In the audience, Elizabeth’s friends and family were captivated. She had an amazing stage presence and everyone could tell that she loved every minute of her performance.

After Miracles Happen, Elizabeth went into a skit with two of her dancers, one guy playing her boyfriend and the girl he was cheating with. They went through a club scene and Elizabeth broke into Stronger.

Hush, just stop
There’s nothing you can do or say, baby
I’ve had enough
I’m not your property as from today, baby
You might think that I won't make it on my own
But now I’m…

Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I’m stronger

That I ever thought that I could be, baby
I used to go with the flow
Didn’t really care ‘bout me
You might think that I can’t take it, but you’re wrong
‘Cause now I’m…

Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I’m stronger

Come on, now
Oh, yeah

Here I go, on my own
I don’t need nobody, better off alone
Here I go, on my own now
I don’t need nobody, not anybody
Here I go, alright, here I go

Stronger than yesterday
Now it’s nothing but my way
My loneliness ain’t killing me no more
I’m stronger

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said bowing and waving to the crowd. “The Backstreet Boys are coming up next so sit tight and I’ll be back a little later.”

******

After an up-tempo opening set from the Backstreet Boys, the lights went down and a new set was arranged on the stage. When the lights went up, Elizabeth was sitting on a bed, writing in a diary. The spotlight fell on her and she began to sing.

Dear diary
Today I saw a boy
And I wondered if he noticed me
He took my breath away

Dear diary
I can't get him off my mind
And it scares me
'Cause I've never felt this way

No one in this world
Knows me better than you do
So diary I'll confide in you

Dear diary
Today I saw a boy
As he walked by I thought he smiled at me

And I wondered
Does he know what's in my heart
I tried to smile, but I could hardly breathe

Should I tell him how I feel
Or would that scare him away
Diary, tell me what to do
Please tell me what to say

Dear diary
One touch of his hand
Now I can't wait to see that boy again

He smiled
And I thought my heart could fly
Diary, do you think that we'll be more than friends?
I've got a feeling we'll be so much more

At the end of the song, Elizabeth rested the diary next to her and stood up. When she walked to the front of the stage, the crowd could see more clearly that Elizabeth was barefoot, dressed in overalls and a mid-drift white halter. She sat on the edge of the stage, her feet dangling over the edge and moved into her next number.

I'm sitting here alone up in my room
And thinking about the times that we've been through (oh my love)
I'm looking at a picture in my hand
Trying my best to understand
I really wanna know what we did wrong
With the love that felt so strong
If only you were here tonight
I know that we could make it right

I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy
'Cause your the only one within my heart
I was born to make you happy
Always and forever you and me
That’s the way our life should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy

I know I've been a fool since you've been gone
I'd rather give it up then carry on (oh my love)
'Cause living' in a dream of you and me
Is not the way my life should be
I don't wanna cry a tear for you
So forgive me if I do
If only you were here tonight
I know that we could make it right

I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy
'Cause your the only one within my heart
I was born to make you happy
Always and forever you and me
That’s the way our life should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy

I'd do anything
I'd give you my world
I'd wait forever to be your girl
Just call out my name (just call out my name)
I will be there (and I will be there)
Just to show you how much I care

I don’t know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy
'Cause your the only one within my heart
I was born to make you happy
Always and forever you and me
That’s the way our life should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy

I was born to make you happy

Always and forever you and me
That’s the way our life should be
I don't know how to live without your love
I was born to make you happy

Mid-song Elizabeth stood up and began to walk around the stage moving back and forth and settling in the end at the piano that was in her room set.

She began to play the introduction to her next song and Sonny was mesmerized at the new talent he’d learned his sister had. Her other friends sat contently, enthralled with her performance. Michael was settled in Carly’s lap; a big smile across his face as Elizabeth began to sing.

I'll give my all, or not at all
There's no in-between
I'll give my best, won't second guess
This feeling' deep in me

You make me want to love you
With every breath I'll love you, (oh) endlessly
I'll give my heart, give my soul
I won't hold back, I'll give you everything
All of me, completely

You fill me up with your love
Oh, I just overflow
When we touch, can't get enough
And I want you to know

You make me want to love you
With every breath I'll love you, (oh) endlessly
I'll give my heart, give my soul
I won't hold back, I'll give you everything
All of me, completely

Elizabeth sang the last chorus of the song, standing in the front of the stage, her eyes locked with Jason’s. When she was finished, she bowed and ran offstage.

After the Backstreet Boys’ second set, Elizabeth walked back onstage wearing a simple black dress, holding a hand-held microphone. When she reached the center of the stage, she turned and faced the crowd and raced the microphone.

“I’m back,” Elizabeth said. “I hope you’re not getting tired of me. This song was a special addition to tonight’s performance because someone very important to me is in the audience tonight.”

Elizabeth walked to the edge of the stage and took Max’s hand as he helped her step down onto the floor. The crowd, especially the first few rows, went wild as Elizabeth walked along the front row and stopped in front of Carly.

Carly smiled and Michael slid off her lap and took Elizabeth’s hand. The two walked to the stairs at the side of the stage and walked up them and across the stage.

“This is my nephew, Michael,” Elizabeth said. “Michael, do you want to say hello?”

Michael nodded and said hello, softly into the microphone.

“When I first met Michael, he told me that Hanging On For Dear Life was his favorite song and he listened to it every night. And every night that I’m with him, I sing it to him myself, so I thought that before I left home, I should sing it to him one more time.”

Elizabeth lifted Michael up and sat him on a stool facing her, smiled at him, and began to sing.

A mind can sure get weary
The way things come undone
With eyes that won't see clearly
And a heart that's overrun

You keep hoping things will get better
That you'll find a way through it all
You must hold on to what you believe

When the sky's about to fall

So keep hanging on

The hands of time just keep turning around
There's no telling where you'll find the strength to climb
So just stand your ground

All through the night
'Till you can see the light
Keep hanging on for dear life

A spirit can get battered
As you journey down the years
And if dreams were all that mattered
You'd be miles away from here

Just keep thinking things will be different
That you'll find a place in the sun
Hold your head up high in that stormy sky

And the change will surely come

So keep hanging on

The hands of time just keep turning around
There's no telling where you'll find the strength to climb
So just stand your ground

All through the night
'Till you can see the light
Keep hanging on for dear life

Never you mind what you've been told
Someday you'll have all the love one heart can hold

So keep hanging on

The hands of time just keep turning around
There's no telling where you'll find the strength to climb
So just stand your ground

All through the night
'Till you can see the light
Keep hanging on for dear life

When she finished, Elizabeth helped Michael off the stool and walked him back to his seat, kissed his cheek, smiled at Carly and Sonny and walked back towards the stage. She waved to the crowd and walked backstage for another wardrobe change while Backstreet did another number.

******

As the Backstreet Boys exited the stage, the lights dimmed and strobe lights in various colors began flashing across the stage. Music began and Elizabeth, leading her female dancers, strutted onstage with a new attitude matching her clothes, black leather pants and a silver tank top. She and her dancers paired off with the male dancers and one of Elizabeth’s most powered numbers began.

Yeah, I was right there like a little wife
I was everything that you need, always in line
I was living you, loving you
Filling your desires
But that was then, this is now
Look me in the eye and

Oh, oh
If love could choose sides
Oh, oh
It's taking my time

Get over yourself, goodbye
It must be hard to be you, yeah, living in your life
I was always the one to cry
Now everything, everything, everything is alright
Get over yourself, know why
'Cause without you, see I do anything I like
Sometimes I stay out all night
And everything, everything, everything is alright

This just can't be it I kept telling myself
And every magazine said was me was on the shelf
I was giving out, giving in
Giving away my dreams
You put it in, put me down
Now I got my self-esteem

Oh, oh
Won't get me back, no
Oh, oh (no no)
Get over it, yeah

Get over yourself, goodbye
It must be hard to be you, yeah, living in your life
I was always the one to cry
Now everything, everything, everything is alright
Get over yourself, know why
'Cause without you, see I do anything I like
Sometimes I stay out all night
And everything, everything, everything is alright

So now you wanna talk
Say let's do it just once more for luck
Like old times make up
Better yet, just forget
Better get over yourself

Stay in touch
When you learn a few things about love (tell me baby)
So then wake up
Better yet, better get
Better get over yourself

Get over yourself, goodbye (over yourself, goodbye)
Over yourself, over yourself
Get over yourself, goodbye (over yourself, goodbye)
Over yourself, over yourself

Get over yourself, goodbye
'Cause without you, see I do anything I like
Sometimes I stay out all night
And everything, everything, everything is alright

Get over yourself, goodbye
It must be hard to be you, yeah, living in your life
I was always the one to cry
Now everything, everything, everything is alright
Get over yourself, know why
'Cause without you, see I do anything I like
Sometimes I stay out all night
And everything, everything, everything is alright

Get over yourself, goodbye (everything is alright)
Everything is alright (get over yourself)
Get over yourself, goodbye (everything is alright)
Everything is alright (get over yourself)
Get over yourself, goodbye

At the end of the show, both Elizabeth and the Backstreet Boys came out onstage together to sing the finale, a song co-written by Elizabeth, Brian, and Nick.

We've been through days of thunder
Some people say they don't belong
They try to put us under
But can we stand together and a million strong?

Let's get on with the show (Let's get started)
Turn the lights down low (Turn the lights down low)
You were there from the start (You were there)
We know who you are
And this one goes out to you

Everyone, everyone, everyone
Said this one goes out to you
Everyone, wish they had showed us what you done
And this one goes out to you

We've been inside the circus (circus music plays a bit)
We take the pleasure with the pain
I guess there's something about us
Whatever comes around we'll always stay the same
Oh yeah

Let's get on with the show (Oh Let's get started)
Turn the lights down low (Turn the lights down low)
You were there from the start (You were there)
We know who you are
We know, who you are

Everyone, everyone, everyone
Said this one goes out to you
Everyone, wish they had showed us what you done
And this one goes out to you

Now we're minutes away
Till it's time to play
Our heart beats are rising
They're letting you in
Time for the show to begin

We, wish they had showed us what you done
This one goes out to you you you
You make us feel like we've just begun
And this one goes out to you

Everyone, everyone, everyone
Said this one goes out to you
Everyone, wish they had showed us what you done
And this one goes out to you

Everyone, everyone, everyone
Said this one goes out to you
Everyone, wish they had showed us what you done
And this one goes out to you

Twenty minutes later, Elizabeth was dressed in drawstring sweats and a white tank top standing outside her bus with her friends and family. Next to her was a large shopping bag.

“Okay,” Elizabeth said. “On our shopping spree the other day I got several things from Tiffany’s. God, I feel like Santa Claus. Okay, who wants a present? And don’t open them until everyone has one.”

First she took out a box and stepped towards Mike.

“Daddy, I wanted to get you something so that you would have something from me while I was gone,” Elizabeth said. She handed him the box and went back over to the bag, taking several more boxes out and walked towards Sonny, Carly, and Michael.

“Carly, this is for you,” Elizabeth said, handing her a box. “And the second one’s for Michael.”

“Thank you,” Carly said.

“And this one’s for you Sonny,” Elizabeth said. “And don’t tell me I didn’t have to get you anything. I wanted to.”

Sonny laughed and took the box that Elizabeth gave him.

Next she moved to Francis, Larissa, Nikolas, Gia, Johnny, and Emily.

“These are for you three,” Elizabeth said to Nikolas, Francis, and Johnny. “Because I’m taking you away with me for the next two months. And these are for you girls, because I’m stealing your boyfriends.”

They all laughed as Elizabeth handed out six more boxes.

“Okay, you can open them now,” Elizabeth said.

Everyone opened their boxes and was shocked at what they each held.

In Mike’s, Sonny’s, Nikolas’, Francis’, and Johnny’s boxes were Rolex watches, which run for a grand and up. In Carly’s box was a diamond pendant necklace. In Michael’s box, which was the largest, was a 24 kt. Gold frame that held a copy of the gold single Hanging On For Dear Life and they lyrics. In Gia, Emily, and Larissa’s boxes were all matching diamond tennis bracelets.

“Girl, you have lost your mind,” Gia said.

“I take it you like them,” Elizabeth said.

Everyone thanked her with a hug and they began to say their goodbyes.

Ten minutes later, Elizabeth had gotten to everyone except Jason.

“Elizabeth, we’re pulling out in two,” Nick called form their bus.

“Jason,” Elizabeth said, stepping in front of him. “I have to go now.”

“I know,” Jason said, softly as Elizabeth’s eyes filled with tears.

“I’m going to miss you,” she said.

“I’m going to miss you too,” Jason replied.

“I’ll see you soon,” Elizabeth said. “And I’ll call you everyday.”

“Have fun,” Jason said. “And be careful.”

“I will,” Elizabeth replied. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” Jason said.

He pulled her into his arms and kissed her. He felt her salty tears on his lips as she opened her mouth to him and he felt his own eyes water a little. They pulled apart, reluctantly and Elizabeth took one last look at her friends and family before boarding her bus.

As the bus rode away, Elizabeth opened the window and waved to everyone.

“You gonna be okay man?” Sonny asked Jason when the bus was out of sight.

“You better keep me busy because I’m going to miss her and I'm going to need a lot to keep me occupied,” Jason replied.

“Will do,” Sonny said.

Jason took one last look in the direction that the bus went and a tear rolled down his cheek. God he was going to miss her.

Chapter 16

One month later…

Elizabeth was sitting on her bus with papers strewn around her, her laptop in front of her.

“God, this is impossible,” Elizabeth said throwing another crumpled piece of paper.

“You okay?” Brian asked as he and Nick sat beside her.

“I’ve had the music for this song in my head forever and I finally started writing lyrics the other day and now I’ve got things stuck in my head,” Elizabeth said frustrated.

“Why don’t we help you and then you’ll get two great songs out of it?” Brian offered.

“Actually, the second one’s heading towards being for you guys,” Elizabeth said.

“In that case, we have to help,” Nick said.

The three of the, sprawled out on the floor surrounded by papers and opened Elizabeth’s music writing program.

******

Meanwhile, back in Port Charles…

Jason was at his desk at the warehouse trying desperately to concentrate. For the past four weeks it had been the same process. Go to work and stare at the papers that piled up on his desk while his thoughts drifted elsewhere.

Flashback

“Who are you?”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know he was with you. I must’ve misunderstood,” Jason said. “I’m Jason Morgan.”

“Elizabeth Corinthos,” she said, taking Jason’s outstretched hand in he own.

******

“Jason wait,” Elizabeth said.

Jason turned back towards Elizabeth when he heard her call his name.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said.

He walked back over to her and she kissed his check lightly.

******

“So I’ll see you around?” Elizabeth said.

“Sure,” Jason said.

******

“Did Lucky do this to you?” Jason asked.

“Last night on my bus,” Elizabeth said.

“I’m gonna kill him,” Jason said, angrily.

******

“Let me get you off your feet,” Jason said, picking her up again. “So, where to?”

“Um, I think that you and I should talk,” Elizabeth said. ”Away from everyone else.”

“Why don’t I have Francis drive us back to your place and we can talk there,” Jason said. “Because you’re right, we have a lot to talk about.”

******

******

“I don’t want to go away for that long and not know what it’s like to make love to you.”

“Elizabeth, I don’t want you to make a decision like that on the basis of your leaving,” Jason replied. “I would never push you and if this isn’t what you want, completely, I can wait. I just want everything to be perfect for us.”

“And I want you to take me upstairs and make love to me,” Elizabeth said, in total seriousness, looking deeply into Jason’s eyes.

End flashback

“Focus Morgan,” Jason said to himself. “You’ve got work to do.”

******

On her bus, somewhere in California, Elizabeth, Brian, and Nick were hard at work writing, and were having great success.

“Hey Elizabeth,” Johnny said. “Jason’s on the phone.”

Elizabeth jumped up excitedly to take the phone from Johnny, stepping on Brian and Nick in the process.

“Hi baby,” Elizabeth said.

“Wreaking havoc on your bus?” Jason asked, hearing shouting in the background.

“Of course not,” Elizabeth said sweetly. “So how are you?”

“I’m good,” Jason said. “I miss you.”

“I miss you too,” Elizabeth said walking away from Nick, Brian, and Johnny towards the back of her bus. “How is everybody at home?”

“They’re fine,” Jason replied. “They all miss you, Michael especially.”

Their conversation went on for half an hour until there was a knock on Jason’s office door.

“I have to get back to work,” Jason said. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”

“I’ll be here,” Elizabeth said.

“I love you,” Jason said.

“I love you too,” Elizabeth said.

“Bye baby,” Jason said.

“Bye,” Elizabeth replied.

******

“Sonny, what’s up?” Jason asked, hanging up the phone.

“First off, how’s Elizabeth?” Sonny asked.

“She’s good,” Jason replied. “Working hard, but having fun, and missing all of us.”

“As long as she’s happy,” Sonny said.

“So what else is going on?” Jason asked.

“Taggert’s here,” Sonny said. “He’s not his typical self. Something’s up.”

“What kind of something?” Jason asked.

“I don’t know, but we have to find out,” Sonny said.

******

“How are things at home?” Johnny asked when Elizabeth joined him and Francis at the table in the kitchen area of the bus.

“Things are great,” Elizabeth said. “Everyone misses us as much as we miss them.”

“That’s nice to hear,” Francis said. “So are you worried about doing this LA show tomorrow night?”

“I have no reason to be,” Elizabeth said. “I mean yes, Lucky’s here, but he’s in prison where he belongs. I have nothing to worry about. Besides, that’s why I have you two.”

******

“Taggert,” Jason said, walking into Sonny’s office with Sonny.

“I know I told Alexis that I’d stay away from here, but I need to speak to you. It’s urgent,” Taggert said.

“What is this about?” Jason asked.

“Elizabeth,” Taggert said.

“I just spoke to her,” Jason said. “Everything’s fine.”

“I know she’s on the road right now with the Backstreet Boys,” Taggert said. “Do you know what city she’s heading to?”

“She has a show in LA tomorrow night,” Jason said. “They got into California this morning and are driving through until tomorrow afternoon.”

“You’ve got to get her out of there,” Taggert said. “Now!”

“What’s going on?” Jason said. “Is Liz in danger?”

“Lucas Lorenzo escaped from prison in Los Angeles this morning,” Taggert said.

Chapter 17

“Liz, we’re stopping for dinner in two minutes,” her manager, Matt called over the walkie-talkie sitting on the table.

“Anything but McDonald’s,” Liz replied.

“It’s Howie’s pick tonight,” Matt said. “Wake him up and ask him what he wants.”

“At least I know it won’t be McDonald’s,” Liz said with a laugh, sliding out of her chair.

“Sonny would kill you if he saw how you eat on the road,” Johnny said.

“Well, next time, he can come and cook for us every night,” Liz said.

“I like the sound of that,” Francis said.”

Liz, Johnny, and Francis left and Liz went over to the bunks to find Howie.

******

“What do you mean, he escaped?” Jason said, angrily.

“Apparently he had help, but the LA County Officials don’t know yet who it was,” Taggert said.

“And they have no idea where he’s going?” Sonny asked.

“I’ll tell you where he’s going,” Jason said. “He’s heading straight for Liz.”

“We’ve got to tell her,” Sonny said. “She’s got to come home.”

******

Liz and BSB’s bus pulled into the parking lot of Chinese Cuisine, Howie’s restaurant of choice, followed by the two buses and four truck entourage.

Everyone moved off the buses and gathered inside the restaurant. They formed some sense of order and placed their orders.

Liz’s phone rang and rang, but she didn’t hear it over all the noise.

******

“Damn it,” Jason said, angrily. “She’s not answering.”

“Try Johnny and Francis’ phones,” Sonny said.

After fifteen minutes, Johnny finally answered her phone.

“Didn’t you hear the God damn phone?” Jason yelled when Johnny picked up.

“Jason, calm down,” Sonny said, taking the phone from him. “Sorry, Johnny.”

“What’s the matter with him?” Johnny asked.

“Jason’s a little tense,” Sonny replied. “We’ve got a problem.”

“What’s going on?” Johnny asked.

“Lucas Lorenzo escaped,” Sonny said.

“Lucas Lorenzo?” Johnny asked, confused.

“Lucky, Elizabeth’s stalker,” Sonny said. “And you are too close to where he is.”

“What do we do?” Johnny asked.

“Are you stopping at a hotel for the night?” Sonny asked.

“In about an hour,” Johnny said.

“When you get there, stay there,” Sonny said. “Call a meeting with everyone and tell them what’s going on. Jason, Max, and I will be there as soon as we can.”

“Okay,” Johnny said.

“And Johnny, take care of Elizabeth,” Sonny said.

“I’ll protect her no matter what,” Johnny said.

******

At the hotel, in Elizabeth’s suite…

The room was packed with everyone on the crew, the bands, dancers, management, the Backstreet Boys, security, Francis, Johnny, and Elizabeth.

“What exactly is going on?” Matt, Liz’s manager asked.

“We are officially on lockdown until further notice,” Johnny said. “Lucas Lorenzo escaped and Elizabeth will be in his direct line of fire when he tracks her down. My bosses are on the way here and it will be handled, but until then, we have to be extra careful.”

“Your bosses?” Lonnie asked.

“My brother and my boyfriend,” Liz explained.

“You’ve got mob ties?” Matt asked.

“Let’s focus on the important thing here,” Francis said. “Johnny what’s the plan?”

“Mr. Corinthos and Mr. Morgan will be arriving late this evening,” Johnny began. “Elizabeth is never to be left alone. Francis and I will be with her at all times and she will not be leaving the hotel. I’m sorry, Elizabeth, but it’s too dangerous.”

“No, I understand,” Liz replied. “Sonny and Jason are coming?”

“Yes,” Johnny said. “And I should warn you, they’ll probably get crazy with the protection deal, but just remember it’s for your own good.”

“I know,” Liz said. “I’ll just be happy to see them both.”

“Just remember to keep your guard up,” Johnny said. “At all times.”

“I will,” Liz said.

“You can all go,” Johnny said.

Once everyone left the room, Elizabeth turned to Johnny.

“What makes everyone think that Lucky’s coming after me?” she asked.

“We don’t know, yet,” Johnny said. “But it’s the strongest possibility right now.”

“Oh,” Elizabeth said through a yawn.

“You tired?” Francis asked.

“Exhausted. I guess all the shows are starting to catch up with me,” Elizabeth said. “but I want to see Sonny and Jason tonight, so I guess sleep will have to wait.”

“They won’t be here for at least another four hours,” Francis said. “Why don’t you get some sleep first and we’ll wake you when they get here.”

“That sounds really good,” Liz said walking towards the bed, yawning continuously.

She sat on the bed and pulled her legs up, resting her head on the pillow. Within minutes, she was in a deep sleep. Johnny pulled a blanket over her and he and Francis settled at the table to play cards while she slept.

******

It was around eleven o’clock when Jason and Sonny arrived at the hotel. They went straight to Elizabeth’s room where she was still sleeping. They were quiet walking in and Jason told them not to wake Elizabeth even after Johnny had told them that she had asked Francis to.

Once they worked out a basic plan, Johnny, Sonny, and Francis went to their rooms adjoining Elizabeth’s and Jason kicked off his boots and laid on the bed beside Elizabeth, pulling her into his arms.

Chapter 18

Elizabeth sat up in bed, hearing the door of her room open. She blinked to adjust her eyes to the light and saw Lucky standing at the foot of her bed.

“You can’t escape me, Elizabeth,” Lucky said. “Even prison didn’t keep us apart.”

“No. No, you’re not here,” Elizabeth said, her eyes filling with tears.

“Yes, baby, I’m right here,” Lucky said. “And now you have to pay for what you did to me. You sent me to prison, and you betrayed me by being with Jason.”

“You can’t do this,” Elizabeth said. “Jason’s here with me. He won’t let you touch me.”

“Sorry sweetie, but Jason’s gone,” Lucky said.

Elizabeth looked over and saw that Jason was not lying beside her.

“What did you do to him?” Elizabeth asked.

“He had to learn that he shouldn’t have taken you away from me,” Lucky said.

“Where is Jason, Lucky?” Elizabeth cried.

“He’s gone, Elizabeth,” Lucky said. “He’ll never come between us again.”

“No,” Elizabeth screamed. “No!”

******

Elizabeth was tossing and turning in her sleep, mumbling.

“No,” Elizabeth said, tears running down her face. “No, Lucky. No, Jason’s still here.”

Jason heard her and tried to wake her up.

“Liz, come on, baby, wake up. Liz, you’re dreaming, wake up,” Jason said.

“Wha…” Liz breathed, shooting straight up in bed. Jason sat up, rubbing her back, soothingly, whispering to her softly.

“It was just a dream, Liz,” Jason said. “It was just a dream.”

“Jason?” Liz said. “Are you really here?”

“I’m here,” Jason said, pulling Liz into her arms.

“It was horrible, Jason,” Liz said. “Lucky was here and he told me that he killed you and that I was his and…”

“Sh, sh, sh,” Jason said, rubbing her back again. “It’s over, baby. It wasn’t real.”

“Promise me you’ll never leave, Jason,” Liz said. “Promise me.”

“I promise, baby,” Jason replied. “I’ll always be here for you. Do you want to try to go back to sleep?”

“No, I want to make love to you,” Elizabeth said.

“Liz, I don’t think that’s a good idea right now,” Jason replied.

“Please, Jason,” Elizabeth said, swiftly pulling Jason’s shirt over his head. “I want you. I need you. Now.”

It was the please that really got Jason. He heard the desperation and love in her voice and knew that he couldn’t deny her.

He laid her back on the bed and lowered his head to kiss her. She immediately opened her mouth to him and his hands went to the end of the tee shirt of his that she was wearing. He pulled it over her head and tossed it to the floor. He cupped her breast in his hand and dragged his thumb across her hardening nipple. He repeated the process with her other breast before letting his hand slide down her bare stomach and drifting dangerously lower. His mouth moved from her lips to her neck as his hand found her center, already wet for him. His thumb found her pearl as his tongue flicked her earlobe before his mouth met hers again. As he slid two fingers into her, he slipped his tongue past her lips, exploring every part of her mouth. Elizabeth cried his name in pleasure as Jason sent her over the edge. When she had recovered, her hand moved to the waist of jeans and opened them, sliding the zipper down and pulling them off. She removed his boxers in a second swift motion and took him in her hand. She slowly moved her hand up and down the length of him as Jason’s breathing became more erratic. When she knew he was close, she released him and he groaned.

“Why’d did you stop?” he almost whined.

“Last time you told me to stop or you wouldn’t be able to finish,” Liz said with a wicked smile. “And I want you to finish.”

“My god, woman,” Jason said.

He reached over the bed and pulled his wallet from his jeans pocket, pulled a condom out, tossed the wallet and the condom wrapping to the floor, and quickly put the condom in place.

He lowered himself over her and entered her in one smooth motion. Liz gasped at how he filled her, remembering how it had felt the last time. After a moment, he began to move in and out of her, finding the rhythm that belonged only to him and Elizabeth.

“Jason,” Elizabeth cried as Jason simultaneously cried her name.

They came back down to earth together and Jason rolled off of her.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said resting her head on his bare chest.

Jason kissed her forehead and the two drifted off to sleep.

******

The next morning, Jason woke up to find Elizabeth already showered and dressed.

“Morning Jason,” Elizabeth said.

“Good morning, baby,” Jason replied.

“Sonny wants to see us both in twenty minutes so if you want to shower, do it now,” Elizabeth said.

“Okay,” Jason said.

“And I’m going to get some breakfast,” Elizabeth added. “Do you want a cup of coffee?”

“Coffee sounds great,” Jason said.

“Alright,” Elizabeth said. “I’ll be back in a few.”

******

Twenty minutes later, Elizabeth and Jason walked into Sonny’s room where Sonny, Johnny, and Francis were already waiting.

Jason sat on the couch and pulled Elizabeth into his lap.

“Morning guys,” Elizabeth said cheerfully.

“I’m sure it is,” Sonny said. “First of all, next time the to of you decide to…do what you did last night, you might want to make sure that we’re not in such close quarters, okay? Bella, you’re my baby sister and I really didn’t need to hear that.”

Jason and Elizabeth looked at each other and laughed. Sonny’s face turned redder. He had had a hard enough time mentioning it, but now they were laughing at him? Sonny didn’t think that it was funny.

“Okay, okay, we’re sorry,” Elizabeth said.

“Good,” Sonny said. “Anyway, we’ve made it through the night without incident, but we have to figure out what to do next. We definitely can’t stay here and Port Charles is the first place he’d look, so we need to think of something else.”

“What about Martinique, Sonny?” Jason asked. “It’s the most private place I can think of and there’s no way he could get overseas with or without a passport.”

“It could work,” Sonny said. “We have to move as fast possible. Bella, what do you need to do to arrange this for yourself?”

“I can’t just cancel a tour with no explanation so I need to set up a press conference or something of that nature,” Liz said.

“What about Nikolas?” Sonny asked. “Can’t he do it?”

“Technically yes, he could or Matt or the Boys,” Elizabeth said. “But it would be better if fans saw my face or they might worry. Plus, that’s how rumors get started.”

“What if you record a message and have it sent to all the radio and television stations that would run it?” Francis suggested. “That way, your fans will see you and hear the truth and then you can get safely to the island.”

“Perfect,” Elizabeth said. “We can film it in here in about an hour and fly out as soon as we’re finished.”

“Francis, find Matt and Nikolas and set it up,” Sonny said.

******

Two hours later, Elizabeth, joined by Max, Francis, Johnny, Sonny, and Jason, was en route to Martinique. Nikolas, the crews, management, security, and the Boys were on various flights going home.

Elizabeth was flipping through the channels on television, while Sonny, Jason, Francis, Johnny, and Max were having yet another meeting on how they could best keep Elizabeth safe.

“At the island, someone is with her or near her at all times,” Sonny said. “There is no room for error here; Lorenzo won’t think twice before hurting her. Or worse.”

“And keep her occupied with something. A game, a conversation, let her write her music, just anything to keep her mind off this,” Jason said. “She’s scared enough of him, but she’s miserable about postponing the tour, whether she’ll admit it to you or not.”

“Any questions?” Sonny asked. “Good. And just remember, she is protected at all costs.”

******

Elizabeth continued to flip channels until she paused on MTV during a news update. She saw her picture appear on-screen and flashed back to the filming of her statement.

Flashback…

“Hello,” Elizabeth began. “It is with a deep regret that I bring you this message today. Due to circumstances beyond my control or the control of the Backstreet Boys, our tour has been postponed until further notice. For those of you who have not yet heard, a man by the name of Lucas Lorenzo, who calls himself Lucky, escaped from a Los Angeles prison early yesterday morning. Lucas Lorenzo was known by my family, friends, and coworkers as my stalker. He is an extremely dangerous and violent man and at this time we feel that myself, those who work with me, and my fans would be safer if concerts were put on hold until this matter is resolved. Please know that I am safe and that I will be back on stage as soon as possible. Thank you.

End flashback…

“Miss. Corinthos is currently safe and unavailable for further comment,” MTV VJ Brian McFayden said. “If you’d like to send her a message you can do so on her website, www.elizabethc.com.

“They ran it, you guys,” Elizabeth called.

“Good,” Sonny said, walking in with Jason, Johnny, Francis, and Max.

“So what now?” Elizabeth asked.

“We wait,” Jason said, sitting beside her and wrapping his arms around her.

******

Meanwhile…

“I must thank you, Mr. Sorel, for everything that you have done for me,” a muffled voice said.

“Of course, Mr. Lorenzo,” Sorel replied. “But don’t forget, we made a bargain, and both ends must be completed.”

“I understand,” Lucky said. “And I have planned this perfectly in my head. Prison gives you a lot of time to think.”

“That it does,” Sorel said.

“And the plan is absolutely genius,” Lucky said. “They’ll be all settled, believing that it’s over and that they’re safe. They’ll never know what hit them.”

Lucky and Sorel’s voices dissolved into evil laughter.

Chapter 19

The plane had landed in Martinique over two hours ago and it was now early evening. Liz had just gotten off the phone with Emily, Larissa, and Gia to let them know what was going on, that everyone was safe, and for Gia, that Nikolas was on his way home.

“Elizabeth,” Johnny and Francis said walking into the living room.

“Hey guys,” Elizabeth replied.

“We just wanted to know if you were hungry,” Francis said.

“Starving,” Elizabeth replied. “Is Sonny making dinner?”

“He’s in the kitchen now,” Johnny replied.

“And Jason?” Elizabeth asked.

“He’s checking on surveillance,” Johnny replied.

“Again?” Elizabeth asked. “Could you please tell him that I’d rather he was with me than walking around the island?”

“Of course, Elizabeth,” Francis said.

“Thank you,” Elizabeth replied.

******

Jason walked into the house through the kitchen where Sonny was cooking dinner.

“Is everything set up outside?” Sonny asked.

“It’s all been checked and double-checked. There’s not a chance that anyone could get in here,” Jason said.

“Good,” Sonny said. “Now go spend some time with her.”

“What?” Jason asked.

“Elizabeth asked that you spend time with her. She wants to be with you while we’re here. She misses you,” Sonny said. “And I know you’ve missed her, so stop worrying about what could happen and go sit with her; read with her, sit with her while she writes, watch a movie with her, just go be with her.”

“I get the idea, Sonny. I’m going,” Jason said.

******

Meanwhile, somewhere in California…

“Mr. Sorel, it’s a pleasure,” Lucky said walking inside Sorel’s hotel room.

“Mr. Lorenzo,” Sorel said. “I trust no one has noticed your presence.”

“Not at all,” Lucky said.

“Good. I’d like you to meet Carl,” Sorel said.

“My God,” Lucky said, shaking the other man’s hand. “The resemblance is amazing. How did you do this?”

“Plastic surgery is a miracle worker,” Carl said.

“I mean you look just like me,” Lucky said.

“And your plan is perfect,” Sorel said. “They’ll think you’re in jail, you’ll get Elizabeth, and I’ll be able to get Corinthos and Morgan out of my way.”

******

Jason walked into the living room and found Elizabeth staring out at the beach from the balcony.

“Liz?” Jason said walking out onto the balcony.

“Hey,” Elizabeth said. “Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Not as beautiful as you, but yeah pretty much,” Jason replied.

“You are so sweet,” Elizabeth said, kissing his lips lightly.

“We could go on the beach and see it closer, if you want,” Jason said.

“Can we?” Elizabeth asked, her face brightening.

“Of course,” Jason replied. “You’re not a prisoner here. As long as we’re careful, you can move around the island.”

“Thank you,” Elizabeth said, wrapping her arms tightly around Jason’s neck.

“Come on,” Jason said. “If we hurry, you’ll have time to watch the sunset before Sonny finishes dinner.”

******

Two days later, life on the island appeared seemingly normal. Elizabeth moved around freely, Jason with her at all times. The two of them were so caught up in being together, that the threat of Lucas Lorenzo was only a distant thought.

Back in Los Angeles, Lucky, Sorel, and Carl prepared to make their move.

“Now Carl will get arrested,” Sorel said. “You must stay out of sight for a few weeks before you make your move. It is now May 5th. The best time for this to go down will be the Nurses Ball in Port Charles. They’ll never see it coming and they’re guaranteed to be in the same place at the same time.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Lucky said. “So Carl, you know what to do?”

“I’ll start heading to New York and along the way I get arrested,” Carl replied. “They’ll believe that you’re back in prison and get on with their lives.”

“Right,” Lucky said. “Now make sure you don’t screw up.”

******

Back on the island, Elizabeth awoke in Jason’s arms for the third morning in a row. She reached over the side of the bed and pulled Jason’s tee shirt over her head. She slipped out of bed and walked downstairs to the kitchen.

“Morning Bella,” Sonny said when he saw Elizabeth walk into the kitchen.

“Hey Sonny,” Elizabeth said.

“How did you sleep?” Sonny asked.

“Do you really want to know or are you just searching for words because you’re trying to avert your attention from the fact that I came down in Jason’s tee shirt?” Elizabeth asked.

“Okay, you caught me,” Sonny said. “But do you have to make the fact that you’re sleeping with my best friend so obvious? I mean you’re my baby sister, Bella.”

“I’m not advertising it,” Elizabeth said. “I’m not doing anything out of the ordinary. You’re just uncomfortable with it and I understand that, but you’re the one who pulled me out of my life, so don’t tell me what I can and cannot do.”

“I’m sorry, Bella,” Sonny said. “I’m just scared for a lot of different reasons and I don’t know how to handle all these emotions. I hate being away from Carly and Michael, I can’t stand that you’re in danger, and I’m not used to you and Jason being together.”

“Was it really that hard to tell me all of that?” Elizabeth asked. “I know it’s hard for you. It’s hard for me too. I mean, I missed Jason, and everyone else, but I was perfectly content touring. I love it, Sonny, and having to put that on hold is like putting my life on hold. Please understand, I’m not with Jason to make you uncomfortable, I’m with Jason because I love him; he means the world to me.”

“I know,” Sonny said. “I can see it in your eyes as much I see it in his. I know you love each other, and I know you’ll be a part of each other’s lives, I just need some time to get used to it.”

“I don’t know what I can do, but I’ll try and remember how you feel,” Elizabeth said.

“Thank you,” Sonny said, hugging her. “So, how about some breakfast?”

“Sounds good,” Elizabeth said. “I’m gonna go get dressed before Johnny, Max, and Francis wake up.”

“Thank you,” Sonny said.

******

A few days later, Sonny, Jason, Elizabeth, Johnny, Francis, and Max were sitting in the living room watching a movie, The Bodyguard, Elizabeth’s choice. Towards the end of the movie, where Kevin Costner gets shot jumping in front a bullet meant for Whitney Houston. Elizabeth was crying and she swore that Sonny, Johnny, Francis, and Max were as well. By the end, as Whitney Houston ran off the plane and into Kevin Costner’s arms, Elizabeth looked up at Jason, as his eyes welled up.

“See, I told you,” Elizabeth said.

“No one at home hears about this,” Sonny said.

“Okay, okay,” Elizabeth said. “But I knew you would like it.”

“That was such a great movie,” Johnny said.

“It’s one of my favorites,” Elizabeth said.

“It wasn’t bad,” Jason said.

As Elizabeth stopped the tape to rewind it, the news was on the television.

“Good evening,” the news anchor said. “Before we go back to our regular evening news report, we have a new development in the escape of Lucas Lorenzo from a Los Angeles prison.”

“Oh God,” Elizabeth said.

“Sh, turn it up,” Sonny said.

Elizabeth moved closer to Jason and Jason moved his arm across her shoulder.

“Los Angeles officials have informed us that Lucas Lorenzo was returned to the Los Angeles prison that he escaped from several weeks ago,” the news anchor said. “Let’s go now to Lisa March, who is live in the New York area where Lucas Lorenzo was apprehended.”

“Thank you, James,” Lisa said. “Early this morning, Lucas Lorenzo was arrested at a hotel in New York where he checked in under the name Carl Lucas. Another hotel guest tipped authorities off to his whereabouts and he was taken into custody early this morning. He was flown in police custody to the prison in Los Angeles where he was put in solitary confinement. A further sentence for his escape is expected to be given sometime next week. That’s all I have now; back to you, James.”

“Thank you, Lisa,” James said. “We’ll return to our…”

“Thank God,” Elizabeth said. “So is it over now? Can I go back on tour?”

“I think we can arrange for the tour to resume at the beginning of next week,” Sonny said. “We’ll talk to Matt and see what we can do.”

“Thank you, Sonny,” Elizabeth said, throwing her arms around her brother. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

******

That evening, in a Los Angeles hotel…

“So the first stage of your plan has been successful,” Sorel said. “Now, if you can stay out of sight for a few weeks, we’ll move you to Port Charles and the final stage will unfold.”

“I am looking forward to being reunited with Elizabeth,” Lucky said.

“Just be patient, there is little room for error here,” Sorel said.

“I understand,” Lucky said.

******

“Matt,” Elizabeth said into the phone. “Matt, it’s Elizabeth.”

“It’s good to hear from you,” Matt replied. “I take it you heard the news.”

“Yes, and I’m ready to get back on the road,” Elizabeth said. “I talked to Ned and he thinks that we’d be best picking up where we left off and just tacking on the missed shows at the end, that way there’s less rescheduling conflicts.”

“Sounds good to me,” Matt said.

“And I talked to Brian, he and the boys are set to join me in Chicago for Thursday’s show,” Elizabeth said.

“Okay,” Matt said. “Well I’m sure you have to pack and everything so I’ll let you go.”

“Thanks, and I’ll see you on Thursday,” Elizabeth said.

“See you then,” Matt said.

******

“Hey Jase,” Sonny said. “I’ve been thinking.”

“I hate when you start conversations like that,” Jason said.

“No, no, just hear me out,” Sonny said. “Now I really want to go home to be with Carly and Michael, and even though Johnny, Francis, and Max are here, I’d be more comfortable if you stay with Elizabeth.”

“Sonny, it’s over,” Jason replied.

“I know, I know,” Sonny said. “But I’d like you to be here for her. Besides, you know that since she told you the tour was starting again, all you wanted was to beg her to let you come with her.”

“Okay, I’ll admit it, I miss her when she’s gone, but I dealt with it for a month,” Jason said. “I can do it for a little longer.”

“Even after spending time with her here?” Sonny asked.

“Alright, if that’s what you want,” Jason said. “I’ll do it.”

“Good,” Sonny said.

“And thank you,” Jason said.

Chapter 20

Time passed quickly and smoothly once Elizabeth’s tour picked up again. A few weeks later, Elizabeth, Jason, Johnny, Francis, and Max returned to Port Charles with Nikolas for the Nurses Ball.

The ride to the Port Charles Hotel for the Nurses Ball consisted mostly of Jason whining to Elizabeth about wearing a tuxedo. The atmosphere was light and joking as Elizabeth, Emily, Larissa, and Gia discussed their skit and Sonny actually spoke to his father by choice. Everyone was just glad to be home, together. No one thought about the possibility that something would go wrong that night, changing everyone’s lives.

******

“I still think it would have been so cute if you, Sonny, Johnny, Francis, and Max got up there and did The Boys Are Back In Town,” Elizabeth said with a laugh as Edward, Alan, Ned, and AJ exited the stage following their skit.

“Hilarious,” Jason said with not a hint of laughter.

“You’re no fun,” Elizabeth said, with a pout.

“That’s not what you said last night,” Jason said.

“Jason!” Elizabeth exclaimed, hitting his arm.

“What’d I say?” Jason asked, feigning innocence.

Catching Emily’s eye, Elizabeth knew she had to get ready for their skit.

“I’ll deal with you later,” Elizabeth said. “I have to go get dressed.”

“You are dressed, honey,” Jason said. “Although I have to say I liked you better last night.”

“Ugh!” Elizabeth exclaimed. “You are definitely sleeping on the couch Morgan.”

“Oo,” Johnny and Francis said. “Banishment from the bedroom.”

“See what you’re doing to me?” Jason said. “Baby, they’re making fun of me.”

“You brought it on yourself,” Elizabeth said.

She kissed him, only intending for it to be quick, but Jason’s arms encircled her waist and his tongue touched her lips. Losing herself in Jason’s kiss, Elizabeth fell into Jason’s lap and opened her mouth to him.
