Will You Be Mine?
Alexis is sitting on her sofa eating her usual bowl of popcorn. She sighed thinking, ‘What’s the big deal with Valentine’s Day anyway?’ Maybe it was because this year she had no Valentine and wasn’t on anyone's list of Valentine’s. Tonight she was all alone at home because as usual Kristina was out with Ned. Not that she would begrudge her sister of anything, but she too wanted some happiness in her life besides her work.
Meanwhile Sonny’s sitting in his penthouse thinking of all the Valentine’s Days he has had in the past. Starting with meeting Brenda in the car dealership in ‘94 to last year with Carly and every year in between. This year he was alone. He’s been telling himself for a long time now that he needed to leave the past behind him and move on and tonight was no better a time. Infact, he knew just what he needed to do.
He walks across the hall and knocks on Alexis’ door. She gets up off the couch and slowly pulls the door open. She opens her eyes never expecting him to be standing there, but then she realized that he was alone this year too. “C’mon in Sonny.” He walks in past her with deep dimples showing. Sonny turns around to face her and claps his hands together. “You and I are going to dinner, so hurry up and get ready. I’ll have Johnny bring the car around.” Alexis’ eyes widen. “Excuse me, but you don’t tell me what to do, Now if you were to ask me nicely I just might agree to go. So what’s it going to be?” Sonny laughs. “Okay Alexis, would you like to go out with me for dinner?”
Alexis puts her hand on her chin and thinks for a moment. Then her gaze returns to his. “Well I guess it’s better than sitting here, alone, eating popcorn. Just give me a minute to change.” Sonny sits down on the couch still looking at her. “That’s the first time my company has been compared to that of popcorn. Should I take that as a complement?” Alexis shrugs. “Take it any way you want”, before walking up stairs to her room.
She begins searching through her closet for something suitable for Valentine’s Day dinner with a “friend”. She’d never been a big fan of the color red but she decided that burgundy was close enough. She slipped on a long-sleeved burgundy shirt with a knee-length black skirt. She didn’t want to look too much like a lawyer, but not too much like a prom queen either. She looked herself over in the mirror and realized that this was as good as it was gonna get and sat down to begins fixing her makeup and her hair.
Sonny, meanwhile, was becoming impatient. He stood up to walk over and pour himself a drink, which would hopefully calm his nerves. He wondered what was taking her so long. Didn’t she know that she didn’t have to go out of her way to make herself look good for him because she could never look bad in his eyes? He shook his head not remembering the day when his feelings for Alexis had become more than just friendship. It was more like he woke up one day and realized that they could make each other happy. That’s all he really wanted, someone who understood him, someone who he could trust and who trusted him back and someone who could make him happy. To him that was Alexis and he intended to prove that to her tonight.
He turned around when he heard her coming down the stairs. He took one look at her and his breath caught in his throat. She was beautiful. He shook himself out of his trance and reached out a hand to her. He took it, brought it to his lips and kissed it gently. Alexis was surprised by this but wasn’t about to object. “You look.. wonderful.“ She smiled and went to grab her coat, but Sonny took it from her hands and began helping her put it on. “Thank you Sonny.” “It’s my pleasure.” He then opened the door for her and shut it on their way out.
About ten minutes later they arrived at the No Name. He decided to play this one his way and take her to a place where they wouldn’t have to worry about anyone seeing them or outwardly judging them. Once they walked in Sonny helped Alexis off with her coat and handed it along with his to the waiter who greeted them.
The waiter gladly took their coats and walked them to Sonny’s usual table. “Mr. Corinthos, are you ready to order now or would you and the lady like more time?” Sonny looked over at Alexis and nodded his head. “We’ll take two of the specials. Thank you.” Alexis glared over at Sonny. “Excuse me? I don’t remember asking you to order for me.” Sonny just smiled at her. “Alexis, for once, would you just go with me on this?”
Seeing his smile made Alexis smile too. She just couldn’t help it when she was around him. “Just this once, so don’t get used to it.” Sonny chuckled slightly. “I wouldn’t dream of it.”
They continued quiet conversation throughout dinner. They discussed everything from his sister to her sister, to the weather, even some business details, everything except themselves and their growing feelings towards each other.
Sonny put his napkin over his plate before standing up and reaching his hand out to her. “Would you give me the honor of this dance?” Alexis smiled and stood up giving him her hand. They hadn’t had the opportunity to dance since Puerto Rico and she wasn’t about to pass up the chance to be close to him again. “Sure, I’d love to.”
There's not a star in the sky
That could equal to the sparkle in your eyes
This card is only one way
To let you know just how I feel
Chorus
Will you be my valentine girl
And I'll give you my heart
Forever
Be my valentine girl
And I won't let you go
No never
Once their hands touched that familiar feeling came over the both of them as he lead her to the dance floor. Instantly a slow song came on, almost as if it were fate. Sonny couldn’t stop the smile on his face as he pulled Alexis into his arms. He wrapped one arm around her waist as his other hand intertwined with hers and he brought it up to his chest placing it just over his heart. Alexis inhaled sharply as the heat radiated from their bodies.
All of the flowers I've sent
Could never take the place
Of being there
Although we only just met
You're everything to me
Chorus
Be my, my valentine girl
I need you
I want you
I want you in my world
Valentine girl
Sonny closed his eyes. It was the first time, in a long time, that he could remember feeling so at ease, so at peace, so contented. Alexis leaned her head against his shoulder relishing in the feeling of having him so near to her. Realizing that she’s never wanted this moment to end and wishing that it wouldn’t have to. Then Sonny pulled back, as the song winded down, and looked into her eyes.
I'll be there for you
Will you be there for me too
Valentine girl
He put his hands on her slightly flushed cheeks and looked deep into her eyes. His lips slowly moved closer and closer to hers until they were almost touching. Then he whispered, “Will you be mine?” Alexis smiled but before she could respond his lips came crashing down upon hers. They kissed hungrily craving the contact. Sonny’s tongue came out to tease her lips as they opened up for him. They dueled with each other for many moments before they both pulled back breathlessly.
They stood there smiling at each other, just taking in everything that was happening. They both knew that they could never go back from this moment, but everything was going to be okay from now on because neither of them wanted to.
