Run To You (1/1)

Emily Bowen-Quartermaine had just come pulled a
t-shirt on when she heard the knocking on her bedroom
window. She tensed for a moment, wondering if it was
her ex-boyfriend, Juan, or her best friend, Lucky.
Both young men had used the window to see Emily, so
she had no way of knowing until she opened the curtain
and looked. Thankfully, when she did, it was Lucky.
But something was wrong. "Lucky?" Emily asked as she
opened the window and let him in. "What's wrong?"

"She's gone. She packed up all her stuff, and all Lu's
stuff and left. She didn't even leave a note, Em,"
Lucky replied, obviously trying not to cry. "She just
left."

"Who? Laura?"

"Yeah. How could she do that to me? How could she not
even say goodbye? She didn't even ask me to go with
her! I mean, I wouldn't have gone, but she could've
asked me!"

"Oh, Lucky," Emily said, putting her arms around him.
"She should have. She should have asked you."

"I hate her."

"No you don't. You're just mad at her."

"No, I hate her. Em, she knew I'd find out when I
was alone! She knew Dad was out of town again! She
knew! And she acted normal this morning before I left
for school! but I went home after my shift at Kelly's
and everything was gone. She'd just left. I hate her,"
Lucky said before finally breakign down into tears. "I
hate her."

Emily didn't say anything this time. She just guided
him over to her bed and made him sit down. She sat
down
next to him and wrapped her arms aroudn him again.
"It'll be okay, Lucky, it'll be okay. Luke'll be back
soon. It'll be okay."

Lucky's tears turned to sobs as he buried his face in
her shoulder. The two friends stayed like that for
several minutes before Lucky spoke. "Promise you'll
never leave me, Emmy. I couldn't take it."

"Never," Emily replied. "Never."

"Thank you."
