Chapter 1

This story starts off after Carly told the FBI about Sonny. He did not marry Carly for love but for the fact that if she was his wife she couldn’t testify against him. He doesn’t love her and he has never pretended to. After Carly’s betrayal he has gone through with divorce proceedings and he has cut her completely out of his life. He has not met Angel and she’s not in this story. Sonny has moved out of the Penthouse and lives in the apartment above Luke’s, in which he is still a partner. Jason is still in town.

Jax has just return from his year long search for Brenda. After getting settled he goes to Luke’s to see Sonny. Jax walks in and sees Luke at the bar.

Lk- What can I do for you Jax?

Jax- I came here to see Sonny. Is he here?

Lk- Yeah, he’s in the back. I’ll get him.

Sonny comes out with an annoyed look upon his face.

S- What do you want Jax?

Jax- Well, I’d like to talk to privately to you, if possible.

S- Anything you have to say to me, you can say infront of Luke.

Jax- Well, it’s about Brenda.

S- What about her?

Jax- I don’t know, if you know, but over a year ago I went looking for her.

S- Oh, that’s where you disappeared to. I kinda hope it was permanent.

Jax- Would you just let me finish? I found Brenda.

Sonny looks confused. He tries to process the information he has just been told. He gets a shocked look on his face.

Jax- Now I know that you aren’t going to believe me. So here (Jax hands Sonny an envelope) Brenda asked me to give this to you personally.

Sonny looks at the envelope. He can tell that it’s Brenda’s handwriting on the outside. He takes it and walks slowly to his office. He sits down at the desk. A few tears come to his eyes as he starts to open it. He pulls out a letter and begins to read it.

Sonny,

I know that this is a shock to you. I was just as shocked when Jax found me. Well, I am alive. There’s so much I want to tell you and now that I have the chance I don’t know where to start.

I know that you must have a lot of question and I want to try and answer them. Let me start off by telling you that my mom didn’t drive our car over the cliff. What I didn’t know that she made some powerful enemies and they were after her. We’ve spent the last four years traveling from place to place. i couldn’t contact anyone I know because I would be putting them in danger. I’m sorry but I couldn’t do that to any of you.

Now I’m about to tell you something that I know you will have a hard time forgiving me for. Enclosed you will find pictures of Michael Stone. He’s your son. Yours and mine. He was conceived with the love that we shared in the caves. I didn’t know I was pregnant until this mess started and by then it was too late. I truly hope you don’t hate me for keeping this from you. He has your curly brown hair and, as you can see, your dimples. He also has your kind, caring, gentle ways. We talk about you a lot. I show him pictures of us together and I tell him stories about us before he falls asleep.

My mother died three months ago. That’s when Jax found me. I’m hoping my situation is safe now that my mom is dead but I’m still not completely sure. Just in case we move around a lot I’m still afraid to stay in one place for too long. I want you to know that I will be keeping in touch with Jax. If you need to reach me for any reason you can reach me through him. I would love for you to meet Stone. As soon as I’m sure it’s safe I was hoping we could arrange something.

Jax told me that you and Carly married. I can only hope that she’ll make you happy. Let yourself be happy Sonny. You deserve it and it’s all that I’ve ever wanted for you and Jax. Now you have Carly, Jax has Chloe and I have Stone. Stone colored you a picture and I had to promise him that I would send it to you. Always remember that you have two people who love you very much and wish you nothing but the best. Please be careful and stay safe.

Sonny puts the letter down and takes out the pictures of his son. His son. Tears run down his face as he sees his son’s smiling face for the first time. His eyes catch a picture of Brenda and Stone on a swing set. He notices that she looks as beautiful as ever. He always knew that motherhood would agree with her. They looked so happy. He only wished he was there to share it with them.

Chapter 2

Sonny walks out of his office and goes over to the bar where Luke and Jax are.

S- I want to talk to her. I want her address, phone number, something.

Jax- I’m sorry Sonny I don’t have her phone number.

S- Well what about her address?

Jax- She was leaving as I was. She had another place to live and she wouldn’t tell me where.

S- Well, how is she getting in touch with you?

Jax- She is going to be calling me at my penthouse once a week. I will tell her that you want to speak with her next time she calls.

S- Good you tell her I want to see her and Michael. I don’t care how or when but I want to see them.

Jax- I will. I have to go now because I’m supposed to meet Chloe. I’ll be in touch.

Jax leaves and Luke stares at Sonny.

Lk- Is Brenda really alive?

S- Yeah.

Lk- Well, how?

S- It’s complicated.

Lk- Why do you have to see her? And who’s Michael?

Sonny motions for Luke to follow him back into the office. Sonny picks up the photos and hands them to Luke.

S- Luke, that’s Michael Stone, he’s my son.

Lk- Wow. He looks just like you. Why didn’t she tell you about everything before now?

S- Here read this. (Sonny hands Luke the letter)

Lk- (finishes reading) Wow, so do you still love her?

S- Luke, I will always love Brenda.

Lk- Well, where does that leave Carly?

S- I don’t know. Where does that leave Carly? Carly is dead to me. She sold me out to the Feds. I don’t want anything more to do with her.

Lk- What are you gonna do about Brenda?

S- (shrugs) Nothing. She’s moved on. She thinks I’m happy with Carly. I just want to see my son.

Lk- Good luck, man.

S- Thanks. Don’t mention this to anyone. I’ll only probably tell Jason.

Lk- Sure thing.

Days passed and Sonny hasn’t seen or heard from Jax. He can’t sleep at night and when he does sleep he has nightmares and wakes up in a cold sweat.

Sonny is staring out the window thinking of Brenda and their time in Puerto Rico. His thoughts are interrupted by a persistent banging on his door. he opens it to see Carly standing there.

S- I thought I told you not to near me?

C- Sonny you don’t mean that you love me.

S- I did love you but now you’re nothing to me.

C- Sonny, don’t say that, I can see your love.

S- You might see my love but it’s not for you. You’ll never change Carly. I watched you betray Jason over and over again. I don’t know why I thought you’d be different now.

It was a temporary lapse in judgment. Trust me, it won’t happen again.

He shuts the door in her face and pours himself and drink. He goes downstairs to the club. He needed to get out of that apartment. There were too many memories of him and Brenda there.

S- Hey man, how’s going?

Lk- I should ask you the same question. You look like hell.

S- Thanks. I came down here to work on the books.

Lk- You needed to get out of the old place, huh?

S- Yeah. I’ll be in the back.

Lk- Wait man. Look who just walked in.

Chapter 3

Sonny turns around to see Jax come in. Jax is carrying a large envelope. Jax puts the envelope on the bar in front of Sonny.

Jax- I told Brenda you wanted to see Stone. She sent this for you.

S- What is it?

Jax- It’s the address to her house in Miami. She said to tell you you’re welcome to come down whenever you want.

S- Thanks. Is she okay?

Jax- She’s great, Sonny. Brenda’s really changed. She’s happy. She loves being a mother and talking care of the baby. He looks just like you, by the way.

S- You meet him?

Jax- Yeah. I stayed with her for a while. Stone talks about you a lot. The first thing he asked me was if I knew you. He’s a special kid.

S- I always knew Brenda would be a fantastic mother.

Jax- That she is.

S- Well I better go. I have plans to make.

Sonny goes to his apartment and packs things

that he’ll need for a week. He calls Benny and tells him of his plans. He calls the airport and gets a ticket on first flight to Miami. He then arranges for a rented car to be there waiting for him at the airport. He picks up his suitcases and walks out the door.

A little after dinner time, Brenda is cleaning up in the kitchen and Stone is in the living room watching television. There is a knock at the door.

MS- The door, mommy.

B- Okay, I’ll get it. Coming.

She opens the door and is not too surprised to see Sonny standing on the other side.

B- Hi Sonny. I didn’t expect to see you so soon. Come on in. Stone looks who’s here.

MS - Daddy. (Stone rushes to Sonny and motions for Sonny to pick him up)

Tears come to Sonny’s eyes as he holds his son for the first time.

S- Hi Stone. Gosh you’re a big boy, aren’t you?

Hi Brenda.

B- I have some things to do, so I’ll give you two some time alone. Stone why don’t you show daddy your room.

MS- Okay mommy. (Stone takes Sonny’s hand) Come on daddy.

Sonny turns around to smile at Brenda as Stone leads him upstairs to his room. Brenda smiles warmly back at him. She’s happy to see how easily Stone took to Sonny.

MS- Daddy here’s my room.

Chapter 4

Sonny looks at Stone’s room in awe. It’s the kind of room he had always dreamed of as a kid. Stuffed animals were everywhere. His room was baseball themed with Yankee posters on the walls.

MS- Daddy, look I have baseball pictures.

S- I see, maybe we can play some baseball tomorrow.

MS- You’ll be here tomorrow?

S- I sure will.

MS- Cool. Look daddy I have hotwheels cars. I like the trucks. Do you wanna play cars?

S- Yeah, let’s play.

About an hour later Brenda comes up to check on Stone. She peaks in and sees Sonny and Stone laying on the floor playing cars. She smiles to see how happy Stone was.

B- Excuse me guys. (Sonny gets up off the floor) It’s eight o’clock. What time is that?

MS- Bath time.

B- Yup. Come on I got the tub all ready for you.

MS- Okay mommy.

B- Good boy. Get your clothes off and we’ll go into the bathroom.

Brenda takes a pair of Spiderman pajamas and then helps Stone with his clothes.

B- We shouldn’t be long, Sonny. I put your suitcases in the guestroom next door. Feel free to help yourself to anything in the kitchen, too.

S- Okay. Thanks Brenda.

While Brenda gives Stone a bath Sonny uses this time to look around the house. He goes to the guestroom. Then the kitchen. He’s thirsty so he goes in the fridge. He’s surprised to see a stocked fridge and healthy food. He wonders who cooks for her. He smiles, grabs his drink and goes to sit in the living room. There are pictures of himself and Brenda and Stone. And others of Lois, Robin, and Jason all on the mantel of the fireplace. He doesn’t see any pictures of other men. He wonders if she’s seeing anyone.

Brenda comes downstairs and finds Sonny on the couch.

B- Sonny, Stone’s done his bath and he’s getting ready for bed. He wanted to know if you could read him a story.

S- I would love to. (he stands up)

B- Thanks. Tell him I’ll be up in a few minutes to tuck him in. Oh and don’t let him talk you into more than one story. He’s good at that. Must be the dimples.

S- Ha ha. (chuckles) Okay.

Sonny sits on the bed with Stone. He hasn’t even gotten halfway through the story when he looks down at Stone and realizes that he’s fallen asleep. A minute later Brenda walks in.

S- (looks at her) He fell asleep on me.

B- Wow. You must have the magic touch. It usually takes me longer.

Brenda leans over and kisses Stone’s forehead, then pulls the blankets up to his chin. She then walks quietly out of the room.

B- I know you must be tired, too. There are extra blankets in the closet if you need them. I’m just going to finish folding this laundry and I’m going to go to bed myself.

S- Okay. Thanks Brenda. He’s really a special boy. Thanks for letting me stay here.

B- It’s no problem. Stone deserves a chance to know his father. Goodnight Sonny.

S- Goodnight Bren.

Chapter 5

Brenda goes in her room and Sonny looks at Stone once more before going to his room. He gets changed, turns off the light and gets into bed. He tries to fall asleep but can’t. All he can think of is Brenda. He can’t believe how much she’s changed.

He’s amazed to see how wonderful a mother she is.

When he first met her he wouldn’t have pictured her as the laundry type but now she’s doing and folding laundry, doing dishes and cleaning the house. It saddens him to realize that he hasn’t known this about her before. He thinks of Stone and how much energy he had.

He was surprised to see how happy Stone was to see him and quickly he had taken to him.

The only thing he could hope for now would be that someday he would be able to share this life with Stone and with Brenda.

Brenda awakens in the middle of the night by someone yelling. At first she thinks that it’s Stone but Stone is still sleeping soundly. She still hears the noise and goes to check on Sonny. She walks in to his room and he’s tossing and turning.

She realizes that he must be having one of his nightmares.

Brenda sits down, on the bed, next to him and gently shakes him.

B- Sonny. Come on, Sonny, wake up.

Sonny jumps up and then he remembers where he is, and is surprised to see Brenda in his room.

B- It’s okay. You’re okay now. Sonny, it’s just a dream.

S- Hi Bren.

B- Do you wanna talk about it?

S- Nah, it was nothing. (he pauses) I know I don’t have the right to ask...could you just hold me until I fall back to sleep.

B- (smiles) Sure. Move over.

Sonny moves over and Brenda lays next to him. Sonny closes his eyes and tries to relax. Brenda gently runs her fingers through his curls. Soon Brenda notices Sonny’s steady breathing. She kisses his cheek and quietly leaves the room.

Brenda climbs back into her bed. As she lays there, trying to get to sleep, her thoughts drift back to Sonny, something that has been happening a lot lately. She thinks to herself how good it felt to be in his arms again.

She keeps trying to remind herself that he’s married, but it doesn’t stop the way she’s feeling.

It’s like she’s having a battle between her head and her heart.

Her heart said that she loves Sonny and always would but her head said that he was married and that she couldn’t put herself in that position again. Now all she wanted to know was
