Chapter 16
Next morning
Brenda is dressed in sweatpants and a t-shirt, she comes down the stairs carrying Nate. Nate lays on the floor playing trucks while Brenda looks through his photo albums. She begins to cry and Nate comes over and wraps his arms around her.
Nate- No, cry momma. (he kisses her cheek) All better?
B- (smiles) All better. Thanks baby.
She puts a movie on and they lay together and watch it. Brenda falls asleep while Nate sits there and finishes watching the movie.
Sonny walks up the walkway and knocks on the door. Nate walks over to the window and looks out. He smiles when he sees Sonny there. Nate walks over to the door, turns the knob and pulls the door open. Nate reaches his arms out to Sonny and Sonny picks him up.
S- How’s my big boy?
Nate- Shush, daddy. Mommy’s seepin’. I good daddy, wanna play?
S- Okay, how about we surprise mommy with a nice dinner?
Nate- Okay daddy.
They go into the kitchen and Sonny starts cooking while Nate watches.
Awhile later Brenda quickly sits up realizing that she had fallen asleep.
B- Nate? Nate! c’mere.
Nate- (walks out of the kitchen) Comin’ momma.
B- (hugs him) What are you doing in the kitchen?
Nate- Come see momma. (he pulls on her hand)
Brenda walks with Nate to the kitchen and is surprised to see Sonny cooking. Sonny turns around and smiles brightly at her.
B- (smiles) Sonny. (she walks over to him and buries her head in his chest, wrapping her arms tightly around him, taking in the safeness of his arms)
S- What’s a matter baby?
B- Can we talk about it later when Nate goes to bed?
S- (he realizes that she doesn’t want to talk about it in front of Nate so he agrees) Okay. We were just making you up some dinner.
B- (picks up Nate) Mmmm. Smells delicious. What’s daddy making us Nate?
Nate- spisgetties mommy.
B- Mmmm. Did you tell daddy how much you love spaghetti?
Nate- Nope. Daddy just knows.
B- Wow, daddy must have special powers.
Nate- (eyes wide open) Daddy do you have special powers?
S- (smiles) Maybe.
B- (laughs) Come on Nate, let’s get you cleaned up before dinner.
They all enjoyed a nice meal like a regular family. Nate was tired so Brenda was going to give him a bath. Sonny came up to help with bath-time but he wound up getting soaked. They put Nate to bed and Sonny was still toweling himself off.
B- I hope you don’t get the wrong impression but I have a shirt you can change into.
S- Why would I get the wrong impression?
B- (smiles) Because it’s your shirt.
S- (confused) What?
B- I have one of your shirts. (shyly) Remember in Rio I couldn’t find my shirt so you gave me yours, well I’ve had it ever since. I’ll go get it for you.
Brenda goes into her room and pulls out the shirt. Sonny meanwhile can’t get over the fact that she has kept it for so long. He smiles brightly realizing that they both are crazy. She comes back into the room holding his shirt.
S- Just so you know I don’t have the wrong impression of you. I must admit that I found your shirt and I have it at home.
Brenda laughs and throws the shirt at him. Sonny changes shirts and Brenda can’t help but get turned on at the sight of his well sculptured chest. She blushes and looks away, Sonny notices this and smiles to himself. He pours each of them a drink and they sit together on the couch.
B- Sonny, I have something, very important to tell you, that could jeopardize our future.
S- What Bren? What’s wrong? Is it me, did I do something wrong?
B- No Sonny, it’s not you, it’s me. I’m scared Sonny. (tears come to her eyes) When I was getting a shower the other night, I... I noticed a lump, I have a small lump on my breast.
S- (shocked) What does that mean?
Chapter 17??
B- I’m scared Sonny. (tears come to her eyes) When I was getting a shower the other night, I... I noticed a lump, I have a small lump on my breast.
S- (shocked) What does that mean?
B- I went to the doctor yesterday and she said that I’ll have to go in and have it removed and then they’ll test it to see if it’s cancerous. (crying) I could have cancer Sonny.
S- (tears can be seen in his eyes) C’mere baby. You don’t have cancer, not yet. We are going to make it through this together. You’ll go in and have it removed and I’ll be with you all the way.
B- Well, what if it turns out to be cancerous? Then what am I going to do?
S- We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. Right now, I want you to know that I’m going to be here for you.
Sonny pulls Brenda into his arms and he holds her until he feels her relax. He runs his fingers in her hair as he prepares himself for the news he has to tell her.
S- Sweetheart, I have something that I have to tell you too. It might make you feel a little better about things, I hope.
B- (she moves in his arms so that she is looking into his eyes) What is it, Sonny?
S- Well Lily and I have agreed on a mutual divorce. We both realized that we haven’t been happy for a long time. Come to find out that we are both in love with other people.
B- Sonny... I can’t believe it. You mean you and Lily are really separated?
S- Yeah baby, I’m all yours.
Brenda squeals with excitement and pulls Sonny toward her. She runs her hand down his face until her mouth meets his in a passionate kiss. They continue to kiss until they breathlessly pull away.
B- Sonny, can you stay here tonight and just hold me?
S- Baby, there’s no other place I’d rather be.
Sonny stands up and takes Brenda’s hand and they head to her bedroom. He holds her until he feels she’s fallen asleep. As he watches her sleep he realizes how blessed he is to have this wonderful, caring person in his life to love him and be the only mother to his children. He prays that she’ll be okay, because he doesn’t know if he can handle losing another person in his life that he cares about.
Next Day
Sonny’s Penthouse
Sonny walks in and sees Lily sitting in the dining room grading papers. Lily looks up when he walks in.
S- Lily, I’m just gonna come straight out and ask you. Have you come to a decision about filing for divorce or do I have to do it?
Li- Sonny, why is it so important right at this time whether we’re getting divorced or not.
S- It’s a family matter. You know Brenda, the woman from the park that day?
Li- Yes, I remember her.
S- Well, I met her about three years ago back when I was living in Rio, and now I’ve found out that we share a child together. I have a son with Brenda. That is where my heart is right now and I need to be with them.
Li- (shocked but understanding) I um.. well I understand now Sonny. I’ll go and file for the divorce in the morning. I’m sure the lawyer will give you a call when the papers are ready for you to sign.
S- Thank you Lily.
Sonny goes upstairs and packs some of his things to bring back to Brenda’s.
A week has passed and Sonny has been there for her every day and every night. He’s been staying at her house helping her with Nate and comforting her when she’s feeling down. But today was the day. The day where her life would change forever, the real question would be in a positive way or a negative way.
Sonny and Brenda had dropped Nate off at the gatehouse and he’s taking her to the hospital to have the biopsy done.
Brenda is nervous but is trying not to show it, but as usual Sonny can see right through her.
S- Sweetheart, everything is going to be fine. I promise I’ll be there when you wake up.
B- Thank you baby. You’ve been so great, I don’t know how I can ever thank you for that.
Brenda tightly hugs Sonny and he can feel her tears soaking through his sweater. Sonny takes uses his thumbs to gently wipe away her tears.
S- You’re going to be fine. You are so strong, this is nothing you can’t handle. Just remember how much Nate and I love you.
B- I love you too Sonny, more than you could ever know.
Dr.- Hi Brenda are you ready to get this over with?
B- I’m about as ready as I’ll ever be.
Dr.- Okay, let’s do it.
Brenda walks away with the doctor as Sonny looks after her. Sonny waits there for what seems like an eternity but in reality wasn’t very long. Sonny stands up when he see the doctor coming towards him.
S- How is she?
Dr.- Mr. Barrett, your wife is doing fine. She was given a mild anesthesia and is still asleep. She should be waking up shortly so if you like you can go and sit with her until then.
S- Thank you doctor.
Dr.- I’ll be in shortly to see you both.
Sonny walks in and sees Brenda lying there. He thinks back to what the doctor said to him and realizes that she called Brenda his wife. It hasn’t hit him until then how much he’d love to have her become his wife. He holds her hand and she starts to open her eyes.
B- (groggily) Sonny?
S- (smiles and runs his fingers in her hair) Hi baby, how’s my girl feeling?
B- Tired. How did everything go?
S- Well the doctor said that everything went fine. She said she would be in shortly to talk to us and then you can go home.
B- Okay.
S- (holds her hand) Rest baby, I’ll wake you when the doctor is coming. Rest sweetheart.
Brenda closes her eyes and quickly falls asleep. She can see her, Sonny, Nate and a whole group of people. They seem to all be family. She now can see clearly where they are. They are at park at what seems to be a picnic. Sonny is running around with Nate, and there’s Lois, Ned, Robin, Jason, AJ, Carly and about a million little kids running around. She looked over and seen a little child smiling at her, but Brenda was unable to make out whether it was a boy or a girl. She hears Sonny tell her to get the baby, but she can’t seem to get over there. Suddenly her dream ends and wakes with a start to Sonny telling her the doctor is coming.
S- Hi, sweetheart, the doctor is coming now.
Brenda sits up as the doctor approaches them.
Chapter 18??
The doctor approaches them..
Dr.- Hello Brenda. You’re looking well. Well everything was successful. We’ve completely removed the cyst and we will put it through biopsy right way. I must tell you that you will be sore for a while and you shouldn’t be lifting anything heavy for three weeks.
S- Okay, I’ll make sure she doesn’t.
Dr.- Now, I’m going to allow you to go home now, but I expect you will take it easy and have a few days of bed-rest.
B- I will. Dr. Johnson, when will they be calling me with the results?
Dr.-You will be notified with in 24-48 hrs. Then we will take things from there.
B- Thank you doctor.
Dr.- It was my pleasure. I’ll be talking to you soon.
The doctor leaves and Brenda struggles to get out of the bed. Sonny helps her and she goes into the bathroom to change. Once she has changed and signed her release papers, the nurse comes with a wheelchair to take her downstairs.
Once in the car Brenda leans her head on Sonny’s shoulder and falls asleep. Sonny smiles while watching Brenda sleep. He goes over to the gatehouse and picks Nate up. Then he drives home.
Brenda’s house-
Sonny helps Brenda up to bed and then goes downstairs with Nate.
S- Nate, mommy’s tired now so you and I are gonna make some dinner. What should we have?
Nate- How bout spisgetties daddy?
S- Spisgetties again? Okay, I’ll make you spisgetties Nate and I’ll make mommy some soup. How’s that sound?
Nate- Absootly gate.
S- Okay, let’s do it.
A little while later, Sonny has fed Nate, gave him his bath and tucked him into bed. He goes up to their bedroom and sees that Brenda is still asleep and hasn’t touched her soup. He gets changed and moves into the bed next to her. He wraps his arms around her and hopes that when they receive the news it will be in their favor.
The next morning
Brenda was the first one to wake up. She immediately remembers what’s she waiting for. She quietly gets out of bed and slips her robe on. She walks down the hall to Nate’s room. She sees that he’s still asleep. She kneels next to his bed and runs her fingers through his tiny curls.
She walked quietly out of his room and down into the kitchen. She poured herself a cup of coffee. She was staring out the back window when she felt to strong arms wrap around her. She immediately settled back into his warm embrace. He smiled and started to kiss her neck playfully.
S- I missed you in my arms this morning.
B- I’m sorry honey, I couldn’t sleep.
S- I know baby. Everything is gonna be perfect, just you wait and see.
B- Yeah, but Sonny...
He interrupted her but pulling her lips to his. He pulled away slowly, kissing her again and again quickly. Then he ran his hand softly down her cheek.
S- Nothing’s gonna happen to you baby because I won’t let it. Even if it means calling in every favor I’ve got with the big guy.
Brenda wrapped her arms around him soaking up the safety of his arms.
B- You’re too much, you know that?
S- Who me? (he dimpled) So what are we gonna do today?
B- I don’t know. I don’t really feel up to doing much.
S- Well, I refuse to let you sit around all day waiting for the phone to ring. Now, get your beautiful self upstairs to our little boy while I start breakfast.
She smiled and kisses him quickly.
B- (salutes him) Yes sir. (she kisses him again and runs up the stairs)
A few minutes later Brenda comes down the stairs with Nate. She can smell Sonny’s cooking so they go into the kitchen. Brenda opens the door and Nate runs over to Sonny.
Nate- Daddy, Daddy.
Nate reaches his arms up to Sonny. Sonny scoops him up and flies him around in the air and then into his highchair. Brenda smiles at the scene before her, knowing that if anything were to happen to her Sonny would always be there for Nate.
Sonny glances over at Brenda and notices that she seemed a million miles away. He’d have to cure her of that. He smiles and finishes dishing out breakfast.
They had all finished breakfast and Sonny got Nate all cleaned up and dressed. He constantly gave reassuring words to Brenda, which only proved to Brenda how much she loved him. Now he told her to just relax and he would take them all out to dinner later.
A few hours have passed and Brenda was sitting quietly in the kitchen while Sonny chased Nate around in the backyard. She begins to daydream when the phone rings. She immediately runs to the phone and picks it up.
B- Hello?
L- Hiya Bren.
B- (disappointed) Oh, it’s just you..
L- Well, hey.
B- Sorry Lo, I was waiting for the doctor to call with the test results.
L- Oh, sorry Bren. I’m sure they’ll call you soon.
B- Yeah, I sure hope so. The waiting is killing me.
L- Well, I just called to see how you were feeling. I guess I’ll let ya go incase the doctor is trying to get through.
B- Okay Lo, I’ll call you tomorrow.
Brenda hangs up the phone and starts back for the kitchen. Suddenly the phone starts ringing so Brenda turns around and answers it again.
B- What did ya forget Lo?
N- Miss Barrett?
B- Yes, this is she.
N- Oh, good. I’m a nurse from Dr. Johnson’s office. I calling because I have your test results.
B- (nervous) Oh okay.
N- Okay, let me see.. ah, your test result came back........
Chapter 19
Previous chapter -
Brenda hangs up the phone and starts back for the kitchen. Suddenly the phone starts ringing so Brenda turns around and answers it again.
B- What did ya forget Lo?
N- Miss Barrett?
B- Yes, this is she.
N- Oh, good. I’m a nurse from Dr. Johnson’s office. I calling because I have your test results.
B- (nervous) Oh okay.
Chapter 19
N- Okay, let me see.. ah, your test result came back negative. Congratulations.
B- (smiles) Thank you.
N- You need to comeback in for a follow up appointment in a few weeks.
B- Okay, I will.
Brenda hangs up the phone and immediately sinks to the floor. Tear are freely flowing from her eyes. Sonny comes in with Nate and this is how he finds her. He puts Nate down and quickly goes to her. He kneels down in front of her, putting his hand on her face to get her to look at him.
S- What’s the matter baby?
Brenda looked up at him tears still in her eyes. She put her arms around his neck bringing him closer. They hug for awhile when Sonny started to stand up and he brings her with him.
S- (his eyes pleading with her) Sweetheart, please tell me what going on?
B- (very calmly) I’m gonna be okay.
S- (confused) What? Of course, you’re gonna be okay baby.
B- (tears coming back to her eyes) Sonny, you don’t understand. The test.. it came back negative.
Sonny stood there shocked from a minute then he broke out into the most brilliant smile, dimples shining. He picked Brenda up and spun her around. Nate looked at his parents and wanted to join in the fun. He walked over to them.
Nate- Me play too?
B- Aww, c’mere baby.
Brenda bent down and hugged him tightly, thanking G*d for this blessing. Sonny came over and put his arms around them too.
That night they had tucked Nate into bed they were sitting together on the couch. Brenda moved into Sonny’s arms and he held her close, taking in her scent.
S- I love you Brenda. I knew you were gonna be alright. Now we can have the family we’ve both always dreamed of. You, me and Nate. We’re gonna be happy baby, always.
B- (tears in her eyes) I love you Sonny, more than I could ever say. You’ve been here for me during the hardest time in my life. I don’t know if I would have made it without you.
S- There was no where else that I would have rather been. I’ll always be here for you from now until the end of time. That I promise to you.
B- (smiles) I just can’t believe that I’m actually going to be okay. I mean... I mean I’m okay and you’re here and we have Nate. Things couldn’t be more perfect. Promise me we’ll always be like this.
S- I promise sweetheart. Things are only gonna get better from now on. (he smiles at her)
Brenda looks up into his chocolate brown eyes. She can see the built up desire that’s apparent there. She runs the back of her hand down his cheek and along his jawline. He closes eyes at the feel of her soft touch. She moves her hands to his neck at she brings her lips upon his. Their mouths meet in an explosion of passion.
Sonny puts his hands on her cheeks and gently slides her back so that she is laying down and he is on top of her. She moves her hands to his waist and starts to untuck his shirt, she bunches it up and lifts it over his head. His mouth moves down to her neck where he begins suckling gently. Brenda moans in pleasure as his hands move to her breasts. As he unbuttons her shirt his mouth follows with feather kisses.
Brenda pulls Sonny’s mouth back up to hers. Sonny can’t wait any long and he wraps his arms around her and lifts her up. He picks her up in his arms and carries her upstairs. Their kisses getting hotter with each step he takes. Once they reach the bedroom he sets her gently down on the bed. He looks deeply into her eyes.
S- Are you sure? I don’t want to rush you.
B- (kissing him passionately) I want you Sonny. Make love to me.
That’s all Sonny needed to hear. His lips crash upon hers and they lay back onto the bed together. Brenda ran her hands down his back and then brought them to the buckle on his pants. She unzips them and pushes them along with his boxers the rest of the way off. Sonny’s mouth moves down to her chest again making Brenda moan out in pleasure. She gently squeezes his manhood feeling him grow even harder against her touch.
Sonny can no longer take the torture, pleasure, she is giving him and his hands quickly begin to remove her jeans and her panties from her body. Once they are all the way off, Brenda straddles Sonny and gently slides him into her. They both moan when she does this. Chapter 20
The next morning Sonny is woken up by Nate jumping on the bed. Sonny smiles and looks down and sees a very naked Brenda snuggled close to him. He pulls the covers up over her.
S- C’mere Buddy.
Sonny reaches his arms out to Nate. Once Nate comes over to him Sonny picks up Nate and holds him in the air. Nate giggles loudly and Brenda stirs next to Sonny. She buries her head in Sonny’s neck.
Nate- Morning daddy
Sonny sets Nate down on the floor and he runs back into his room. Sonny kisses Brenda’s head and runs his fingers along her jawline.
S- Morning sweetheart.
B- Mmmm, good morning handsome. (she smiles at him) So, we got any plans for today?
S- (sly grin) Well, I could think of a few things we could do, but they’re not fit for the eyes of children.
B- (laughing) Is that all you ever think about?
S- Well, it’s pretty hard to think of anything else when you’re all naked and lying next to me in bed.
B- Well I guess I see your point. (she gets out of the bed and starts walking to the bathroom)
S- Hey, where you going?
B- Well you said you couldn’t think of anything but sex while I was laying next to you so I got up. I’m gonna get a shower while you go make our hungry little boy some breakfast.
S- (gets up and walks over to her) Don’t you know that thinking of you in that shower by yourself is just gonna make me want you more? (wraps his arms around her)
B- Well, too bad cause we got places to go and people to see. So I gotta get ready.
S- (arms still snuggly around her) Well how about we save time and energy and get one together? (kissing her neck)
B- (laughs) Sonny, I doubt that us getting a shower together will save time or energy. So I’ll get my shower, you get Nate’s cereal and then you can get your shower. We’ll have time for your ideas later, I promise.
S- (moving his arms away) Okay, Okay. I give up. But I’m gonna hold you to your promise.
B- (kisses him quickly) I’ll be looking forward to it. (then disappears into the bathroom)
S- Yeah, yeah, yeah. (shakes his head and gets his pajamas on) C’mon Nate, let’s go get some cereal.
Sonny walks into Nate’s room and picks him up.
S- So what kind of cereal does my big boy want for breakfast, huh?
N- Ummm, Fuit Loops daddy.
S- okay Fruit Looks it is. (he carries Nate down into the kitchen)
Fifteen minutes later Brenda comes walking down the stairs, her hair still wet, wearing tight jeans and a blue spaghetti-strapped shirt. She can hear Sonny and Nate’s laughter coming from the kitchen and a bright smile appears on her face. She walks into the kitchen and as soon as Nate sees her he runs into her arms.
B- Aww, good morning baby.
N- Mornin’ momma.
Suddenly the doorbell rings, Nate runs out of Brenda’s embrace and into the livingroom. Brenda gets up and puts her arms around Sonny. He runs his fingers through her wet hair, while kissing her. Nate comes back into the kitchen and starts pulling on Sonny’s pj bottoms to get his attention.
N- Daddy.. Daddy, Aunt Lo is at da door.
S- (pulls away from Brenda and picks Nate up) Okay buddy, let’s go upstairs and dressed while Mommy talks to Aunt Lo. (kisses Brenda once more before going upstairs)
Lo continues to knock on the door.
B- I’m coming Lo. (opens the door and smiles) Good morning.
L- G’morning girlfriend, you’re sure in a good mood today.
B- Yeah (smiles again) well don’t just stand there, c’mon in and sit down.
L- Okay, so any word on your test?
B- Yeah, they called last night, it’s negative.
L- (smiles and hugs her friend) Oh I’m so happy. I knew you were gonna be okay.
Then Nate comes running down the stairs, dressed in blue jeans and white t-shirt.
B- Nate, what did I tell you about running down the stairs?
N- (hugs Lois’s legs) I wasin runnin momma.
Brenda just shakes her head and looks over when she hears Sonny coming down the stairs. Sonny too is dressed in blue jeans and white t-shirt.
S- Nate (Nate turns to look at him) C’mere, you forgot something. (Sonny turns around and places a baseball cap on Nate and then one on himself.
Lois looks at them and starts laughing noticing their matching outfits and Yankee’s caps. Nate leaves Sonny’s side and goes over to play with his toys.
L- So, when did you guys get together?
Sonny sits next to Brenda. He wraps his arms around her holding her close.
S- The first time or the second? (he chuckles and starts kissing Brenda’s neck)
B- (giggling) Sonny.. Sonny stop. Lois, Sonny and Lily are separated, he’s been staying here with me and Nate.
S- Correction, Lily and I are going through divorce proceedings as we speak. (looks in Brenda’s eyes)
B- (tears come to her eyes) What? How come you didn’t tell me this before?
S- (wipes the tears away) Well, you’ve had a lot on your mind, that I thought it would be best to wait.
B- (more tears come to her eyes) Oh G*d. (she throws her arms around him) I love you so much.
S- (holding her tight, running his fingers in her hair) I love you too baby, I love you too.
L- Well, I’m glad that everything is going so well for the both of you. I should be headed back home now cause Nedly probably has his hands full between Brooke and Edward.
S- Aww Edward still giving him a hard time. (he laughs and looks to Brenda) C’mon baby, I thought we catch a Yankee’s game today.
B- (kisses his cheek) Okay. (she walks Lois to the door) I’ll call ya later Lo.
L- ‘kay, have a nice time.
B- (shuts the door) C’mon Nate. Let’s get you some juice and we’ll go the baseball game.
She takes his hand and they walk into the kitchen. Sonny smiles never before feeling so happy inside.
Later, returning from the Yankee’s game, in which the Yankee’s won by the way, Sonny carried a sleeping Nate in the house. They take Nate upstairs to his room, lay him on his bed and cover him with his blankey. They walk back downstairs.
S- Sweetheart, can I get you something to drink?
B- Umm, yeah just a bottled water, thanks.
S- Sure baby.
Sonny comes into the room and sits next to Brenda handing her the bottled water. Brenda leans back into Sonny’s chest feeling his arms wrap around her.
B- I’m so happy Sonny. I never thought that everything would work out this way.
S- Well, I’m happy too baby and I’m not about to let anything spoil our happiness.
Sonny puts his hands on her face and their mouths collide in an intense kiss. He lays her down on the couch and continues to make love with her mouth. His lips move to her neck and she turns her head to the side to give me better access. His fingers make their way up under her shirt while her fingers are tangled in the curls in his hair.
His lips move down to her chest as he pulls her shirt off her and unclasps her bra. He suckles her breast while she tries to pull his shirt off him. He sits up and lifts his shirt off and tosses it on the floor. Her fingers rake his back as she moans in pleasure. All of a sudden the phone starts ringing.
S- Don’t answer it. (his lips move back up to her mouth)
B- Honey what if it’s something important? (she kisses him full of passion while the phone continues ringing)
S- Ughh, I guess you’re right. (he rubs his hands over his face and then picks up the phone)
