Chapter 1
Funeral
Brenda sits at the funeral of Anthony Cordova. Anthony
was a well-known national arms dealer and mob leader,
but to Brenda he was the man who saved her life after
the accident that changed it. He was the man who took
her in when she had no place to live. He was the man who
gave her hope when she couldn’t remember who she was.
He was the man who trusted her with every part of his life.
He was the man who would forever be her friend but
would never have her heart.
Reading of the will
For the past three days Brenda’s head had been spinning.
One day Anthony was there with her and the next day he
wasn’t. Anthony rarely made enemies so his death was
unexpected. Anthony got this way with he business savvy
and not buy death and brutal force. His killer was still
unidentified and his workers were searching for him around
the clock. This ‘reading of the will’ was the last step in her
grieving process. She had no idea that what would come out
at this ‘reading’ would change her life again.
Brenda and all of Anthony’s men and their families sat
their as Anthony’s lawyer began to read the will. Brenda
wasn’t there looking for anything from Anthony. All she
ever asked of him was this friendship. She was there to
show support and regret for their common loss. Brenda’s
mind wanders back to the day she realized Anthony had
saved herl life.
Flashback:
She awakens in an room where she’s never been and
never remembered. A very handsome Spanish man and
enters and smiles at her. He approaches her and bends
down next to her.
A- Hey, you’re finally awake. I know you must be scared,
not knowing where you’re at and all but I won’t hurt you.
My name is Anthony Cordova. You were in an accident
and your car fell over a cliff. I rescued you and brought
you back here for medical attention. Do you remember
your accident?
Brenda nods her head no.
A- Okay, (hold up three fingers) Can you tell me how
many fingers I’m holding up?
B- Three.
A- Great. I know you’re tired but before you go back
to sleep, can you tell me anything about yourself?
B- (shocked) No.... no I can’t remember anything, not
even my name.
A- (smiles reassuringly) Hey no problem. It just so
happens that I know your name. You’re Brenda Barrett
and you just happen to be a famous model in America.
(he runs his hand over her forehead) Now you don’t
worry. I’m sure you’re just tired and your memories
will be back when you wake up. I’ll sit here with you,
so you just relax and go back to sleep.
End of Flashback
Brenda is snapped out of her memory by Diego, Anthony’s
second in-charge, tapping her on the knee.
D- Brenda, he’s almost done reading the will. He’s going
to tell us where the estate goes and who gets the business
next.
B- Oh okay.
Lawyer- Now Mr. Cordova’s estate and all of the
business aspects go to Miss Brenda Barrett.
Brenda sits there as shock takes over every aspect of
her body. This was the day her “New Life” began.
Meeting the next day
Brenda sits at the head of a long rectangular table with
men seated at every other chair. Brenda turns to look
at, Diego, Anthony’s second in charge.
B- I want reports of all the territory we have and all the
territory that is available. Also reports of all the other
companies we have money invested in. And I want this
all by tomorrow.
D- Yes, ma’am.
B- Great. Now I need all of you to continue to work as
usual. Now is not different than it would be you working
for Anthony. I need you to realize that Anthony left this
all to me. I’m running things now and expect to be treated
with the respect I deserve. And if anyone has a problem
with this, they can be dealt with. Am I clear?
Brenda looks around and all the men nod their heads.
She takes this as a good sign, but still she knows she
must prove herself to them, to gain their complete loyalty.
B- Fine, then go back to business. If there are any problems
you come to see me and I will decided how to handle it.
The next afternoon
Brenda is sitting at the daily meeting waiting for the reports
to be given to her.
Diego sits next to her and hands her a series of thick
folders and reports.
D- Here is all the information you requested ma’am.
B- Thank you Diego, and please no ma’am. I was always
Brenda before so it’s still Brenda now. That goes of all
of you, and if you have a problem with that you can call
me Miss Barrett.
Brenda takes al the papers back to her room. She puts
them on the bed and changes into her pajamas. Just by
looking at the amount of papers she knows that it’s
going to be a long afternoon and a long night.
Hours later
D- Marco, you want a drink?
M- Yeah sure. So how do you think Brenda’s doing with
all those papers.
D- (smiles) She’s probably still reading them. But
Anthony wouldn’t have left her in-charge if he didn’t
completely trust her.
M- I know, she can more than handle herself, besides she
was trained by the best.
D- Right, and if she needs any help we’ve got her back.
Many More Hours Later -
Brenda has papers spread out all over her bed. She had
just fallen asleep when her nightmare begins. She dreams,
the same constant dream that plagues her every night.
In her dream, she watching as her mother takes the
steering wheel and drives them off the road and down
the over the cliff. They fall quickly into the ocean and
are swallowed up by the water. She can’t get out, she
tries to get out, but she just can’t get out. Then darkness,
darkness all around.
Brenda jumps up in the middle of her bed, realizing that
she’s fallen asleep and it was, again, only a dream. She
puts her hands over her face and begins to cry. “Oh,
Anthony, why did you leave me to do this? How am
ever gonna handle every thing?” She wipes the tears
that haven’t yet fallen, then a determined look appears
on her face. “You really believed in me, when I didn’t
even believe in myself. You saw my interest in your
business and you taught me everything you knew. I’m
going to run this organization the way you would have.
I’m going to make you proud.”
The next day
Brenda comes out of her room dressed in her “power suit.”
She sets all the files down on the table and then takes a seat.
She looks around and all her men are there.
B- I have gone over all the files. Our resources are plentiful
but I know we can do more. We aren’t currently taking
advantage of all the other territories available to us and I
plan to change this immediately. We are going to start with
those that will be most beneficial to us and then work our
way from there.
D- What do you suggest we go after first?
B- The Corinthos Puerto Rican territories.
Chapter 2
D- What do you suggest we go after first?
B- The Corinthos Puerto Rican territories.
D- How would you like for us to handle this?
B- Start sending the dark knights over there. Small
groups at first, then larger ones as the next few weeks
approach. I’m hoping to have enough enforcements
in-place to have this territory by the end of the month.
D- Okay, I’ll get things moving right away.
Brenda smiles a satisfying smile as the men get up and
get the plans into action.
Outside
Diego is talking with Marco and some of the other guys.
M- How do you think she knew that Tony was going
after Corinthos next?
D- No idea, we were the only people who had any idea
about it. He taught her everything he knew, and he taught
her well. She knows what she’s doing.
M- Yeah, I can’t wait to see the look on Corinthos face
when he realizes he lost his PR territory.
The guys all laugh and leave to get things started.
A week later
Port Charles, NY
Jason gets off the elevator and nods to Johnny who is
standing in-front of Sonny’s door. Johnny opens the
door and Jason can hear Sonny and Carly fighting.
S- Carly, I’m not going to tell you again. No, and that’s
final. (sees Jason) Jason, I didn’t expect to see you.
What’s up?
J- (looks at Carly) Can I talk to you for a minute. It’s
important.
S- (looks back at Carly who’s standing on the stairs)
Yeah, sure. Why don’t we go across the hall.
They walk across the hall and into Jason’s empty penthouse.
S- What’s going on?
J- Well, when we thought that having Anthony Cordova
dead was a good thing, we were wrong. Whoever has
taken over his territory still seems to be going after our
Puerto Rican territory.
S- Well how bad is it?
J- Well, first we thought it was nothing, but over the last
few days it’s getting worse. This person means business.
S- Well, we have to set up a meeting right away. Let this
guy know that this isn’t going to be tolerated.
J- Okay, I’ll get right on it. You can go back to whatever
it was you were doing with Carly.
Jason walks into his office and leaves Sonny standing
there to think about what he said. Sonny sighs and walks
back across the hall.
Cordova estate
Brenda is sitting on the terrace enjoying a late dinner
when Maria walks over to her.
Ma- telephono, senorita.
B- gracias Maria.
Brenda gets up and goes into the den. She sees Diego
on the phone. She sits on the sofa while Diego finishes
up the call.
D- Yes, that will be fine. See you then.
Diego hangs up the phone and smiles at Brenda.
B- What’s up?
D- That was Mr. Morgan, Sonny Corinthos second
man. He called here to request a meeting to discuss
matters.
B- Great. We’ve got them nervous. I’m so glad things
are going as planned. Make sure you have our men
put more pressure on them tomorrow.
D- Will do. Goodnight Brenda.
B- Goodnight Diego, see you in the morning.
Port Charles, NY
Jason is sitting in his livingroom looking over the
Cordova territories when Sonny knocks and comes in.
Jason looks over at Sonny.
S- Did you get the meeting set up?
J- Yeah, I’m leaving tonight and the meeting is
tomorrow afternoon.
S- Good, don’t give anything up. Just they them know
where we stand and that trying to get our PR territory
isn’t a smart move.
J- That’s what I plan on doing.
S- Okay. Call me once the meeting’s over and let me
know. We might have to make a move if he’s persistent
about this.
The next afternoon
Jason pulls up at the main gate of the Cordova estate.
He looks it over, it’s considerably bigger than he
thought it would be. He checks with the guard and he’s
allowed in. He gets to the front door and a Diego
answers the door expectantly.
D- Good afternoon, Mr. Morgan. Please come and
have a seat in our conference room. We will be in shortly.
Jason checks the place over as Diego leads him to the
large conference room. He takes a seat and Diego leaves.
Ten minutes later Diego and Marco enter the room they
stand by the seats across from Jason, leaving an empty
seat directly across from Jason. Just then a door from
across the room opens and everyone looks in that
direction. Brenda appears at the door and Jason stands
there shocked.
J- (lowly) Brenda?
Brenda walks over to take her seat between Diego and
Marco across from Jason. She reaches out to shake his
hand. Jason snaps out of his daze and she her hand.
B- Pleasure to meet you Mr. Morgan. Please have a seat.
They all sit down.
B- Now, to the matter at hand. What can we do for you?
J- I don’t understand. What are you doing here? Brenda?
M- That’s Ms. Barrett to you.
J- Huh?
B- Mr. Morgan, do you have a problem doing business
with me? I don’t have time for games. You were the
one who requested this meeting and I was more than
willing to oblige, but I will not sit here and have you
questioning me.
Brenda sits there in business mode looking very authorities.
All Jason can do is look back at her surprisingly as he
feels things are not what they appear.
J- I’m sorry Ms. Barrett. My judge of things was tainted.
There is no more reason for this meeting. I must leave
now as I have other matters to attend too. I’ll be in-touch
with you soon though.
B- (frustrated) Marco, show Mr. Morgan to the door.
Jason gets in this car and dials Sonny’s cell phone as he
is driving to the airport. In Port Charles Sonny is at
Luke’s working on the books when his phone rings. He
answers it.
S- Corinthos
J- Sonny it’s Jason.
S- Jason, how was the meeting?
J- Well, let’s just say that the meeting didn’t go off as
planed. I really think there is more to this than we could
have ever realized.
S- Jason what are you talking about?
J- Sonny I really think they are specifically looking to
target you.
S- What would give you that impression?
J- Sonny, you weren’t at this meeting. You didn’t see her.
S- See who?
J- Brenda.
Chapter 3
S- Jason, what the hell are you talking about? Brenda?
J- Sonny, I had a meeting with “Brenda“. I think they’re
going after you by using a look-a-like.
S- Why would they go to all that trouble, if they are
working on my PR territory?
J- I don’t know, I really think you’re going to have to check
it out for yourself.
S- (sighs) Yeah, I guess your right. I’ll talk to you when
you get back in town. I guess I should start to pack.
J- Okay, talk to you then.
Sonny runs his hands through his hair. A smile appears on
his face at the thought of Brenda, but it quickly disappears
when he hears Carly bounding down the stairs calling for
him to come up to bed.
S- Yeah, yeah Carly. I’ll be up in a minute.
Sonny walks over to the window and looks down to
the city below. He doesn’t see the cars or the people,
his mind flashes back to the last time he seen Brenda.
He wonders, ‘Could it really be her’?
Cordova estate
B- What do you think that was all about?
D- I’m not sure. He seemed a little shook up.
M- Yeah, I think he was intimidated by you because
your a woman.
B- Well, whatever, keep pushing the pressure. This will
be easier than we expected.
The next day - Sunday
Sonny has spoken to Jason, and packed his bags. He
took the first flight to Madrid so he could see it for himself.
His driver pulls up to the estate and he was cleared to enter.
Diego opens the door to greet him in his Sunday clothes.
D- Mr. Corinthos, please come in.
S- Thank you. Quite a place you have here.
D- Yes, please have a seat in conference room. We
will be with you shortly.
S- Okay.
Diego escorts Sonny to the conference room. Once
Diego leaves Sonny there Sonny gets up to check the
place out. He wanders though the halls until he comes
to the dining room. He’s amazed by it’s beauty.
He can hear kids playing. He looks out the large sliding
glass doors that lead to the backyard. He watches as
about a dozen kids run and play around. That’s when he
sees her. She’s playing with the kids.
Brenda was in the yard playing with the guys kids. Today
was Sunday, better known as family day. They’d always
have a cook-out and all the kids could play together. She
had them all sitting in a circle and they were playing
duck-duck-goose. She was walking around tapping their
heads when she tapped Anthony’s she yelled goose and
started running back to her spot. He ran after her and jumped
on her. All the kids were laughing together. She grabbed
him and started tickling him and all the other kids started
tickling her. Somehow, she wound up on her back with all
the kids around her and on top of her.
Diego walked through the kitchen and into the dining
room and shot a stern look toward Sonny, who just
shrugged him off. Diego opened the glass door and went
to talk with Brenda.
B- Diego, what’s up?
D- Ms. Barrett, Mr. Corinthos is here to see you.
Diego reaches a hand out to help her up.
B- Okay, I had a feeling yesterday was a little too easy.
Let the way.
They come inside and Sonny is there waiting for them.
He stands there paralyzed by her beauty.
B- Good afternoon, Mr. Corinthos. It’s a pleasure to
meet you. You’ll have to excuse my appearance. It’s
family Sunday and we usually dress down. (she looks
at him strangely)
S- Oh, (he dimples) you look fine, very beautiful infact.
(notices her looks) What? What’s wrong?
B- (blushes slightly)Oh, nothing’s wrong. It’s just..
I don’t know, I just have the feeling that I’ve met you
somewhere before. I know that’s impossible because
I would have remembered. Sorry about that.
Sonny looks back at her. His eyes pleading with her
to remember something, anything at all. He shrugs as
not to show her is disappointment.
S- That’s fine, no problem at all.
B- Please have a seat. Now, I had the pleasure of
speaking to your associate, Mr. Morgan, yesterday
and he never gave me a clear idea of what the matter
was. I seemed pretty shaken.
S- Oh, well some people just do that to him. You’ll
have to excuse his behavior. I’ve come here to tell ask
you why you’re going after my Puerto Rican territory.
B- Oh well that’s very obvious. Your PR territory is
being wasted. You are not using it to it’s full potential
and I know that I could do that. It would be a very good
investment for me.
S- (practically yelling) Where do you get off telling me
I’m not using it’s full potential? Do you know how much
we get from PR alone? You just want it to run the shady
aspects of your business.
B- Excuse me Mr. Corinthos. You will talk respectfully
to me in my home.
S- (lowly) I’m sorry Ms...?
B- Ms. Barrett.
S- I’m sorry Ms. Barrett, I seemed to have lost my
cool there for a minute. A lovely lady like yourself can
do that to a man.
B- I know how much you make from PR. I also know
that you could make much more off it if you wanted to.
I don’t deal in prostitution or drugs. They are a waste of my time.
S- Well, that’s nice to hear, but then what did you
have in mind for my territory?
B- Your Puerto Rican territory has many valuable resource
that you probably never thought of. I’ve had my top
geologist run a full check of the land. I always know
what I’m getting into before I go after it. Yours was at
the top of the list of prospects.
S- Well, I’m sure we can make some kind of a deal as to
you giving me your ideas on how you’d use the resources.
B- (she laughs) Don’t think just because I’m a woman
that automatically makes me dumb. I’d never give my plans
or even think of partnerships, without knowing what I’d be
getting in return.
S- Well I’m sure I can have my accountant draw up a
reasonable proposal.
B- Fine, that about settles matters for now. Because
you’ve come all this way, I assume you won’t be
returning home tonight?
S- Yes, I’m staying at Grande Hotel.
B- Well you’re more than welcome to stay here. Marco,
call the Grande Hotel and have them send over Mr.
Corinthos’ things right away.
M- Yes, Ms. Barrett right away.
B- Now, Mr. Corinthos..
S- (interrupts) Please call me Sonny.
B- Of course, Sonny, (she smiles)Please join us outside.
If you’d like to go swimming I’m sure there is something
of Anthony’s you could wear until your things arrive.
Here I’ll show you to his room.
Sonny walks closely behind Brenda, admiring her
wonderful figure as she walks up the steps. He knows
that it’s his Brenda, it just hurts him that she doesn’t
remember him. She’s so different, so.. so... he couldn’t
even put a word on it.
Chapter 4
Brenda walks Sonny to Anthony’s room. She opens
the drawer where Anthony kept all his suits.
B- You both seem to be about the same size so I’m
sure that it won’t be a problem. Meet me down in the
pool when you’re done?
S- Sure (said in a jealous tone, thinking of how she
knew exactly where to find everything in this room)
Once he was finished changing he walked downstairs
through the dining room to the backyard. His eyes
catch sight of the large built-in pool. Then he spotted
her. He watches as she expertly dives in and his mind
wanders back to Puerto Rico and when they were together.
Sonny puts the towel Brenda left out for him down
on a chair and hops in the pool. Marco tosses the
volleyball to Brenda and she catches it.
M- Hey Bren, ya up for a game?
B- Of course. I still owe you payback for last week.
M- Yeah if you don’t get beat to the ground again.
B- Like that could ever happen two weeks in a row.
You’re gonna wish you didn’t ask me to play ya.
M- Okay lets set up teams.
Before they could start the game, Diego came out to
inform Brenda that she had a phone call.
B- Excuse me guys, this won’t take long.
She steps out of the pool and sits down on a lounge
chair to dry herself off. She looks down at Sonny, who
was swimming with Marco and others. Suddenly she
has a headache and quickly sits back down. She puts
her hands on her head and shuts her eyes. Images come
floating back. Running, her and Sonny running from men,
then jumping into a speedboat. They make love on the
beach and go to a concert.
Marco jumps out of the pool and rushes over to Brenda.
M- What’s wrong Bren?
B- (opens her eyes) Huh? Oh, nothing I just have a headache.
Sonny comes about the water and sees Marco next to
Brenda who has her head in her hands. He quickly gets
out of the pool. He goes over and kneels down next to
her.
Marco helps Brenda up and looks strangely at Sonny.
He can’t understand why Sonny has such an interest in
Brenda. Brenda walks into the den where Diego is
waiting for her.
D- What just happened out there?
B- I don’t really know. It was like I was having a
flashback of some kind. It was like I was watching
myself at a different time.
D- “Are you okay?” Brenda nods. “Why don’t you
rest for a while?”
B- Diego, stop worrying about me. I’m gonna be fine,
I’m always fine.
Meanwhile outside Sonny continues to pace back
and forth beside the pool. He sees Marco and walks
over to him.
S- Marco - What’s going on with Brenda? Is she
okay?
M- Yeah, she’s fine. She just had some sort of
flashback.
S- Well I wanna see her.
M- She’ll be out shortly.
Brenda comes out a few minutes later. She notices
that the tables are set for dinner. Just then Marco’s
son, Antonio, craws over to her. She picks him up
and carries him with her outside.
Sonny looks up when he sees Brenda. She notices
the look of concern on his face. He watches as she
holds the baby. Wishing it was their child she was holding,
wishing she was back in Port Charles with him and
they were married and had started their own family.
Chapter 5
Everyone has long gone back to their houses with
their families. Everyone, except that is, Brenda and Sonny.
They were sitting on the back deck in the swing look
up at the stars.
S- It’s really beautiful here tonight. The weather is
perfect.
B- Yeah it is. It’s relaxing. Usually every night I sit
and watch the stars, especially the way they
sparkle on the water.
S- Yeah, I once had a lady and we had a special
place by the water, but that was a long time ago.
He turns to look at her and with the moonlight
glowing on her face it almost seems like nothing’s
changed. She looks over at him and slightly blushes
at the way he’s looking at her. He takes his hand
and gently runs the back of it down her cheek. She
closes her eyes feeling his sweet caresses. She slightly
opens them again and watches as his lips approach
her own. Her heart starts beating faster, her eyes droop
while her fingers tangle in his hair sending tingles
down his spine.
Their kisses become increasingly more intense as
Sonny places his hands on her face. He stands up
and reaches for her hands. She gladly gives them to
him. He kisses them and pulls her up toward him. She
guides him to her room and closes the door behind them.
Hey lays her down on the bed climbing on top of her.
He begins undressing her while kissing every inch of
her exposed flesh. He pushes his shirt off, while she begins
pushing down his pants and boxers.
Their kissing intensifies when he quickly thrusts into her.
She wraps her legs around him bringing him in further.
He trusts faster and harder until their climaxes peak
and they fall exhausted into each others arms.
The next morning Sonny wakes up and reaches out for
Brenda but only feels an empty bed. He opens his
eyes and doesn’t see her anywhere. He goes back to
his room, changes and then goes downstairs to look
for her. He sees Diego and goes over to him.
S- Diego, have you seen Miss Barrett?
D- Mr. Corinthos, Miss Barrett is in a meeting right now,
I’ll show you to the dinning room where you may wait for her.
Sonny begins eating the breakfast that was prepared for
him while waiting for Brenda to finish her meeting. About
fifteen minutes later she walks in to the dinning room and
sits down with him.
B- Diego said you were looking for me?
S- Yeah, well, I guess I just figured after what happened
last night we’d at least say good morning to each other.
B- Good morning, Sonny, but I’m afraid that last night
was a mistake. It should have never happened. Let’s
just put it behind us, shall we?
This was different for Sonny. Usually it was the woman
who wanted the relationship with him after they had sex,
now Brenda didn’t want anything to do with him. He didn’t
know what to make of it. He was afraid to pressure her
about it but he knew that he could never forget the passion
that they shared.
S- Umm, yeah okay.
B- Wonderful. Now I’ve arranged for a limo to take
you to the airport whenever you’re ready. Is there
anything else I could do for you?
S- No that’s fine thanks.
B- Okay. Well I have a few things that I have to take
care of, so if I don’t see you before you leave, have
a nice flight.
S- Yeah, thanks.
Brenda leaves the table while Sonny watches her go.
Sonny is finished and about to stand up from the table
when Marco comes over to him.
M- Mr. Corinthos, if you’re not busy at this moment,
may I talk to you in private for a moment.
S- Sure.
Marco leads Sonny into his private office.
M- Please have a seat.
Sonny sits down in a plush chair while Marco takes
a key out of his desk and unlocks a drawer in a cabinet.
He pulls out many thick folders and sets them on his
desk. He flips through them then pulls out a piece of
paper.
M- I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.
(he shows the picture to Sonny) Mr. Corinthos is this
you in this pictures.
Sonny looks down at the picture of him and Brenda
from back in 1996.
