On the wednesday morning after the Heart of Midlothian players enlisted the former Hearts goalkeeper Andy Henderson arrived with five other Falkirk professionals to take the 'Kings Shilling.'

Three feature in the photograph of the 16th battalion team picture of October 15.

Lce.-Cpl Alex Henderson. Wounded.

Pte Andy Henderson Goalkeeper.  Wounded & also suffered from phosgene gas poisoning.  This gas could easily kill those who removed their gas helmets and attempted to deal with the irritation caused by the gas.
Former Hearts player, and this may well have influenced his decision to enlist.     So it is possible to deduce that was the reason others enlisted also.

Pte R.P.Wood. Wounded.

Pte Frank Reilly

Pte Michael Gibbons

Pte John Morrison

Dick Fox, From Bonnybridge, a labourer, was among Falkirk men who joined.

Men from Falkirk F.C. are always among those who attend the memorial service at the Haymarket on Armistice day.
