I can hear the pieces of my shattered heart clink as they plunge toward the floor. My tears follow close behind. Soon, the floor beneath my feet is covered; covered with remnants of us. Our love. Our life. Our past. They are scattered about so they canbe walked on and forgotten. They are to be left as a faint memory of a distant place Where we once were and never will be again. I wrote this poem after I realized that I would never be with Nile again. He was my first true love and after over a year of hanging on to him, he got together with another girl (on my birthday no less). I was totally heart-broken. This is one of my most favorite poems. I even used it as the beginning of an essay. I wrote this poem during one of the saddest hours of my life. | |||||||
