"The Wyrm-Soul Campaign"

Campaign Dates: 10 Mirtul - 18 Kythorn, 1372DR, The Year of Wild Magic

Kythorn (June)

Session 21: “Dr. Loquatious, I Presume?”

1000 - The group receives a desparate sending from Loquatious requesting their help in freeing them from a ruined mansion in the center of town. The group decides to move west and skirt around the forest towards the town from a sheltered approach. Tasha and Riven scout ahead, eventually finding the mansion surrounded by goblins, ogres, and two giants. They move closer and Tasha is surprised by a number of Drow staking out the interior of the building, which is on fire. Riven tries to use his charms to convince the goblinoid and giant allies to depart, but battle inside prevents the ruse from working too well. As the rest of the group catches up, the battle explodes as both sides inflict serious damage on each other. The party eventually kills or drives off their opponents, much to the DM’s displeasure. At the session’s end, they group succeeds in drawing Loquatious’s group out of the trap, and prepare to flee.

Session 22: “Oh, Bugger!”

1100 - After freeing Loquatious and the others, the group moved quickly out of the town to try to hide in the nearby woods. They were chased by a group of heavy cavalry that nearly caught them while escaping into Darius’s conjured rope trick spells. While resting, Loquatious and his crew explained the events of the last few months, including the motivations behind the attack on Kielbast. When the party returned to the realm, they fled to the bolt-hole, trying to hide the shiny paladin. While running, they were ambushed by a flying cavalry scout platoon led by an Ogre Mage. The battle ended up with Mr. Skorluni and Dorim slain. However, they were victorious, finally returning to the bolt-hole to rest in the city.

Session 23: “Just let us sleep, PLEASE!”

1600 – The group’s return to the city is met with thanks and presentations of gifts. They are able to salvage many items from their battle with the Drow, which Ophelia identifies. The City also presents the group with gifts of city rings, potions, and a minor magical item of choice. After the ceremony, Moniqe explains that her group will attempt to attack the Dracolich in order to remove it as a threat to the city. Because of the danger of this, she invites the group to help them.

While resting, the group is visited by a number of strangers offering advice on who to trust or not to trust. It seems that the party’s choice falls between seeking out the Hags of the Dragon. Later, around 4 am, a scaled fiend with wings assaults Tasha’s house, casting many fire spells and throwing the party into disarray. After the beast is finally slain in burst of flame, the group leaves to rest in the temple of Red Knight. At dawn, Morbur and the elves return to tell them that the Moon Dancer is destroyed and Monique, Dorim, and Mr. Sorluni are missing.

Session 24: “Sweet Dreams are Made of These”

0700- Little happens here beyond the party resting and trying to figure out what is going on. They also ask Terry Goodnoodle to try to research some facts for them regarding dragons and hags.

Session 25: “Under the Sea”

0900 - Alexander, Cerrick, and Willow head back to the Moondancer to try to investigate what happened earlier that morning. At the harbor, they borrow a boat and row out to the Moondancer, sensing great evil. While swimming through the wreckage, they discover the ghost of Monique, who explains her need for revenge before she can rest. Suddenly, the ghouls in the wreckage surround them and attack. The trio then retreats to the docks to make a stand.

At the docks, Alexander and Cerrick demonstrate the joys of cleave and holy damage, reducing the once scary monsters to a simple farce. The group uses the Hag Wand to discern the location of at least one hag to be at the lighthouse. After resting completely, they borrow two boats and row out to the north side of the Island. On the beach, they meet a small-9 year-old boy. At Riven’s behest, Alexander quickly and efficiently subdues the helpless child with an arrow through the leg. The party then surrounds the child to ensure no chance of escape.

Session 26: “The Lighthouse”

1100 – After they capture the small, helpless child, the party begins searching the buildings of the lighthouse island. Sylvia wins an Oscar for her rendition of “Willow had a Little Lamb.” As the party explores the barn, they are interrupted by Selice, the Lightwarden’s Daughter. She yells at them and then goes to get her father, Zembrath Klun. Zembrath interrogates the party and agrees to let them inspect the lighthouse. The party discovers a symbol of Shar along with bloodstains on the floor of the main hall. When confronted with this, Zembrath admits his allegiance with Shar and attacks the party while three of them are alone with him in the light tower. He brings out a coin ensorcelled with Deeper Darkness and climbs out on the roof while his four gargoyles attack. He then casts Sanctuary on himself and summons four shadows. The four in the tower try to retreat, dimension dooring to the ground and fleeing down the stairs. Tasha is ambushed in the stairs by an unseen assailant and greviously wounded. The attacks seem to halt and the party turns to re-enter the house. As they turn, they are ambushed again by the maximized fireball of Selice, who was hiding in the barn. They flee up the stairs and encounter the nine-year old, learning that he is possessed.

Session 27: “Fire Tastes Bad”

1130 – The party continues their interrogation, learning that the wand given them to find the Hags was a one-use item. The imp possessing the child flees as the Klun family attacks again. The party looks out the windows of the house to see their boats being smashed by gargoyles. A fierce battle follows, with shadows, shadow mastiffs, and prodigious use of darkness magic. The Klun family uses a strategy of hit and run tactics, slowly wearing down the party and striking from a distance with spells. Deadly spells are cast both into and out of the many spheres of darkness dotting the lighthouse. In the battle, Willow and Tasha are struck down by a fireball cast from within the sphere of darkness. The session ends when the party destroys the guardian gargoyles and the Klun family disappears. The party then flees the island on the last remaining boat.

Sesstion 28: “House of Goodnoodle”

1350 – The party rests for a while at the temple of Red Knight. Many characters have visions concerning the hags, their drow allies, and the hordes of goblinkin infesting the countryside. Many hints point towards the location of the main temple being in the Glacier of the White Wyrm. That evening, Terry Goodnoodle stumbles across Alexader, gibbering franticly about clawed fiends and visibly traumatized by attacks. Terry falls into a coma and is turned over to the clerics of the hold for healing.

1700 – After learning of their visions and the dangers posed to Terry; Riven, Alexander, Cerrick and Linda’s new character head over to Terry’s tower to try to determine what attacked him. While in the library at the tower’s base, they encounter a pair of magical guardians. They are then suddenly attacked by a pair of demons as they try to negotiate with the tower’s guardians. As they flee to the surface, they encounter the demons’ master, The Patriarch of the Klun Family. However, the Klun is quickly overpowered by Riven and flees.

Session 29: “Night at the Moonglow Tavern”

1700 – Eve and Darius receive an invitation from Lady Nulare De’Spare to join her at the Moonglow tavern and discuss the current situation. They are met by what appeared to be a young lady and a coachman, who each turn out to be members of the Klun family, the mother and daughter. The pair are led into a dark alley at dusk, where the Kluns attempt to assassinate them. A long, powerful battle ensues, with Darius and Eve narrowly escaping death. The Kluns are narrowly defeated, leaving Eve and Daruis no choice but to return to the temple for help.

1800 – The party reunites at the temple, and then decides to track down Nulare at the Moonglow tavern. Nulare explains that she and the group have a common enemy in the hags and offers to help them in their quest. After some debate, the party agrees to her help. She provides them with a pair of teleport scrolls and offers a magical cat statue to help as well.

1200 – The party meets with Nulare at the Moonglow tavern the next day at mid-day and accepts her offer. They teleport soon after to the temple under the city. They appear back in the same underground vault and begin exploring the symbols on the ground. They are surprised by a band of cloakers led by a master cloaker of some sorts. A terrible battle follows, with Alexander luckily slaying the boss cloaker with a shot between the eyes. After driving off the cloakers, the party uses the Obex portal to try to find the Hags.

Session 30: “In the Mouth of Madness”

1300 – The Party steps out onto a wind-swept precipice at the edge of a massive glacier. A dormant volcano dominates the landscape. Between the volcano and the glacier, a desolate tower lies cloaked in shadow. The party moves down into the crevasse to explore the tower, thinking that it might be the hiding place of the hags. As they approach, the are attacked by a mysterious tentacled monstrosity, a foul creature capable of calling lightning bolts to crash down upon them from the sky. A spectacular aerial battle follows, wherein the party slays the vile creature. They finally gain entrance to the top of the tower and settle down to investigate the top floor, battling numerous minor undead as they continue further down. The session closes after a battle with a number of vampire spawn, suggesting that a greater evil lies within.
