a. I have deleted some skills and added others.
Deleted:
- Profession – this is a lame skill. A profession is a collection of skills combined with dedication to learn the myriad subcultures associated with it. A Lawyer, for example, would have ranks in Knowledge (Law), Diplomacy, Bluff, Gather Information, and others. An Inn Keeper would Have Knowledge (Accounting) as well as any number of his other specialties. You get the idea. This was simply a stupid skill. Deleted.
Added:
Changed:
- Concentration is modified by Wisdom. It is your mind’s ability to focus when distractions are present.
- Use Magic Device is modified by Intelligence. You are using your creativity, observations, and intuition to puzzle out how to get the item to activate, not forcing it to activate.
- Use Rope is likewise modified by Intelligence: Your ability to follow patterns and assess stress points is more important than the skill’s physical requirements.
- The idea that reading and writing is an automatic skill for everyone but Barbarians is poorly thought out. In a medieval world, there is no universal education system that ensures all children learn how to read and write. In that day and age, only the privleged few could read. Everyone must spend skill points on Reading and Writing in order to have that ability. Also, when learning to read, you select one written script described in the Campaign Guide to the Forgotten Realms.
Skill Points are limited to too limited a rate of growth. Use the following rates:
| Class | Old | New |
| Barbarian | 4 | 4 |
| Bard | 4 | 6 |
| Cleric | 2 | 3 |
| Druid | 4 | 4 |
| Fighter | 2 | 2 |
| Monk | 4 | 4 |
| Paladin | 2 | 3 |
| Ranger | 4 | 5 |
| Rogue | 8 | 8 |
| Sorceror | 2 | 2 |
| Wizard | 2 | 3 |
Note:The above are increased by the wisdom modifier, not intelligence.
