Session 7: Perils of the Wood
  • The party continued south into the Forest of Lethyr- a thick, ancient forest little explored by man. At the end of their journey lay the hamlet of Loch Durnan, but the road ahead would present them many dangers before the journey was finished.
  • While the party was resting in the evening. Ivaeleus noticed a disturbance to the north of the party. He quietly woke the party and alerted them to danger. Giant, bulbous spiders had woven a curtain of webbing to ensnare the party. Before they could mount an attack, the spiders had completely surrounded the campsite and were starting to weave their webs above them as well. Unable to delay any longer, Claz and Ivaleus led the others on an attack against their monstrous opponents. Kyte was struck a telling blow by one spider that dropped out of the treebranches to sting him with a venomous bite. Almost downed, Kyte was saved by the fortunate ministrations of Niclaus.
  • As the last spider dropped to the earth in twisted death, seven wood-spirits emerged from nearby trees. Although their forms were similar to maidens, their hair seemd to be as moss and their skin was like soft, smooth bark. Ancient wisdom could be seen in their eyes and their voices were deep and strong. The maidens (dryads, as Ivaleus described them) warned the party to leave the woods as humans were no longer welcome there. Ivaleus answered that he would guide the party, but the Fey creatures responded dubiously that the elves had already abandoned the forest centuries ago. Niclaus, Claz, and the others then offered their assistance to the dryads in exchange for safe passage. The dryads then charged the party with the task of cleansing a holy site of the woods that had been corrupted by the priesthood of Malar. The party agreed to head east in the morning.
