24 Flamerule, 1372 DR

Session 6: Moving Westward
  • The party set out on the morning of the 24th, following the road east into the Dale. As they travelled, they passed a handful of small hamlets and farmsteads. Travel was relatively easy because, unlike the rest of the dale, the ancient road is still in good condition thousands of years after the Nar Empire had it built.
  • On the second day of their travels, the group camped at the base of the Great Barrow. The Great Barrow is actually a series of earthen monds surrounding one immense earthen mound, the origins of which are still unclear. While camping, they noticed a collection of campfires out in the distance, but decided to wait until morning to investigate.

  • On the morning of the 26th, the party crossed paths with a caravan heading West towards Uthmere. The Woman who spoke for the caravan explained that they were of the Kamii tribe and that they were traveling west to trade their goods of iron and wanted to know if the war was going well for the city. When the party responded that there was no war in Uthmere, she seemed surprised and continued the small talk, including news of recent battles in Rashemen where the forces of nature were attacking the humans of that nation. She also noted her surprise at seeing two elves in the party and explained that almost all of "The People" abandoned these woods many centuries ago.
  • That evening, the party camped just north of where the Dalestream bent south into the Forest of Lethyr. On Ivaleus and Kyte's watch, a pair of strange dire-rats appeared while Ivaleus was out hunting. The rats began to harrass him and circle the camp. Kyte, wary of their strange behavior, tried to simply keep watch and not allow himself to be drawn away from the camp. However, one rat managed to get into the camp and steal a waterskin, so Kyte gave chase. As Kyte chased the rat, he narrowly avoided falling into a pit trap dug into the earth about 200 feet south of the campsite. As he recovered and killed the rat that was obviously trying to kill him, Kyte was struck by an arrow from out in the darkness. The party, now awake and actively trying to hunt out their assailant, scattered out into the darkness in pursit of the archer. Just as they thought they had killed the archer, their "enemy" turned out to be a stuffed decoy.
  • Frustrated at the evening's attack, the party "reset their watch" and slept a little extra to before heading out the next morning.

  • On the 27th, the party tracked their assailant south until the tracks were lost at the Dalestream. Frustrated by their inability to follow their quarry any further, they agree to continue south into the Forest of Lethyr. Ivaeleus assures them that, as he is an experienced woodsman, the journey will be safer with his guidance.
