Introduction:
During a talk show, where this project was discussed
with my students majority of them expressed interest and wished that they were
totally involved in it. A questionnaire was drawn to this effect based on
students ideas on the project. A lesson plan was also prepared by the teacher.
It was followed by answering the questionnaires by the students which provided
data for the project.
What went
well.
Students gained a great deal of information from the
project. The zeal and the enthusiasm with which they tackled the project made
it a real success.
Unexpected
Problems.
We needed to use our computers to store and analyze
most of the information on the project but frequent power cuts delayed the
early completion of the project.
Classroom
Organization.
Due to the limited number of computers we had at our
disposal, students were put into groups to enable each of them have equal
access to the computers. Students therefore had enough time to work on the
project.
Suggested
Changes.
Enough computer centers should be secured to enable
students’ work on the project within time.
Students should be well organized and controlled to
avoid time wasting and unnecessary discussions to enable them focus on the
project without neglecting also other important duties they have to perform.
Feedback.
A great deal of awareness was created in students
and the public especially in the Asokwa area about the problems associated with
sign posting. Co-teachers and other workers were brought to the realization
that messages written on signposts carry a lot of mistakes. My Headmaster and
other administrators were very much pleased with the project, more especially
when it had to deal with the Asokwa community where my school is located. A few
artisans we contacted were happy because to them, it opened a new chapter for
them to ensure decency in their work.
Assessment.
Students were dispatched in groups to the Asokwa
community to find and record the type of lettering style used in writing the
messages. They were also required to record the commonest type of lettering
used.
On the other assessment, students were required to
find out the colours used for the signposts. They assessed them on the
following criteria; COLOUR HARMONY, CONTRAST, and INTENSITY. Students were
scored based on these findings.
