| Gertrude is a 9 year old 12.1hh black registered Dartmoor mare. Belongs to my sister, Angie. We broke her to ride just after Angie bought her when Gerty was 6 years old. All was going well and within 6 months Angie was aiming to do Working Hunter Pony classes as Gerty was showing to enjoy jumping. But that was short lived as only 2 days after Devon County Show. Gerty we think was possibly kicked and fractured her nearside hind splint bone. Thankfully it was decided that if we put her on box rest for at least 3 months it would possibly mend. Many X Rays followed and the bone slowly mended. It was nearer 5 months before she was given the all clear to go outside again.Angie was then alowed to take her slowly and bring her back into work. The work slowly built up until now you wouldnt know that it was touch and go for a while. Gerty most would say is a childs pony. But dont let Angie catch you saying that! Dartmoors are tough little weight carriers. For hundreads of years have carried farmers across Dartmoor.Angie and Gerty have great fun together doing abit of everything. Gerty is a very strong pony and would not make a ideal childs pony. She is a BIG horse in a little pony body. |
