| In the 60's and 70's, United had to rebuild their team, and try to regain their trophies. In 1963, United won the FA Cup. Between 1964 and 1968, Manchester United won the league twice, finished second twice, and fourth once. In 1968, United were the first english team to win the European Cup. The following year, Matt Busby resigned from his position as manager after twenty three years at Manchester United. Throughout the 60's and 70's United saw many changes to their team, and had won more of their games. In 1976, Busby's successor Tommy Docherty was sacked, and Dave Sexton became the second manager after Matt Busby. In August 1978, United defeated Real Madrid in their centenary game, 4-0. |
| The 80's and 90's saw further success in the competitions United participated in, winning the Premiership, and the Champions League several times. It also saw Alex ferguson become manager in 1986, Eric Cantona signing for United in 1992, the death of Sir Matt Busby im January 1994, and the unforgetable Treble in May 1999, leading Alex Ferguson to knighthood. Solskjaer was the man who secured United's win against Bayern Munich, with his 90th minute goal. |
| With the turn of a new millenium, Manchester United's success has not stopped. After winning the premiership 8/11 times, and reaching the finals and semi finals of the Champions League, the Reds are sure to add to their collection of trophies. With the new signings Sir Alex has made over the past few summers, the United squad has never been stronger and more successful. With forwards, midfielders, and defenders experienced and young, Ferguson's team have the potential to acheive anything. Nothing is impossible for Manchester United. |
