Cristiano Ronaldo began his footballing career at the Portugese club Nacional. He then moved to Sporting Lisbon, another big club in Portugal, and made his debut there at just seventeen. There, he made 25 appearances and scored three goals. It was also during his time at Sporting Lisbon, that many European football scouts were watching the young boy and his talent. Manchester United were first amazed by Ronaldo's wide range of skill during a pre-season friendly match against Sporting Lisbon. After discussing Ronaldo with the players, SIr Alex made his move and decideded to sign him. Ronaldo made his Manchester United debut that summer, against Bolton Wonderers in August 2003. From the second he stepped onto the pitch, all United fans could see that the �12.4 million summer signing was money well spent. Ronaldo continued to impress all, and had a fantastic first season with United. He ended his season with an equally as brilliant award: The Sir Matt Busby Player Of The Year Award. On went Ronaldo into the 2004/2005 campagin, continuing with his fancy footwork and step-overs. He often teamed up with Ryan Giggs, which caused chaos for their opponents down the wings, as the pair switched sides. Despite the season finishing trophy-less, Ronaldo took it into his stride, and played fantastically well. |
