| Old Trafford, home to Manchester United, is the largest football stadium in England. It's capacity reaches 67,400, and with new plans to extend the stadium further, by 2008 it is expected to reach almost 80,000. It has more facilities than any other stadium in the UK. With it's spectacular three storey museum, the 17,000 square feet Megastore, and the fantastic Red Cafe, Old Trafford is the place every United fan worships. Old Trafford's official opening was on the 19th February, 1910. Almost 100 years ago, 50,000 people attended the game against Liverpool, whom unfortunatley won 4-3. Since then, Old Trafford has undergone many changes, to make it the fantastic place it is today. One of the many features inside Old Trafford, is the fansinating historic museum- full of memorabillia, previous kits, and the many trophys united have won. Located in the North Stand, the museum opened in 1998, and has since had millions of visitors. The museum contains various displays about the greatest, and the tragic United moments. One of the largest displays at Old Trafford is the memorium of the Munich AIr Disaster. On February 6th 1958, an aeroplane which was carrying the United team, coaching staff and journalists, tragically crashed, killing or injuring all on board. Another large display at Old Trafford is from May 1999- The Treble. This display is fairly new to Old Trafford, and is an interactive corridor. TV screens show the moment Skolskjaer put the ball in the top right, and gave United the win they deserved. At the end of the corridor, you reach a small trophy room, containing replicas of the three cups United won in the Treble. The Megastore, heaven to all United fans, is THE place for all of your official Manchester United merchandise. You name it, they have it. From bedroom furniture to clothing, DVDs to bags and footballs, everything is United. In the seventeen-thousand square feet, there is such a huge variety of products one can spend alot of time, (and money) in there. If you cannot reach the Megastore why not shop in the online Megastore? The Red Cafe is the place to eat at Old Trafford. With food from a large variety of places worldwide, whatever you like there will be something there for you. Located several floors high in Old Trafford, the view from the Red Cafe is perfect- you can see the city of Manchester all around. With furniture in the United colours, no where else could make eating that enjoyable. |
