When Sir Matt Busby arrived at Old Trafford in 1945, he came with a vision of making the most successful football team in England. He succeeded, bringing young players to the club and earning his team the nick-name 'The Busby Babes'. However, this perfect vision was short-lived, and came to a sudden end on February 6th, 1958...

On that fateful day, February 6th 1958, at exactly 3.04pm, the plane carrying 43 passengers, including the entire Manchester United squad, manager, coach, journalists, crashed on its third attempt to take off. 23 people were killed in the tragedy, including:

Among the twenty survivors were Matt Busby, the manager, players Johnny Berry, Jackie Blanchflower, Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Harry Gregg, Ken Morgans, Albert Scanlon, Dennis Violett and Ray Wood. The only journalist to survive was Frank Taylor. Photographers Peter Howard and Ted Ellyard survived, as did the flight captain James Thain. Two stewardesses also survived- Rosemary Cheverton and Margaret Bellis.
Passengers
Mrs. Miklos, Mrs. Lukic and her baby daughter all also survived, thanks to the heroic Harry Gregg, who rescued them from the plane.
