| George Best: 1946- 2005 After a long battle with illness, United Legend George Best passed away, on Friday 25th November, 2005. Doctors at Cromwell Hospital did all that they could for Best, however Best's condition had been deteriorating throughout the week. George was admitted to hospital at the beginning of October, with suspected flu, however he took a turn for the worst and his condition developed into multiple organ failure. George seemed to have stablised and was on a general ward only a week before his tragic death, but he worsened again on Tuesday night. In the early hours of Thursday morning, Best began to bleed internally, and doctors could do no more for him. He was given only hours to live, and tragically passed away on Friday afternoon, at 12.55pm. His funeral will be held in his hometown, Belfast, next Friday. His son, Callum Best, described his dad as "a wonderful man", and thanked the doctors "for doing everything they could". George Best is undoubtedly one of the most talented British footballers of all time, and can only be praised for his acheivements during his time at Manchester United. Making his professional debut at only 17, winning the Footballer Of The Year award, and helping United to lift the European Cup in 1968, Best can only be remembered as a kindhearted man, and a United Legend. Rest In Peace George Best, a United legend that will never be forgotten. |
