A Sonnet about Masonry

In halls of ancient and solemn motif,
They gather and join in centuries old craft.
Together in purpose, one in their belief,
Each with tokens for passage, guardians staffed.

Only those enter with Master’s permit,
For guarded are they by another without,
While they in turn their glad tidings transmit,
Secure in knowing they are each others grout.

And yet only in three degrees are held,
The true beauty of the signs and knowledge.
Only through these can someone to them meld,
Earning by trial the right to privilege.

Now amongst brothers, by spectacle awed,
United in faith to almighty G-d.
