INTRODUCTION

HOW TO READ THE RECORD

The organization of this record is to present the ancestors starting with the Immigrant Ancestor and working back chronologically. By numbering Otto Schaap "2" and his wife "3", the father of each person can be found by doubling the number ("4" is therefore the father of Otto Schaap.) The next number, an "odd number" is the mother ("5" is therefore the mother of Otto Schaap.) The descendants are presented in formal outline:

The children of Otto Schaap by capital roman numbers: I, II, III, etc.

The grandchildren of Otto Schaap by capital letter: A, B, C, etc.

The great-grandchildren of Otto Schaap by Arabic numerals: 1,2,3, etc.

The great-great-grandchildren of Otto Schaap by lower case letter: a, b, c, etc. The great-great-great-grandchildren of Otto Schaap by lower case roman numerals: (i), (ii), (iii), etc

Each descendant therefore has his or her own number that can tell where the relationship is to our Immigrant Ancestor. For example, I am IIIC7a---I am the first child of seventh child of third child of the third child of Otto Schaap! My newest grandchild is IIIC7a(iii)bb as she is the second child of my third child.
