| NAME: Zidane Tribal CLASS: Thief, Tantalus Member ORIGIN: Bran Bal, Terra SKILL: Steal/Skill DESCRIPTION: Moving away from brooding heroes like Cloud and Squall, Zidane is the epitome of happy-go-lucky. He's feisty, flirty, and fun to control as the main character. A member of Tantalus, he kidnaps Princess Garnet and would like nothing more than to have a piece of her...er, anyway. Eventually, of course, this leads to the obligatory love story, but it doesn't stop him from hitting on a few other women on the way. Trust me, you'll recognize him especially if you've played FF6---he's Edgar with a tail, practically. |

| NAME: Vivi Ornitier CLASS: Black Mage ORIGIN: Unknown SKILL: Black Magic/Focus DESCRIPTION: First things first. You CANNOT NOT LIKE VIVI. Vivi is one of the most trampled on, knocked over, beat up little things I've seen recently, and he is absolutely KICKASS. A poor little black mage searching for his own past, you'll soon get to liking Vivi. Not to mention feeling sorry for the poor li'l bugger. And also thanking your lucky stars that you have use of his powerful magic. Vivi is an invaluable asset to your side! Did I mention he kicks ass? ^_^ |
| NAME: Princess Garnet "Dagger" Til Alexandros the 17th CLASS: Princess, Summoner ORIGIN: Madain Sari SKILL: Summon Magic/White Magic DESCRIPTION: Garnet, or "Dagger", as she comes to call herself, is...well...just what you'd expect from a character whose title is 'Princess'. Extremely emotional, in love with the main character, rebelling to assert her independence, and trying desperately to 'save her people'. Daughter of the butt-ugly Queen Brahne, she knows something is wrong when her mother starts a war and begins acting oddly. Dagger is trying to get to the source of the problem, but there's only so much she can do on her own. |
| NAME: Adelbert Steiner CLASS: Captain of the Knights of Pluto ORIGIN: Alexandria Castle SKILL: Sword Art/Magic Sword (w/Vivi) DESCRIPTION: Steiner has to be my favorite character in this entire game, aside from Vivi. Think of what would happen if Cyan and Kefka of FF6 had a love child, and you'd have Steiner. He is immensely serious about his mission---to protect Princess Garnet at all costs (which she doesn't make easy for him, by the way) plus he has these hilarious little temper tantrums a la Kefka, jumping up and down in his clanky armor. He trusts Queen Brahne implicitly (although how he could, I don't know) and hates Zidane and all his friends, at least at first. He changes with time, but never wavers from his duty to watch Dagger. |
| NAME: Freya Crescent CLASS: Dragon Knight ORIGIN: Burmecia SKILL: Jump/Dragon DESCRIPTION: Freya is the serious one, 98% of the time. A dragon knight of Burmecia, she is always, always brooding about her tragic past, and her lost lover, Sir Fratley. She left Burmecia a couple years back, but when it gets attacked by Alexandria, she vows to save her homeland. In RPG tradition, this fails miserably, but Freya vows to protect the survivors of Burmecia, including the King, in nearby Cleyra. I bet you can't guess what the outcome of that is....^_~ |
| NAME: Quina Quen CLASS: Qu, Gourmet ORIGIN: Qu's Marsh near Lindblum SKILL: Eat/Blue Magic DESCRIPTION: Quina has to be the most hilarious character in FF9, with the possible exception of Steiner. S/he has one mission, and one mission only! To eat food around the entire world! Yes, that may seem really odd, but so is Quina. S/he is an optional character up to a point, I believe, but it's worth it having him/her/it along for the whole ride. S/he'll really brighten up the mood of the party, although his/her/its use in battle isn't as useful, I'm afraid. |
| NAME: Eiko Carol CLASS: Summoner ORIGIN: Madain Sari SKILL: Summon Magic/White Magic DESCRIPTION: When one figures out that Eiko falls into the same RPG archetype as past characters like Selphie, Yuffie, and Relm, they may run away shrieking. But don't. Eiko, unlike some of those others, is actually fun, and not an annoying brat to have around. She hits on Zidane, and is a generally funny character. Living alone in Madain Sari with a bunch of Moogles, Eiko desperately wants companionship. But...from Zidane? ^^ |
| NAME: Amarant Coral CLASS: Mercenary, Bad-Enough-Dude ORIGIN: Unknown SKILL: Flair DESCRIPTION: The stereotypical "I don't give a rip because I've killed off my emotions" bounty hunter. Amarant, honestly, gets on my nerves a little bit. His "I'm so damned cool" act was old when Shadow was done doing it in FF6. He wants revenge on Zidane for framing him some years ago, making him a wanted man. He works with another bounty hunter, Lani. He finds the fact that Zidane is a helpful and nice person a foreign concept. Amarant pretends to not be able to stand Eiko, but just like Shadow and Relm, he has a secret soft spot for her, it's inferred. (Except Eiko ain't his daughter, thank god...can you imagine her with hair like that? XD) |
